PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE On behalf of Sandpipers, welcome to the 29th Annual Holiday Homes Tour. We are so proud to once again bring holiday cheer to the community with this much loved South Bay tradition. Following a year of cancelled events and shutdowns, we are so excited to be back! This tour is one of our largest fundraisers of the year. Through the generosity of tour ticket holders, community partners and over 200 volunteers, we are able to support Sandpipers’ philanthropic programs right here in the South Bay, which include over 60 local charities and many more individuals in need. We are proud that 100% of our proceeds make this support possible in our local community. Our homes have become our everything this past year, and we are so grateful to the 3 generous homeowners who opened their front doors to welcome us in and to help us give back to the community. We can’t wait to share with all of you the unique, beautifully styled homes, sure to put all in a festive and hopeful spirit. Our Holiday Market & Cafe features over 20 local vendors, who generously donate 25 percent of their sales back to Sandpipers. Please make sure to visit the downtown Manhattan Beach location to enjoy some delicious bites and a little holiday shopping! You can also find smaller cafes at various tour locations, provided by local supporting restaurants and businesses. I am so proud of the entire Holiday Homes Tour team - our associated committees and those in the community who support them. A special thank you to our Director of Holiday Homes Tour, Alex Mandas, our Fundraising VP, Leah Turano, our Sponsorships VP, Gloria Correa, our Marketing VP, Tori Lau, our Director of Public Relations, Caitlin O’Hara, and our Finance VP, Kaylee Torio, who together directed all aspects of this tour with dedication and flexibility. Special thanks to our amazing Holiday Homes Tour Co-Chairs, Jennifer Palmieri and Lisa Ryan, for their guidance and support of 20 plus chairwomen and their committees that have worked tirelessly to make this event a success. Thank you to all of the local business partners who donate time, goods and services to festively stage these homes. And, finally, thank you to all our members who have volunteered during the tour in various capacities - this would not be possible without them. Next weekend, Sandpipers will be celebrating our 90th year for our Holiday Baskets program. This philanthropic event is what started our organization back in 1931, and we are so proud to continue that tradition today. Sandpipers distributes over 100 holiday “baskets” filled with over $800 of essentials and gifts to families in financial need. It is with your generosity that Sandpipers will continue to dedicate its time and resources to serving and supporting our community. I am so grateful to each of you for returning to our Holiday Homes Tour this year. We missed you and welcome back! Wishing you a safe and healthy holiday season,

Nikki Binford Marshall

L.A. ENTERTAINER’S RETREAT 1057 AVENUE B, REDONDO BEACH

Welcome to our contemporary L.A. Entertainer’s Retreat, a modern home infused with a relaxed, vacation vibe. This beautiful 3,300 sq ft home in South Redondo Beach has unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina. It was built in 1963 and completely renovated by its current owners. When they purchased the home in 2004, they envisioned transforming it into a gathering place for friends and family. Visitors are transported into a contemporary tropical retreat with mature palms and natural building materials. Together with C&C Partners and designer Melonee Patterson of Zing Designs, the front of the home was reconstructed in 2018 to celebrate nature and maximize the indoor-outdoor living experience. The pitched roof was cut to preserve the two original palm trees that frame the house. As you pass through the front door, you’re welcomed into an open living space with vinyl wide-plank floors from Republic Flooring. Furnishings are streamlined and minimalist, keeping the outdoor views and natural light the stars of the show. Whether it’s pool, ping pong, or pinball, the family is ready for friendly competition in their gameroom. The home features artwork highlighting the owners’ favorite elements of Los Angeles. From paintings by local artists of LAX and Manhattan Beach to professional sports paraphernalia, their love for the City of Dreams is abundant. An updated stairwell carries the frameless glass and natural wood elements from outside in and invites visitors upstairs to one of the most special elements of this house. Dubbed the “library,” this room has been opened up for entertaining and is now a gathering place 16

for family events. Once the sun sets, the music comes on and the backlit white crystal Puro Caesarstone bar sets the mood by pulsing to the beat. The upstairs also boasts a master bedroom with unobstructed ocean views, a walk-in closet, and full master bath as well as two additional bedrooms and full bathroom. The guest room is where the woman of the house unwinds while rocking out on her Roland electric drum set. The outdoor kitchen is smartly located outside of the interior kitchen, with a passthrough window and large sliding doors. A conversation pit that invites visitors to stay a while! With easy access to the Oceana tiled pool, this is the place to be for Sunday football and all night conversation. No matter what corner of the home you’re experiencing, this home emanates that perfect mix of fun and warmth, which the family dreamed of creating from the day they purchased the property. Interior design is by Zing Designs and florals are by Deep Roots.

