CAREER PATHWAYS
Finding the right career pathway can be difficult. Santa Fe College’s Career Pathways program allows students the opportunity to explore careers in emerging fields that will prepare them for the future. The Career Pathways program at SF coordinates with local school districts to offer students taking Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school – saving time and money. Students enrolled in these courses are eligible to receive college credit through either industry certification or by passing a Career Pathways college level assessment. Upon successful completion of CTE courses, industry certification or Career Pathways assessment, students are awarded college credit through SF. This credit will become a part of the Career Pathways student’s permanent college record and may be transferable to other colleges and universities. Benefits of SF’s Career Pathways program Earn high school and college credit at the same time Qualify for Bright Futures scholarships Pay no tuition or lab fees Finish college faster Here are some of the facts: We know that in 2017, 96 percent of Florida Career Pathways high school students graduated compared to 82 percent of all Florida high school students (FLDOE, 2017). We also know that our Career Pathways students saved on average $448.12 in tuition costs. Career Pathways credit allows students to get a head start in both careers and college, and may even lead to finishing college faster.
CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES DEFINED CERTIFICATE Certificate programs offer postsecondary adult vocational courses to prepare you for entry directly into employment. Certificates do not require 60 credit hours of college course work. However, students must meet specific basic skills requirements in English, math and writing. A certificate typically takes six months to two years to complete.
ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE (A.S.) The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree program is designed to prepare you for a career, but in some cases it may transfer to a bachelor’s program. A.S. programs provide a good balance of general education coursework and hands-on training with the end goal to enter the workforce. The A.S. degree typically takes two years to complete and leads to a bachelor’s degree.
BACHELOR’S (B.S. and B.A.S.) A bachelor’s degree is the highest degree you can achieve in undergraduate education. Santa Fe College offers Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) degrees in certain program areas. For most, a bachelor’s degree at SF is the next step after obtaining an A.A. or an A.S. degree. It allows students to continue to build skills and advance in a career field. A bachelor’s degree typically requires two additional years after completing an A.A. or A.S. degree.

HOW IT WORKS MAKE THE GRADE, TAKE THE TEST For some college courses, students can earn college credit through the successful completion of an industry certification. For others, credit is earned through a college-level final exam. To qualify to take the exam, students must have a minimum of a B average in their high school course (in some high school programs a C average), teacher recommendation and parental permission.
START A COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT If students earn the appropriate industry certification or pass a Career Pathways college-level exam with an A, B or Pass, they will receive college credit on an SF transcript while still in high school and that credit becomes a part of their permanent college record.
