 SORT If you have clutter and the place looks like a bomb has hit it, this may make you feel anxious and overwhelmed. Over period of time things have been taken out of various rooms around the house and have not been returned to its rightful place. You will need to have a system in place to de-clutter, allocate a place for items, and a workable plan as to how to maintain order. Without a system in place, it will only mean you reverting back to the mess and chaos within days of you de-cluttering your space. So What Can You Do? Begin with the end in mind, set clear intentions as to what you would like to achieve in every single room in your house, cupboard, drawer, shelf, clothes, bags, shoes, paperwork etc. Without this clarity you will just move stuff around and throw nothing. Your intention may be to de-clutter, clear the entire space, move stuff around or move out of that space. Why you got your house, room, car etc in a mess with everything all over the place, only you alone knows. More often than not it is because of something that you perceived to be a tragic episode in your life, and knocked the stuffing out of you and you began to neglect yourself and your surroundings. Your house is your sanctuary and if you do not have time to look after it—it means you are not fully present in your mind to deal with the situation. Are you ready to take charge and control of your life? Are you ready to de-clutter? Can you part with stuff you love? Do you understand that your clutter is sabotaging your future and is a state of the workings of your mind? Understand this: You cannot change what you tolerate! Clearing Your House ... Bathroom | Toilet | Kitchen | Dining Room | Bedroom 1 | Bedroom 2 | Bedroom 3 | Bedroom 4 | Conservatory | Garden | Hallway | Front Garden | Back Garden | Under the Stairs Have all the boxes for each room in your house, plus those boxes that are labelled Friends, Charity, Sell or Throw Away  Life Assignment No. 1   

Get magazines and study and take notes on how to organise and containerise your stuff Go to IKEA, department stores, hotels and look around to get some inspiration Find books on organising your space to inspire and motivate you

 Life Assignment No. 2    

Write down what is your intention when de-cluttering your space? How much time will you give yourself to de-clutter the house 1-week? 4 weeks? What do you want the final outcome to be on finishing the de-cluttering process Decide which room you will start with. Sometimes the bathroom is the easiest to start with.

You will need: Felt Pen  Paper  Label dots  Post IT Notes  Sellotape  Boxes  Bin Bags

 Life Assignment No. 4 Now that you have chosen a room. Do a stock-take what needs to be thrown away, what needs to stay and what needs to be repurposed, or given away or perhaps sold. So first go into the room and assess what you have in the room. Then make a mental note of where each item will need to go. For example each room should have its box/bag to store things in, then items to be sold, given away to a friends and things for charity should each have its own label and a box/bag. Then sort into piles and begin to put things into the appropriated labelled bag or box. For example if there are loads of clothes strewn around the room, first gather them into one place then put them in bags to contain them. Then open one bag at a time. Look in the bag and decide what you will do with each item. The suggestion is if any garments have the following issues then these need to be thrown them out:               

Broken Chipped Duplicates Torn Scratched Missing pieces Old and worn Other people‘s property Clothes and shoes that do not fit Items that you could sell Items to give away Damaged or with holes in Out of date Sitting there gathering dust and are not being used Items that are old and no longer resonate with you

 TIP ... Do one drawer at a time, do one section at a time, do one shelf at a time, do one room at a time until you finish. Get everything off the floor and sort them into the appropriate bags/boxes, and then open up and deal with one bag/box at a time. Do the same for shelves, boxes cupboards and drawers. Have all the boxes for each room in your house, plus those boxes that are labelled Friends, Charity, Sell or Throw Away, nearby so you can sort things out properly. For example, in the bathroom there is a book that belongs in the Master bedroom then you would put it in the box marked Master Bedroom. All empty bottles and finished toilet rolls will then be put in the rubbish box/bag.

