SUCCESSFUL IMAGES There are a few potential front cover images, from my photoshoot. I have complied this sheet to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each image, this will ultimately help me to conclude which will be the most appropriate to use of my music magazine front cover. These four images are the only potential images from my photoshoot.

I think the background of this photo is very impressive. The contrasting and bright colours make everything look young and stand out which is the look I’m going for. Although from my primary research I have conducted, the target audience have mostly chosen pastel colours as their favourite, I think bright colours are very infectious and likeable. The model adds to this idea because of her slouched and relaxed posture, this makes her look rather approachable, as does her smile. I feel as if the clothes we both chose were perfect, the black highlighted her silhouette against the dynamic colours which made her stand out. Her slight hair curls and hairstyle looked very natural. I think nature is the beauty and simplicity in photos because it allows the reader to relate at a similar level. The only problem I have with this photo is that for a masthead and coverlines to stand out I would have to choose a unique colour or even shadows, box around them.

This is one of my favourite photos I have taken at the photoshoot. I like it because of the impressive background I have mentioned above. This photo is a medium close up shot, which would allow me to follow the typical conventions of a magazine as well as allow the reader to be more personal with the artist. The use of a direct gaze is very important in a music magazine because it lets the reader create a connection with the artist and to engage with them, especially if it’s someone they haven’t come across before like a new and upcoming celebrity. The models facial complexity creates an upbeat atmosphere, which would react well with the audience. To make this photo better I would edit her clothes to appear them to be less scruffy, clean the wall up to make it look smoother to the eye. In terms of a front cover, I think this image would be very successful as it has a lot of space for all conventions. As mentioned above, the only issue is that I would have to make the coverlines/masthead standout somehow.

I’m not sure whether this photo would be effective enough for a magazine front cover. Although I like the colours of the background and I believe they look very vibrant and touching, it looks slightly dirty and there are various plants around the model which would take a long time to edit or crop out. The use of an alternative pose was very fun to shoot and it would be a very interesting take on a front cover however a part of me thinks she looks too posed and at the same time more amateur. I want my magazine to look professional and to be presented in a respectful manner, fulfilling the codes and conventions. Also, the models whole face is not visible which makes her expression look less confident and strong which is the look I’m aiming for. Because of the weather, many of the photos I took were blurry or dimmed which we can see in this photo.

This photo is technically good enough to use as a magazine front cover, as the codes and conventions have been fulfilled, however I don’t think it would work well for my magazine. Although, the angle of this picture is very interesting and unusual I don’t think it works in favour of the model. The lighting creates a lot of shadows and marks on her clothing as well as body which look unflattering. The background behind her looks out of focus, it makes me feel as if the background was there by mistake and not by choice. There is not enough space around the model to comfortably fit a masthead or coverlines. This causes an issue as there’s no simple way of re-constructing a photo.
