concept note Our thought process behind combining the genius of two notable geniuses in the fashion industry in India, Photographer, Colston Julian & Stylist Ayesha Amin Nigam.

In a world filled with entropy, there are very few people with the capability to withstand or let alone embrace the madness. Colston Julian stands as a noted Indian photographer who is heavily inspired with urban landscape & lifestyles finding beauty within chaotic spaces. Simple yet powerful, shaky yet crystal clear; heavily edited yet so natural. Pulling an opposite black and white into a medium ground, grey: this is the signature style of the marvel that is Julian. The distortion brings the eye to

love the grotesque. On the other hand, we have Ayesha Amin Nigam, bringing together opposites in a more colourful aspect. A crimson and a vermillion, elegance and extravagance. Ornate, yet simplistic. Loud and pleasing. Uniting personality and poise. This styling project aims to combine two very similar yet obverse styles into what we termed ‘Rouhii’, Arabic for the soul. French general, Marshal Frederich Foch once very rightly said during World War II, “The most

powerful force on earth is the human soul on fire.” We aim to represent this fire in its most naked form; defenseless, merciless and left with nothing to lose. The warping depicts the damage; jewellery, the ability to put on a smiling facade through pain though everything around the soul tears into bits and pieces. A rustic twist to a modern gipsy, the romance between polarities. Rouhii is an editorial curated to make every viewer feel emotions that find refuge in only their own bodies.

exotica Eclectic, colourful, crazy...This modern gipsy’s style is every bit as exciting as her travels through the markets of Hyderabad.

From the narrow, yet seductive streets of old Hyderabad, come the untold stories of the glorious Nizams and their heritage. A total of 7 Nizams ruled Hyderabad for two centuries until 1947. The rulers were great patrons of literature, art, architecture and rich food; remenants of which still lurk throughout the city in the most unexpected of bylanes. As we walk through the perfect profusion of Islamic and Hindu philosophies with Dolly Ghoshal, she walks with pride.

She tells us about the city in its prime, its rich culture and the nooks and crannies where we can find the best costume jewellery, perfumes, lac bangles and of course, the yummiest of biryanis! Through the bustling markets, where you can find anything from spices, clothes and cheap bangles to high quality silver filigree jewellery and exquisite bidriware, we made our way to the four minarets, or Charminarthe grand arch and mosque

that is the central artery of Hyderabad. We then took a fifteen minute rickshaw ride to Koti Sultan Bazaar, one of the oldest shopping destination in the city, a place where one can find the best silver junk jewellery, worth a visit for a shopping spree. Our unending talks about the brilliance around us was interrupted by the call to prayer blaring from a mosque near us. It was dusk, and the lights of the old city glowed in the pink sky.