SAND VIEW STUNNER 306 25TH STREET, MANHATTAN BEACH

Welcome to our Sand View Stunner! A tri-level modern masterpiece just a few short blocks from the sand on the Walk Streets of Manhattan Beach. Completed in 2018 by architect Michael Lee and Krikorian Construction, this 3,350 square foot home has 3 beds and 4 baths. The homeowners built two connected townhomes on one lot after receiving the inspiration from their realtor, John Altamura. The home’s impressive ocean view deck was built on the roof of the front unit, which was sold upon completion of the build. This property was built to be the family’s forever home, as can be seen through the unique custom elements, relics from the homeowners’ travels and nods to their family history. Entering the home on the street level, you will find a stunning stone entryway–an element that carries throughout the rest of the home. This level holds the garage, foyer and primary bedroom. Moving down to the first level is the family room, which boasts an impressive collection of masks acquired by the homeowners from all around the world throughout 30 years of travel. Additionally, the grandfather clock found in the room was handmade by the owner’s grandfather in 1982. To top off the room’s inviting modernity, the family room has visibility to a stunning wine cellar by Cellar Masters that can host up to 1,032 single bottles, 48 magnums, 4 larger formats and overflow. This level also holds two bedrooms, an office and access to a lovely outdoor patio space. One of the home’s most captivating elements is the third level. With an open floor-plan kitchen and dining area, you can imagine you are cooking en-plein-air as you open the glass doors to a deck highlighting an expansive ocean view. In keeping with the unique 20

elements of the home, the dining room chairs and table pedestals hand-carved in Chiang Mai, Thailand were custom-ordered by the homeowners while visiting a Thai factory on a trip there years ago. Another remarkable feature of this stunning home is the seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, making it the ideal environment for entertaining family and friends. The custom oak hardwood floors by GF Hardwood Floors were stained to match the porcelain tile on the 3rd floor deck, creating a natural synergy between the indoors and out. The home’s impressive art pieces include pieces by travel photographer William Carr, beloved local photographer Bo Bridges and stunning, custom pieces painted by the homeowner. All holiday decor and staging is by Tabula Rasa with florals by Lily Pad Floral Design. Christmas tree, wreath and garland are by Deep Roots Garden Center.

WHAT IS SANDPIPERS? OUR MISSION “Sandpipers is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to serving the needs of the South Bay community through charitable and philanthropic programs.” Since 1931, Sandpipers has been providing assistance to individuals and families in need. For the 2020 - 2021 year, Sandpipers distributed more than $475,000 into the South Bay community. Partnering with over 60 local agencies, our programs give a hand up to individuals and families who have suffered a crisis and are taking the necessary steps to rebuild their lives. Revenues from the Holiday Homes Tour support all our philanthropic programs. The agencies we partner with provide daily support for individuals and families in need by providing the following services: crisis intervention, enrichment services, health services, and support for the mentally and physically disabled and working poor families. A brief look into some of Sandpipers’ Philanthropic Programs: SANDPIPERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Established in 1941, this is the oldest continuing aid program in the South Bay. It provides funding for qualifying students for 4 years of undergraduate studies. For the 2020 -2021 school year, Sandpipers provided more than $288,000 in scholarships to college bound students. EMERGENCY CASEWORK Provides immediate and confidential assistance to members of our community that are referred to us by our partner agencies. This assistance can range from Ralph’s scrip to help with monthly grocery expenses, medical care in the form of payment for dentures or other needed prescriptive items, payment of household rent or purchasing uniforms for school and/ or work. For the 2020 – 2021 year, we distributed a little over $11,600 in emergency assistance to community members in need. BACK-TO-SCHOOL SHOPPING Established in 1999, Back to School Shopping has grown to serve over 70 children. In August, Sandpipers shopped with 75 children, ages 5 – 12, for school clothes, shoes and supplies. Nearly $17,000 worth of clothing and school supplies were purchased for these children. HOLIDAY BASKETS This is our founding program, and it continues to grow year after year. This December we will provide more than 100 “baskets” to local families consisting of a carload full of new toys, new clothes, grocery scrip, shoe gift cards and a myriad of other household necessities like towels, sheets, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and kitchen goods. SUGARPLUM TREE Each year Sandpipers partners with the LA County Department of Children & Family Services to provide approximately 1,500 toys to children in foster care. Through the work of Sandpipers year after year, we perform well over 1,300 hours of community service and touch the lives of more than 26,000 individuals. We provide weekly assistance by delivering meals to domestic violence shelters, participating in Meals on Wheels deliveries, assisting with paperwork at dental clinics, providing snacks for after school programs, and purchasing and delivering undergarments, desserts, milk, and groceries to those in need. 54
