Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery SRCity.org/ruralcemetery 707-543-3279 Location: 1600 Franklin Ave The Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery is a 17-acre historic landmark located in the heart of Santa Rosa. It was a burial site for early residents primarily from the 1850s through the 1930s. Volunteers restored the cemetery from decades of neglect for the enjoyment of all. Open to the public daily, 6am-9pm (PDT) and 6am-6pm (PST). Dogs must be on leash always. Burial plot maps and self-guided tour brochures may be found at the kiosks and on the website.

Adopt-A-Green Space, Rural Cemetery maintenance and programs and Luther Burbank Home & Gardens are just a few examples. Below is a partial list of events. We love our volunteers! ORGANIZE A PARK PROJECT OR CLEAN UP! If your service club, scout troop, neighborhood, church, school or business wishes to hold a volunteer workday or special project in one of our parks, contact the Volunteer Coordinator. PARK-A-MONTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM These monthly family-friendly workdays help beautify our parks, historic sites and recreation centers through tasks such as litter pickup, spreading mulch, cleaning, pruning, invasive species removal, weeding and more. CREEK STEWARDSHIP ACTIVITIES OURS TO PROTECT The Sonoma County Water Agency and City of Santa Rosa support individuals, businesses, neighbors, and community groups who volunteer as Creek Stewards to help keep local creeks clean and safe. Creek Stewards adopt a stretch of creek and help with restoration projects, pick up litter, and provide suggestions that add to the public's enjoyment of the trails, scenery, and wildlife. Organize your own creek cleanup! For help organizing a creek clean up with your neighborhood, school, community group, or business, please call 707-543-3845 or email creeks@srcity.org. Need Community Service hours? Creek clean ups are great community service projects for students. First Saturday Cleanup on Prince Memorial Greenway (ages 5 and up) On the first Saturday of every month, help take care of Santa Rosa Creek in the heart of downtown. 34th Annual Sonoma County Creek to Coast Clean Up (ages 5 and up) Keep the beaches clean! Join the 33rd Annual Sonoma County Creek to Coast Cleanup. Santa Rosa’s 100 miles of creeks flow to the Russian River and then out to the Pacific Ocean. Up to 80 % of ocean debris originates from land-based sources. Gloves, tools, and snacks provided.

Learn the ancient art of Taiko, known as the heartbeat of Japan. Taiko is about incorporating your whole body into playing. Much like martial arts, it’s about harmonizing your mind, body and spirit with the drum. This class introduces you to the basics of playing Taiko and provides a cultural context for the art form. You will gain skills and learn a song to play! Wear comfortable, gym-style clothing and bring a water bottle. Instructor: Miwa Smith and Meg Mizutani are longtime members of Sonoma County Taiko and teach a variety of classes and workshops.
Now is the time to plant for many months of harvest! With attention to timing and other details, fall and winter gardens can be very productive. Learn about crop scheduling, selection, soil preparation, cover crops, mulches, crop rotation and winter care for fruit trees and other perennials. Tips for getting cool season crops established in late summer, as well as making the most of the current harvest, will be discussed. Instructor: Wendy Krupnick has been growing food crops for over 40 years and has a wealth of professional experience, including as coordinator of the market garden at the Santa Rosa Junior College Shone Farm and as adjunct faculty in the SRJC Sustainable Ag program.
Learn to grow mushrooms at home and explore the amazing role of fungi in nature and our lives. This unique hands-on beginner course is an excellent introduction to the lifecycle of fungi and how to cultivate them in your own home or garden. Learn mushroom biology, classification, growth-cycle, and about cultivation equipment. You’ll receive 2 different mushroom growing kits, included with the class. Join us for a fun time in the water for all ages! During Recreation Swim times, all facilities are open for public use and lifeguards are on duty. Lockers are available for 50¢. During summer, concession stands offer food and beverages for sale. See operating hours below. Recreation Swim Policies • No flotation devices, including swim suits with built-in flotation pieces. • Children under age 8 must be supervised by a responsible person age 16+. • Children under age 5 must have an adult in the water with them always. • No jean cut-offs, T-shirts, or street shorts allowed in the water. • Only clearly identified service animals are permitted. • Children must be 48 inches to ride the Ridgway water slide. • Swimwear with exposed zippers, buckles or metal rivets are not permitted on the Ridgway water slide. • No Thong/G-string suits permitted. • Children over age 5 are not allowed in opposite-sex locker rooms. • Unisex restrooms available. • $5 replacement fee for re-printed passes.

