Enameling is an ancient technique of firing colored glass in power form on metal. In this class, basic enameling technique will be used along with glass beads to create unique patterns on the metal. Make a pin or a small charm in this class. Please bring your own apron.

In this class, a small laser engraver will be used to engrave your name or small icons on a wooden tag. Learn how to use laser engraver just by using a simple phone app. The size of the name or small icons will be within 1x1 inch. Introduction To Drawing: Part I
Using only a graphite pencil, we will explore the quality of line to describe organic and inorganic shapes, soft edges and hard edges. The same descriptive lines will be used to draw contour and cross contour shapes and finally these objects will be grouped together to form an interesting composition in correct proportion, one object to another.
Principles of Composition and Design
Learn how to strengthen your paintings by employing compositional strategies. See how to catch the viewers eye and move it through your painting and how to edit your reference material for the greatest impact. Island Hopping The Cedar Keys *
The Cedar Keys area of Florida’s Big Bend is a low, wet country where land merges gradually with the sea, shrinking and expanding with the ebb and flow of tides. Shore birds, dolphins, horseshoe crabs and a menagerie of plant and animal species make this a fascinating area to explore by kayak. The gentle current makes for easy paddling. Good for beginners and pros alike. Basic instructions given for beginners.

Silver River: Naturalist’s Edition *
This will be a slow-poking exploration, geared toward inquisitive paddlers more interested in learning wild lore than covering distance. Unlike our other paddle tour/classes, this one will only cover a couple of miles in total, allowing time to drift, observe and learn about the river’s plants, animals, archaeology, history and other wild lore. If you want to see more of the river and learn a bit less of its wild lore, I recommend one of the other great courses offered here.

This class will focus on the founding of Gainesville in 1853 and its first 50 years. Gainesville’s Rich History: 1903-1953
This class focuses on life in Gainesville from 1903 and the next fifty years. Among the topics covered will be the arrival of the University of Florida, the building of the Masonic Temple and the Federal Building, which we now know as the Hippodrome, and the growth of downtown. We will also discuss Gainesville High School and Lincoln High in the 1920s, the land boom, and the impact of the Depression and World War II.

You may drop a class and receive a full refund by calling the Community Education office DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION TERM for any class 2 weeks or longer in length. For shorter classes, you must drop the class at least 2 business days before the class begins to receive a refund. After that, you must fill out a petition for refund. See website for refund policies. You will receive a refund check in the mail in approximately 3—4 weeks. Your credit card account will NOT be credited for the amount.
