Encounter the thrill of riding a (tame) bull under the watchful eye of ‘The Bionic Bullrider’ himself, Barry Brown, with a field trip to a real cattle ranch. I was riding horses before I could walk, and grew up on the rodeo circuit where my dad was a fourtimes world champion steer wrestler. At the age of 14 I began competing as a professional barrel racer. I realized my love and passion is teaching people about horses, so in 1999 I opened my own riding academy. I truly love my job, and there is nothing better in the world than spending a day at the barn!
Learning To Ride: Beginners
Learn how to interpret a horse’s body language and how to ride safely in an arena setting. This class will teach skills to recognize what the horse is communicating and useful body ride mechanics. Students will learn safe foot positions in the stirrups, how to be light on the reins, how to mount safely, cues for navigation in the arena, and potentially gain fitness benefits. This class is slow, and progressive for beginners or for those who are returning to the saddle. Horses have played an enormous role in the human experience.

Jewelry Construction
The allure of hand made, eye-catching adornments will inspire you. With a desire to design simple jewelry, learn basic noncasting jewelry construction techniques. Create unique rings, bracelets and pendants. Enameling on copper will also be taught.
Beginning Wire Wrap: Earrings
This is a basic wire wrapping class. Students will learn how to cut, form and finish two pair of earrings. A leaf shaped pair will be embellished with beads. A teardrop shaped pair will use the 2 and 2 wire wrapping technique as the featured design. This class requires up close work. Students are urged to bring magnification, if needed.

Butterflies For Your Garden
Learn about the life cycle of butterflies and what can be done to encourage their survival. Plant nectar sources to attract them and larval plants to foster the egg-laying and feeding of caterpillars. Then watch as the caterpillars grow and transform into a chrysalis where metamorphosis occurs and the butterfly emerges to begin the cycle again. Learn what you can do to reduce insecticidal use, pests, and diseases and specifically what larval plants to grow for which butterflies. On this easy-paced, 2 hour paddle trip (canoe or kayak, your choice) you’ll learn why this is one of North Florida’s most famous spring runs. With a rich history stretching back nearly 14,000 years and a variety of habitats and wild species, Ichetucknee is great for everyone from birders and botanists, to people who just like to experience nature at its finest.

Island Hopping The Cedar Keys *
Nature still rules in the Cedar Keys area of Florida’s Big Bend. It’s a low, wet country where land merges gradually with the sea, shrinking and expanding with the ebb and flow of tides. Shore birds, dolphins, horseshoe crabs and a menagerie of plant and animal species make this a fascinating area to explore by kayak. This easy, out-and-back paddle ends at the same site from which we launch. The gentle current makes for easy paddling. Good for beginners and pros alike. Basic instructions given for beginners.

Silver Springs has long been one of the crown jewels of wild Florida, with clear spring water and beautiful semi-tropical scenery. Zen Birding and Yoga
Enjoy the peaceful serenity of the great outdoors in this fun, new class! Start with a 5‑10 minute guided meditation while listening to the sounds of nature and connecting with your breath. Historic Duckpond Walking Tour
Saltwater demands unique and exciting adaptions of the species that live within it. Nowhere in North-Central Florida are these adaptations more beautifully revealed than in mangrove forests of the Suncoast Keys on Central Florida’s Gulf Coast. Shallow, calm water protected from winds and waves by numerous islands make this an ideal environment for kayak exploration.

The World of M.K. Rawlings *
On this kayak/canoe tour of Cross Creek and portions of Orange and Lochloosa Lakes, we’ll explore the wild realm made famous by Pulitzer Prize winning Author, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. The charming creek, beautiful lake vistas and abundant wildlife remain little changed since the early - mid 1900’s, when Rawlings lived here and wrote such Florida classics as The Yearling and Cross Creek.
NEW 90 minute walking tour. The Duckpond is the first district to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places in Alachua County. The Thomas Center is the centerpiece of the neighborhood and was originally known as the Hotel Thomas.

Celestial Navigation
Learn how to navigate using the stars! This two session course (facilitated by James C. Albury co-host of the nationally syndicated PBS program ‘Star Gazers’) teaches you the fundamentals of finding your way around using the stars. By the end of the course, tell what season it is, which direction you’re traveling and how far north or south you are on the Earth, just by the constellations you can see above you. Both two-hour sessions will be held at the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium at Santa Fe College’s NW Campus using their Chronos optical/mechanical projector by Goto.

You may drop a class and receive a full refund by calling the Community Education office DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION TERM for any class 2 weeks or longer in length. For shorter classes, you must drop the class at least 2 business days before the class begins to receive a refund. After that, you must fill out a petition for refund.
