Jordan Bolton Jordan Boston is an artist based in Manchester, England. He creates photographic posters by constructing and analysing sets with props which can be found in certain movies. According to Visi magazine each poster takes around two weeks. The first week is spent on analysing the movie and looking for objects. The second week is spent on designing the background and figuring out the design. He is mostly inspired by films and comic books. Similarly, the creative artists Roy Andersson and Chris Ware are his big influencers. This is because they place a lot of importance on detail and precision. This poster has been created for the novel and movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. This movie was released in 1961 and is a combination of drama and melodrama. I like this poster because it appears symmetrical. If the poster was to be cut in half then most of the items on each side would match. An example of this would be the high heels which can be found in the left bottom and in the right bottom. Similarly, I like this poster because it holds a lot of detail. It seems as though a lot of hard work and precision has gone into designing this piece. An example of this would be nail varnish or a hair band. When it comes to the colour scheme I believe it has been kept minimalistic in order to suit the genre and tone of the movie. However, there are certain elements which tie in together such as blue props and the blue background. When it comes to staging of objects in this poster I like the fact that bigger props are displayed in the corners. This makes the poster appear fuller and at the same time this brings more attention to the middle. This is because the bigger objects are easier to establish. I favour the fact that this poster looks and is handmade. This contrasts with our modern society today because many posters are designed and created digitally. An example of this would be for Finding Dory. I’d like to use Jordan Bolton’s idea as inspiration for my own poster. I think a handmade poster would go well with my lyrics video. This is because my music video contains a lot of elements which are handmade. Although this will be a time consuming task I believe that it is worth it.
This poster has been inspired by “The Grand Budapest Hotel”. I like this photogenic poster because of its colour scheme. I think that this colour scheme is very delicate and subtle. This is because the colour pink is usually associated with femininity and comfort. This poster does not hold symmetry like the one from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” however there are still a lot repeated elements to it. An example of this would be white, black or burgundy glasses. The objects appear really well thought out and they hold a lot of space between one another. I think it’s important that the poster isn’t overly cluttered because then the props would be very hard to recognise.
This photogenic poster has been inspired by the movie called “Amelie”. This movie was released in 2001 and is a combination of romance and comedy. I like this visual poster because of its layout. Contrasting to other posters which I have analysed this one is more organised. This is because the objects have been places against the focal point which is the middle. Similarly, the props have been displayed symmetrically which again adds more precision and detail to Bakers work. This piece is a lot more colourful than the other posters which I have analysed however I think this is because the objects found in the movie “Amelie” are too. I also like the fact that the biggest props are placed outside and they get smaller as they reach the middle. This technique immediately draws the eye to the middle.
