Horseback Riding Lessons

In the first few lessons, riders will have the opportunity to interact with their horses on the ground. You’ll learn the basics of grooming/ tacking, and learn to ride in a structured and fun environment. Become a confident, safe rider and handler of horses under the professional training of Madonna Bynum. All riding levels are welcome.

Beginner Horseback Made Easy - Trail Riding

Learn to ride trail horses in an easy‑going environment and gain fitness benefits. Located 15 minutes east of the Gainesville Regional Airport, the 5K Horse Ranch is your destination for western style pleasure riding. Classes start in the arena, and if riders develop in their skills, they can graduate to the simulated trails on the ranch. This class is for beginners, so no previous experience or knowledge is needed and facility horses provided.

Beginning Wire Wrap Pendant

While creating your unique pendant, learn to determine how much wire you will need, basic wrapping techniques, how to create a bail and simple embellishment. Students can bring a cabochon of their own to wrap or may purchase one in class. Class taught by instructor from the Gainesville Gem and Mineral Society in conjunction with The Tech Toybox.

Participants in this 6 part series will explore the oral tradition of storytelling while learning the art of basket making. The Hippodrome Theatre is proud to unveil this unique series. Class participants will work with seasoned storyteller and comedian Daniel Perea to harness their natural storytelling abilities while learning the art of Appalachian potato basket weaving with visual artist Justine Henry. The series will culminate in a performance of the storyteller’s tales as well as a potato basket of their making.

On this kayak/canoe tour of Cross Creek and portions of Orange and Lochloosa Lakes, we’ll explore the wild realm made famous by Pulitzer Prize winning Author, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. The charming creek, beautiful lake vistas and abundant wildlife remain little changed since the early to mid 1900’s, when Rawlings lived here and wrote such Florida classics as The Yearling and Cross Creek. You may drop a class and receive a full refund by calling the Community Education office DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION TERM for any class 2 weeks or longer in length. For shorter classes, you must drop the class at least 2 business days before the class begins to receive a refund. After that, you must fill out a petition for refund. See website for refund policies. You will receive a refund check in the mail in approximately 3—4 weeks. Your credit card account will NOT be credited for the amount.
