SITE_GULSHAN 2 CIRCLE, DHAKA, BANGLADESH ZONING CATEGORIES_MIXED USED, RECREATIONAL AND RESIDENTIAL ZONES
The chosen site is located in the capital city of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The node is a very busy mixed used node where the adjacent plots surrounding the roundabout and the central streets intersecting each other are developed as mixed used zones with some commercial office buildings and shopping outlets and restaurants. The second layer after this mixed used zone is consisting of residential zones with few recreational zones intermingled to it. The connecting road network of the entire area has traffic congestions based on their centrality and accessibility from the surrounding areas.
AXIAL ANALYSIS (GLOBAL_INTEGRATION HH):
The global axial analysis refers to the number of integration of each street to its adjacent streets. The higher the value of a street is the higher it is integrated to its surrounding immediate streets and the lower the value of a line is, the least it is connected to its surrounding streets. The important factor here is that all the analysis is run in the context of the global connectivity of each street which means the context of the entire city. The number of lines intersected by a particular line which is their value of connectivity is then expressed by color coding. The gradient starts from the color red which means the highest connected street and then descends starting from yellow to lighter blue to darker blue depending upon the lower value of their connectivity in the global context.
AXIAL ANALYSIS (LOCAL_INTEGRATION HH R3):
The local axial analysis refers to the similar format of analysis performed before as global axial analysis which is simulating the integration value of each street depending upon their color where the difference is that the context is more of a local scale. So in this case of radius 3, the analysis means that how well connected is each street within 3 consecutive turns. The color coding demarks the same result which is red for the highest number of integration and then according to lower integration value it changes from yellow to blue. AXIAL ANALYSIS (LOCAL_INTEGRATION HH R5):
The axial analysis at a local scale for radius 5 means the number of accessible streets from each street within five turns. In this particular case, the color red demarks the street that has highest integration value in the sense that if you take 5 turns from different intersection points of this particular street, you can access to highest number of streets whereas if you consider any street in blue, the number of accessible streets within 5 turns from that street will be very low which corresponds to its integration value. FINDINGS: Global axial integration_ The interesting finding after running the simulation is this case is that the main street demarked by the software is one of the most integrated ones in the intersection where there are three other main streets which is not read by the software. Considering the understanding of the street network according to my perception as a user of that space leads me to the conclusion that the software is showing such result because of the area I chose to analyze. If I took a larger version including more surrounding area then the result might vary and show something close to reality.
AXIAL STEP DEPTH ANALYSIS:
The step depth analysis shows the result of how many turns away are any street from a selected street line from where the calculation has been performed. In this particular case, the pale yellow line selected as the base line with a value of 0 or a depth of 0 is the street from where it starts calculating how many turns away are other street lines. In this case, the color coding is a little different where the dark blue lines has the lowest depth value of 1, which means, they are 1 turn away from the base line. The number ascends starting from blue to green to yellow to red which denotes the ascending number of depth value showing the higher number of turns to be made to travel from the base line to any particular colored street. SEGMENT ANGULAR ANALYSIS (GLOBAL):
The angular analysis talks about the streets that are connected to its adjacent ones in terms of their cumulative results of angular deviation. In this case where it is calculating the angular deviation in a global scale, the central streets get the highest cumulative value which is demarked with the color red. It shows that these streets have the highest potential of connections in terms of summation of angular deviations of its connecting streets in a city scale.
SEGMENT ANGULAR ANALYSIS (LOCAL R3):
The angular analysis at a local scale of radius 3 analyses the summation of angular deviations of the connecting streets of a particular street line within the limit of three turns. In this case, the central lines have lower values demarked by the color red which means that their sum value of connecting streets within radius three is lower and it increases with the changing color from yellow to blue.
SEGMENT STEP DEPTH ANALYSIS (ANGULAR):
The angular step depth analyses the cumulative angular values (of all possible connections of the connecting lines) of the connecting lines of a particular street. The selected street line therefore is weighted by 0 and the immediate connections of that segment, based on their angular connections get the cumulative value representing how many sub connections it has got with its surrounding streets. In this case, the dark blue lines have the lower values compared to the lighter ones and it ascends following the color changes and thus the highest in this case is for the yellow colored lines.
SEGMENT STEP DEPTH ANALYSIS (TOPOLOGICAL):
The topological step depth analysis depicts the value of direction changes of connecting streets of a particular selected segment of a street. In this particular case, the base line selected in the color pale yellow has the value of 0 and then based on the number of turns, the immediate adjacent dark blue connecting street line has the value of 1 and it ascends as the number of turns of the streets increase which is marked by colors from green to yellow to red based on their increasing values.
SEGMENT STEP DEPTH ANALYSIS (METRIC):
The metric step depth analysis illustrates the metric values of each street. It means the distance from the selected segment of any street. In this case, the selected street in pale yellow thus got the value of 0 and it changes with the colors gradient from blue to red in an ascending order demarking their distance from the selected street.
