Because of the fragile natural enviroment and special local architecture it is very important how we design the new object and shape the urban space. The project consists of the original cable station building infrastrucutre that develops into a complete architectural solution with added volume and new roof design. Next to it we build appartment houses on the hilltop and wellness underground.

summer house on wooden pillars architecture, ljubljana aĹžman
| design studio 1
The summer house, wedged into the hillside, turns toward lake with its large panoramic windows, while its terrace and pillared volume stretch into the zone of the surrounding fir trees. Proportioned after the tree-trunks, the pillars lift the building’s frontal volume up to the tree’s crown range, hence integrating the house into its natural environment. The tight connection between the building and the landscape wash away the frontiers between being inside and outside.

Music school in the middle of old Portuguese town, surrounded by historical buildings of great importance. The shape and geometry of the new building respects local architecture and is unobtrusively placed in the surroundigs. The open public square acts as a connection between the old and new. Natural light and acoustics were the two main factors that instructed the shape of the building. The front facade acts like an open book, inviting people to come in - it can also be opened up and transform the auditorium into big public open space for open air concerts.

North-south oriented school continues the line of facades of the old city and lets plenty of natural light through south and north facing glass facades. Public square (5) invites people to visit the school and connects the buiding with city life. More private spaces - lesson rooms - are overlooking the green garden (4). The building consists of three parts all connected together - private music rooms (1), public spaces (2) and auditorium (3)

The building is designed as low cost housing for students and young families. On the ground floor there is place for commercial activities such as bar, market, bakery and kindergarden, while on the upper floor there are apartment units. In -1 floor there is a garge for residents and in -2 floor public activities for residents take place - such as small fitness, laundry room, multipurpose hall.

building structure
Around the apartments run an outside corridor, ‘‘common living room’’ for the residents and accessway to the apartments at the same time. Because Castelo Branco gets really hot in the summer, there is the second skin of the building - moveable wooden brise soleil, protecting the outside corridor and glass walls of apartments from hot sun. building block
The shape of my building completes the building island the building closes it’s circumference and connects with other buildings on site. You can acces the green interior of the building island through three passages, two of them piercing the new building.

All apartment units have the same structure. All bedroms face northeast orientation, while bathroom and kitchen is placed in the middle of the apartment because it needs the least amount of natural light of all living spaces. Dining room and living room face southwest orientation, allowing enough natural light in importnat living spaces.