 GUIDELINES FOR PURGING The hardest thing that you will have to do is part with items that have sentimental value. However, you have to be tough and get rid of things that no longer serve you. Have the courage to CHUCK AWAY items that are: Broken  Chipped  Duplicates  Torn  Scratched  Doesn‘t work  Missing pieces  Old and worn  Other people‘s property  Clothes and shoes that do not fit  Items that you could sell  Items to give away  Empty bottles, cartons, boxes, containers  Invalid  Damaged or with holes in  Out of date  Sitting there gathering dust and are not being used  Faulty equipment  Items that are old and no longer resonate with you To keep such items means that you are operating from a lack mentality, and neither abundance and prosperity can fully enter into your life, because you will not let go off all those things that no longer serve you.  Life Assignment No. 5  

Get boxes/bags to put those items that are to be thrown out especially those that are things of your past. Once you have sorted things and put them in their designated bags/boxes, remove all items that do not belong in the room that you are working in.

You must be willing to move on—throwing away items will prove that you are willing to start again. Once you have purged make sure to put the items out as soon as possible, before you change your mind.

 ALLOCATE A SUITABLE PLACE FOR YOUR ITEMS TO GO After sorting through everything and then discarding those items that no longer serve you, what is left now needs to be put away into their chosen rooms and spaces.  Are You Sitting On A Goldmine? After sorting through you may find that after having done a stock-take that the items you have in your room/house are worth something. Perhaps if your funds are low, this might be a good time to consider selling certain items on a variety of social media platforms or even on Gumtree or Loot.  Life Assignment No. 6 .  Jot down ideas on the designated places and zones for each room for your clothes, shoes, books, CDs, papers, food items etc.  Rearrange the room to accommodate new pieces of furniture or containers  Life Assignment No. 7  Now that you have sorted everything into neat piles eg. clothes, shoes, books, underwear, CDs, papers, food items, equipment now begin to put things near the designated places.

 CONTAINERISE YOUR ITEMS Things will stay a lot tidier if you contain them. Pens always are easier to manage when there are in a container, the same as books when they are on a book shelf, or in a drawer. So the best thing to do is  Look at books and magazines to decide what you will put items in to keep things tidy  Check out the £1 shops as they have a variety of storage solutions  Decide which items need to be containerised  Check out IKEA for storage solutions for every room in the house  Purchase your containers  Begin to put things in their relevant containers.  Put things away in their designated places in drawers, cupboards, book shelves and do not stop until you have finished the room after that go on and de-clutter the other rooms

 EQUALISE Hidden in your daily routine are the ingredients to success and failure. To keep things tidy takes skill it means you have to be conscious of putting things back after use. Scriptures say ― he/she that is able to manage little will be able to manage much‖. Dr John DeMartini says ―how we do one thing is how we do everything‖. It has also been said that ―cleanliness is next to Godliness‖. De-cluttering your house means also keeping surfaces clean and if you have animals you will have to work even harder to get rid of foul smells as a result of them urinating on your carpets and furniture. If you are a hoarder, de-cluttering will be like a mammoth task to accomplish. This is why before you start de-cluttering you must decide what your real intention is and what you want to achieve. But when de-cluttering it is always better to do it because you want to change the way you live and want life-long results where you embrace this new-found behaviour daily. In order to make lasting change, you have to change your thoughts and change your self-image and become a person that has zero tolerance for clutter. When you have worked so hard to de-clutter what tends to happen is people go back to their old ways of doing things. Wrappers and disposable coffee cups, sugar wrappers left in cars is a big indicator of people doing the same in their homes. Your home is your Sanctuary it is a place to rest, relax and chill—when there is clutter it means there is dead and trapped energy that is sucking the life out of it‘s occupants, where they are constantly feeling stressed and tired. To sit in mess says a lot about the people sitting in it—as if they feel powerless to change their situation. God made man to be in charge of his environment, not the other way round. Take charge of your environment and once you can do that you can take charge of your life. Every day make an effort to put things back in place. Make it a standard that each night before leaving you tidy up. Is it not nice to return home where you do not have to fix this thing over here and that thing over there? Go through each room and set a standard to keep it tidy and at the end of each day to put things back in place. Give yourself 21 days to develop the habit of putting things back once you have used them. You can do it! Good Luck !
