Counselor In Training (CIT) is a work-oriented, leadership program which gives teens an opportunity to assist College For Kids instructors during the CFK summer camp. CITs must be available to attend mandatory training from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. on June 7. CITs receive leadership training and earn 80 service hours. Eligibility requirements: Potential CITs will be between the ages of 15-18 and/or rising 10th-12th grade students. Tuition: $90 per two week camp session | Applications are due by May 11. Obstacle Training For Horses
Have you always wanted a chance to teach your horse how to maneuver obstacles? Learn how to turn a slice of rock into a cabochon suitable for use in jewelry. This beginning class will teach you to trim, grind and polish stone on a variety of lapidary equipment, creating a flat-backed, domed cab. The flute is another instrument used in sound therapy, for meditation, for relaxation, and simple enjoyment. There are many stories of how the flute came to be, which we will discuss. Through this six-week intensive theatre class, participants will explore the nuance of relating human behavior to the craft of a theatre artist. The initial classes will be facilitated by staff of The River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding, whose mission is to enrich lives and promote the best practices and principles of self-exploration. The remaining classes will utilize these introspective discoveries with a focus on character development, scene construction and writing. Each individual will create and write a monologue that reflects the experiences accumulated throughout the course; the class will culminate with a showcase of student monologues.

Lights At Night Paddle
Enjoy the beauty of a Nature Coast sunset and the rising moon from your kayak. It is leisurely, covering a shorter distance than our other tours. After dark, watch for bioluminescence in the water. With every paddle stroke, you may stir up a swirling galaxy of tiny glowing creatures. Maybe you’ll even see dolphins in the moonlight. Participants must be comfortable paddling in the dark and supply their own flashlights.

Lore And History: The Silver River *
This will be a slow-poking exploration, geared toward inquisitive paddlers who are more interested in learning wild lore than covering distance. Unlike our other paddle tour/classes, this one will only cover a couple of miles in total, allowing time to drift, observe and learn about the river’s plants, animals, archaeology, history and other wild lore.

Kayaking Shell Mound
With recent archaeological research at this iconic site, new information has come to light regarding the early inhabitants of this coastal region. We’ll discuss the new discoveries including ceremonies and relationships with other sites while kayaking through the estuary of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge. On this 2-3 mile walk-and-talk, author Lars Andersen (Paynes Prairie, A History and Guide. Pineapple Press. 2001 and ‘04) describes 12,000 years of human history on Paynes Prairie, and the fascinating lore of some of the Prairie’s plant and animal species.

Naturalist 101
In this class, the participant will learn about local flora and fauna by visiting a new State Forest. Along the trail, we’ll look at flowering plants and study any signs left behind by the animals that live in the diverse habitats we’ll be exploring. We’ll have the opportunity to observe birds, mammals and reptiles. Field guides provided for sharing during the walk. This is a leisurely walk on uneven terrain lasting approximately two hours.

Wild Lore Of The Ocklawaha *
On this kayak/canoe trip we’ll explore the fascinating and often quirky lore of some plants and animals growing along this wild, scenic river. Today, the river is a world of egrets, herons, gators and other wildlings, but an Indian mound and a steamboat landing - both of which we’ll visit - attest to a colorful human history. Good for beginners, lessons included.

Introducing students to the game of bridge, starting with fundamentals assuming no previous knowledge of playing cards. Teaching the 2 over 1 bidding system which is standard in North America. Starting with basic card play technique, and touching up on some advanced topics like end-plays and squeezes.
Wonder what the real scoop is with drones? In this course we will discuss all the ground work you need to safely be a drone pilot under the commercial guidelines of FAA Part 107, (those interested will be eligible to take the test for their Remote Pilot Airman Certificate with the FAA at the conclusion of this course). We will integrate hands-on experience with classroom material.

This course will start with understanding your camera and how to use F-stop, shutter speed, and lenses to get the best results.
