2022 COACHING STAFF Leading the baseball program at San Jacinto College is more than just a job for Tom Arrington. The way he sees it, he is responsible for helping players continue their development and extend their playing career.
So far, so good for Arrington, who took over the San Jac program before the 2001 season. Since then, the College has made 13 trips to the National Junior College Athletic Association JUCO World Series, including six appearances in the national title game, culminating as the national runner-up in 2003, 2004, 2010, 2012, 2016, and 2017. His 40 wins at the JUCO World Series is an all-time record, as is his 64 total games at the prestigious national tournament. Arrington adds “Hall of Fame” to his signature, as the veteran coach entered the NJCAA Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018. The San Jac baseball team ended the 2021 season third at the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. San Jac finished the season 51-15 overall after winning the Region XIV tournament. Another season highlight was the MLB draft of three Gators: Mason Auer, Hunter Hollan, and Brandon Birdsell. Auer was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the fifth round. Arrington led the Gators to a 21-6 season in 2020 and 11-0 in the conference before the College and NJCAA canceled the season because of COVID-19. In 2019, Arrington guided the Gators to a 42-12 season record. Though the Gators dominated their conference opponents, they did not continue post-season because of NJCAA sanctions. The Gators had a great season, however, highlighted by the MLB draft of Jackson Rutledge in the first round by the Washington Nationals.
The Gators made it to the semifinals of the JUCO World Series in 2018 and finished 3-2 at the national tournament. Seven players were selected in the MLB draft, and San Jac went 52-15. Arrington was named Region XIV Coach of the Year, and 13 players earned Region XIV South all-conference honors. In 2017, Arrington led his team to Grand Junction, ending as national runner-up. His squad finished the season 4818 overall and was the Region XIV tournament champion. Five players earned JUCO World Series all-tournament honors, and six players were drafted in the MLB first-year player draft.

Head Coach
Arrington and his staff have helped more than 200 players find homes at collegiate institutions and more than 90 at the professional level. For him, it’s all part of being the team’s leader.

2022 COACHING STAFF “They are getting a quality education while continuing to develop and showcase their skills to a point where they either move on to the Division I Level on scholarship or sign professional contracts,” Arrington said. Arrington began his coaching career in 1991 at the College of Mateo. Later came stops at San Francisco State University and College of Marin. In 2000, he became San Jac’s assistant coach, focusing on the pitchers. Nearly two seasons later, he was named head coach and in spring 2011 the athletic director for the North Campus.
Arrington played professionally for the Triple A team of the Texas Rangers, the Salt Lake Trappers, and the Single A farm team of the Montreal Expos. The Mill Valley, California native began his playing career at College of Marin, where he was an all-conference selection. He then played two years at Texas A&M University, where he earned two letters and was all-conference and the Southwest Conference tournament MVP. He also earned the C.E. “Pat” Olsen MVP award. He holds a master’s degree from San Francisco State University. Arrington and his wife, Marya, have two children, Alden and Anya Lily.

A standout college pitcher and successful 8th Season college coach, Weaver Texas State University (2008) brought many talents and strengths to the San Jac baseball team. “Since Eric joined the program, we have made five trips to the JUCO World Series,” Head Coach Tom Arrington said. “Eric works closely with Kory Koehler to recruit prospective players within the state and region. He has a strong contact base of local high school coaches, professional scouts, and player agents to draw upon in the search process. He also helps develop and plan the pitching staff.” Besides coaching the team, Weaver also serves as academic coordinator of North Campus student-athletes. He assesses each student-athlete’s course load, prepares class schedules, and coordinates smooth transfer to NJCAA and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics institutions. Weaver graduated from Deer Park High School in 2003, where he was a two-sport standout, earning all-district honors in baseball and football. He went on to be a starting pitcher at Alvin Community College and was voted to the Texas/New Mexico JUCO All-Star game after his freshman year. He was the team’s MVP in 2006, earning all-conference recognition. Weaver continued his baseball and academic career at Texas State University, where he ranked as the fifth most effective pitcher in the Southland Conference in 2007, posting a 6-1 record in 30 appearances. That season, Weaver had five saves with a 2.23 ERA, allowing 33 hits and seven walks, with 33 strikeouts and a .212 opponents’ batting average.