Beginning Swim Program CHILD-ADULT BEGINNER: NO WATER EXPERIENCE NEEDED
These courses are designed for all ages to gain basic water skills. The focus is water adjustment and fun!
Parent-Child: Ages 6 months-3 years
This is a FUN introduction to the water with singing, games, blowing bubbles, going underwater, floating, kicking and scooping. Parent participation in the water is required.
Tadpoles: Ages 3-5
Students work on comfort in the water and having fun. Basic skills like blowing bubbles, going underwater, floating, kicking and alternating arms are taught through games and imagination.
Water Frogs: Ages 4-5
Students work on water adjustment, submerging, front and back floats, kicking, front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke.
Sea Stars: Ages 6-9
Students work on water adjustment, submerging, front and back floats, kicking, front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke.
Dolphins: Ages: 10-15
Taught in 3 1/2 feet of water, students work on water adjustment and beginning swimming skills. Student progress and needs determine the pace of the course. More advanced skills may be taught including breaststroke, sidestroke, treading water, and dives.
Adult Beginner: Ages 16+
Students work on skills ranging from water adjustment and floating to front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke. The pace of the course is based on student progress and needs. The class is taught in 3 1/2 feet of water.

Intermediate Swim Program LEVELS 2-5: SWIMMING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
SWIM LESSON INFORMATION
This program is designed to build swimming proficiency, technique and endurance. The focus is skill development.
• Participants must meet the minimum age level by first day of class.
Level 2: Ages 5-9
• No make-up classes allowed. If a class is missed, please take the remaining classes.
Level 3: Ages 6+
• It is common for children to repeat a level before progressing to the next level.
Prerequisite: Swim front crawl and back crawl 5 yards. Students work on side breathing, back crawl and elementary backstroke arms. Prerequisite: Front crawl with side-breathing, back crawl for 15 yards, and elementary backstroke arms for 5 yards. Teaching emphasize on side-breathing and endurance for front crawl. Introduction to elementary backstroke kick, breaststroke kick, butterfly kick and sitting and kneeling dives. This course is taught in deeper water.
Level 4: Ages 6+
Prerequisite: Front crawl 25 yards with excellent side-breathing, back crawl 25 yards, elementary backstroke, breaststroke kick, and dolphin kick for 15 yards. Students learn to coordinate breaststroke arms and kick, are introduced to butterfly, work on treading water, and learn to do a standing dive.
Level 5: Ages 6+
Prerequisite: front crawl and back crawl 50 yards, elementary backstroke 25 yards, breaststroke and butterfly 15 yards. Students improve technique and endurance on the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and breaststroke and develop proficiency in butterfly, sidestroke, treading water, diving and flip turns.

Safety Training Life Guard Training AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING - FULL COURSE Finley Aquatic Center - Age: 15+ $135-$145 This 54-hour course meets all criteria towards becoming a professional lifeguard. The following certificates are earned upon successful completion: Lifeguarding/Standard First Aid/CPR/AED for the Lifeguard and First Aid for Public Safety Personnel-Title 22 (California requirement). Participants are evaluated on the first day of class to meet the following prerequisites: • Successfully complete a 300yd. swim, demonstrating a reasonable proficiency of the front-crawl/free-style and breaststroke. Must swim continuously without stopping, goggles allowed. • Tread water with legs only in an upright position for 2 minutes. •
Surface-swim 20yds, dive to a depth over 7ft., retrieve a 10lb. object, resurface, return to starting point and climb out of the pool without using ladder or steps. Must be successfully completed within 1 minute, 40 seconds. No goggles.
