Learn how to best communicate with your puppy and also provide an opportunity for your dog to socialize. Classes aimed at earning the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction. Get info on puppy raising questions including housetraining, chewing, and the most effective way to teach practical skills.

Easy Beginner Horseback - Trail Riding

Learn to ride trail horses in an easy‑going environment and gain fitness benefits. Located 15 minutes east of the Gainesville Regional Airport, the 5K Horse Ranch is your destination for western style pleasure riding. Classes start in the arena, and if riders develop in their skills, they can graduate to the simulated trails on the ranch. This class is for beginners.

Baxter’s Horse Driving

This intensive 2 day workshop covers an introduction to driving safety, basic harness identification, fitting, steps in schooling a horse to drive, lungeing, long lining, hitching and driving. Experience with horses preferred.

Arts and Crafts Introduction To Cabbing

Learn how to turn a slice of rock into a cabochon suitable for use in jewelry. This beginning class will teach you to trim, grind, and polish stone on a variety of lapidary equipment, creating a flat-backed, domed cab. Class taught by instructors from the Gainesville Gem and Mineral Society in conjunction with The Tech Toybox.

Pottery 101 - Wheel Throwing

People have been using utensils for a long time, however, spoons always have their own special places in the history. Spoons are used in ornate ceremonies and to demonstrate wealth and power. Spoons are given as precious gifts for new born children and newly wedded couples. Now, make your own spoon in copper! Choose the shape you like and complete a spoon in three hours.

DIY: Enameling Metal Trays

Enamel is a type of glass that comes in powder form, allowing you to apply and fire colors freely on metal. People have been using them to decorate various objects since the 9th century. Now you can use this chance to practice this unique technique to create one of your own. Learn to use a stencil to create beautiful patterns and how to polish after firing (a standard tray is 3 3/8” x 8/3” round).

Expanded! Fossils Into Gems

This course will introduce cabbers to the wide variety of materials, such as petrified wood, fossil shells, corals, bones, even dino poop! Advanced cutting techniques: Withlacoochee coral. Class taught by instructors from the Gainesville Gem and Mineral Society in conjunction with The Tech Toybox. Prerequisite: Introduction to Cabbing or previous experience cutting cabochons.

DIY: Copper Spoon Making

Woodcraft - Signs of Love

Everyone loves wall signs that make a personal statement. Students will personalize a weathered or prepared board with paint, overlays and custom stenciling. Watercolors: Beyond Basics II

Using only graphite pencils, we will explore the quality of line to describe organic and inorganic shapes, soft edges and hard edges. Then we will learn how to define the proportion of objects to one another and the placement of objects to form an interesting composition.

Have fun learning the basic techniques needed to produce lively, colorful, luminous and exciting watercolors. Learn to make effective washes and glazes, apply wet in wet methods and compose a landscape. Materials required will be discussed during the first class, but bring any materials you already have.

All About Wine: Bordeaux

Cheese making is a simple and healthy use of dairy products to add a nutritious protein source to your diet. One doesn’t necessarily need to purchase special equipment, or tools to make a simple farm cheese! Instructor will demonstrate the technique of making farm cheese that can be manipulated to make a product like cottage cheese to a lovely feta. Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge *

On this kayak/canoe trip, we’ll explore the remote backwaters of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge where we’ll learn about Frank Chapman’s 1880’s ornithological expedition. We’ll compare today’s wildlife with that noted by Chapman (which included now-extinct?) ivory-billed woodpeckers. Difficulty: Easy paddle on gentle current; Skill level: Good for beginners and pros alike.

The World of M.K. Rawlings *

On this kayak/canoe tour of Cross Creek and portions of Orange and Lochloosa Lakes, we’ll explore the wild realm made famous by Pulitzer Prize winning Author, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. The charming creek, beautiful lake vistas and abundant wildlife remain little changed since the early - mid 1900’s, when Rawlings lived here and wrote such Florida classics as The Yearling and Cross Creek. Silver River Paddle *

Silver Springs has long been one of the crown jewels of wild Florida, with clear spring water and beautiful semi-tropical scenery. Ichetucknee Adventure *

This 3.5 mile kayak/canoe exploration of the upper Ichetucknee River is characterized by beautiful limestone outcroppings, springs, excellent scenery and rich history, making it one of Florida’s most famous rivers. For 14,000 yrs, these waters have quenched the thirst of Indians, Spanish missionaries and DeSoto’s conquistadors!

Zen Birding and Yoga

Enjoy the peaceful serenity of the great outdoors in this fun, new class! Start with a 5‑10 minute guided meditation while listening to the sounds of nature and connecting with your breath. Then be led through 40 minutes of gentle yoga sequences. Afterward, enjoy a short stroll around the campus to listen to and watch for birds and other wildlife. The whole experience should last about 90 minutes.

Learn to fly drones for the pleasure of capturing pictures, recording family events and just the pure fun of it. You may drop a class and receive a full refund by calling the Community Education office DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION TERM for any class 2 weeks or longer in length. For shorter classes, you must drop the class at least 2 business days before the class begins to receive a refund. After that, you must fill out a petition for refund. See website for refund policies. You will receive a refund check in the mail in approximately 3—4 weeks. Your credit card account will NOT be credited for the amount.