2022 COACHING STAFF A former catcher at San Jacinto College (1999-2000), Kory Koehler is now entering his 23rd season with the team. As a player, Koehler was fortunate to play in two JUCO World Series, and during his time as a volunteer assistant coach, the team has made 14 trips to Grand Junction. Assistant Coach Koehler appreciates 23nd Season the success he’s been University of Houston (2006) a part of as a coach. Winning consistently involves having talented players and crafted coaches, but Koehler has seen San Jac go the extra step.
Kory Koehler
“For me, each year is a new start,” Koehler said. “This is my alma mater, and it means the world to me to continue to be a part of such a wonderful program. I look forward to another fantastic run in 2022, and I believe this year’s team has as good a chance as any to bring that elusive sixth national championship back to San Jac. I would love to see our young men get to experience that moment after winning the final game of the season in Grand Junction, Colorado. That is something we work hard for and we look forward to each year. I hope one day to experience that with Head Coach Tom Arrington, fellow coaches and staff, and most importantly our student-athletes.” Originally from North Bay, New York, Koehler graduated from the University of Houston in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science and in 2008 with a Master of Education in physical education. In summer 2015, he led the Houston Collegiate League Gators to a league championship. Koehler was elected the 2019 American Coaches Association national assistant coach of the year and was the first to win this award in junior college baseball. “Kory is an outstanding coach and an even better person who has a deep-seated passion for the development of players and for the success of the San Jac baseball program,” Arrington said. “He possesses

a tireless commitment toward our baseball program and the pursuit of a national championship. Throughout our friendship and work together at San Jac, Kory has continued to take on additional responsibilities. While he is in charge of recruiting, hitting and offensive planning, and development of the team, he has also done a tremendous job in our community outreach.” In summer 2021, Koehler managed the Charlottesville Tom Sox in the prestigious Valley League in Virginia. He guided the Tom Sox to a 30-10 record in the 2021 regular season and was named the Maynard “Mo” Weber Manager of the Year. He was also selected to manage the South All-Stars in the Valley League All-Star game. In addition to his duties with the baseball team, Koehler is the physical education lead faculty on the North Campus. He and his wife, Erika, have two sons, Keaton Jax and Kason Jett.
Woody Williams may be in his seventh season as a volunteer assistant coach with the San Jacinto College baseball program, but he is no stranger to the game of baseball. Williams played at Wharton County Junior College, Alvin Community College, and the University of Houston, before a professional career that Assistant Coach 7th Season spanned 20 seasons University of Phoenix (2020) with the Toronto Blue Alvin Community College (1986) Jays, San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals, and Houston Astros. His experience and knowledge are assets to the San Jac baseball program.
woody williams
Before joining San Jac in fall 2015, Williams coached three years at Fort Bend Christian Academy and spent two seasons with the Houston Heat. “I am very excited to be here and be a part of this team,” Williams said. “I enjoy being around the players and helping them to grow as young men and baseball players. My coaching philosophy has always been to play the game in the right way with respect and integrity, and I hope I can show these players how to do that.”
2022 COACHING STAFF Williams made his major league debut on May 14, 1993, for the Blue Jays. He began his pitching career in the majors as a reliever but was moved to a full-time starter in 1997. His career blossomed after he was traded to St. Louis in August 2001, where he went 7-1 with a 2.28 ERA in 11 starts for the Cardinals. He went on to be named to the 2003 All-Star team and pitched in the playoffs. The righthander says his most memorable moment was pitching in the playoffs in 2001. However, he says coaching is more satisfying because of the opportunity to see kids grow into young men. His message to those wanting to play collegiately and professionally is “You have to be coachable, willing to learn, and do whatever it takes to become the best in your craft.” “I am honored and blessed to have Woody coaching alongside me,” said Head Coach Tom Arrington. “We have known each other for years, but working together has been extremely rewarding to me not only from a coaching perspective but from a personal one as well. Woody is extremely knowledgeable, as is evidenced in his playing experience, but more importantly he delivers this knowledge to the players in a way they can understand and use in their development. Though Woody’s primary responsibility is developing the pitchers, his input in all areas of the team is welcomed.” Williams and his wife, Kim, reside in Houston. They have five children -- Katelyn, Sarah, Hannah, Lily, and Caden -- and two grandchildren.
James Kirk is in his fifth season with the San Jacinto College baseball coaching staff. Before joining the San Jac program, he was a volunteer assistant coach at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, where he coached infielders and outfielders. In 2017, Navarro College was the runnerup in conference, Assistant Coach advanced to the 5th Season regional tournament, and advanced to the championship game, where the Bulldogs finished as runner-up to San Jacinto College. Kirk works with infielders and outfielders on defensive approach.
james kirk
“Coach Kirk brings a wealth of knowledge to the program,” Head Coach Tom Arrington said. “He has coached several MLB players in his time at St. Pius X, and his son was a tremendous player at both Navarro College and later at Arkansas Little Rock. Also, Coach Kirk served as a police officer for more than 30 years. His passion for young men doing the right thing all the time will help groom our players into great citizens moving forward.” Kirk has held coaching positions at St. Pius X High School, which won two state championships and three district championships during his time there. He has coached and developed numerous players who have played JUCO and Division I, II, and III baseball. Kirk and his wife, Wanda, have two children, Jessica and Kyle.
