HALLOWEEN CANDY WINE PAIRING Pair

SEASON Halloween Candy Wine Pairing

WHAT TO DRINK WITH THAT STOLEN SNICKERS BAR

BY NORA HESTON TARTE

As parents, I’m willing to bet that most of us sneak samples from our kids’ pillow cases after a night of scouring the neighborhood for free candy. Perhaps, we aren’t even sly about it. In our house, it’s called the parent tax, and the kids have to hand over a few pieces of our favorites from their loot as a thank you for chaperoning them around the neighborhood. Regardless of how you got your hands on those leftover candies, we’re here to solve the real problem: what should you sip with your acquired goods?

CANDY CORN & CHARDONNAY

Save us the debate. If you like candy corn, the buttery texture of the candy will go well with a buttery chardonnay.

REESE’S & MERLOT

Look for something tannic to stand up to the fatty quality of this sweet and salty candy.

SNICKERS & CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Let a big cabernet stand up to those flavors of chocolate, peanuts, caramel, and nougat.

HERSHEY’S BAR & ZINFANDEL

The smoothness of the chocolate will emphasize the fruity components of the wine.

KIT KAT & PINOT NOIR

Whether you’ve got the milk chocolate or the white chocolate variety, this waferbased candy is light and takes on the plum and cherry flavors found in Pinot Noir.

MILKY WAY & BUBBLES

Sparkling white wines like the lightness of this caramelbased candy. SOUR CANDIES WITH SAUVIGNON BLANC

The intense acidity of a sauv blanc paired with its fruitforward flavors of citrus will offer good balance to many types of sour candy.

STARBURST & MOSCATO

A sweet wine is a good pairing for these slightly tart candies.

SKITTLES & SPARKLING ROSÉ

These bite-size pieces of fruity goodness offer hard shells and chewy centers that will pop next to an effervescent wine.

YORK PEPPERMINT PATTIES & A BOLD RED BLEND

Dark chocolate pairs well with big, bold reds. Choose something with a touch of spice to complement the cooling peppermint center.

CARAMEL M&MS & PINOT NOIR

The light caramel pairs well with a light red, especially if you serve it ever-so-slightly chilled. This holds true for any caramel-based candy.
