As Leaves & Temperatures Fall, Join Us for Warmth & Sharing My, how time does fly! Before you settle in for a bit of hibernating this winter, let us remind you that there’s always plenty to do at your senior centers in every season. Here’s a look back at some of the autumn fun we just had, and a preview of winter celebrations to come:
Oktoberfest
More than 70 seniors celebrated Okoberfest with traditional food, biergarten and music, followed by ballroom dancing. Special thanks to Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary Club, musician Steve Balich and the Manny Gutierrez Quartet.
Bingo Party
Always popular, more than 55 players attended our annual Bingo Party at Steele Lane Community Center. Lunch was served up and a lucky few walked away with great prizes!
Halloween Ballroom Dance
Spirits and feet were floating as dancers enjoyed the sounds of Tom Shader at the annual Halloween ballroom dance party.
Celebrations Coming Soon

Thank You John Boes We are very pleased to have received two model ships donated by John Boes. John was drawn to the art of model making at age seven after attending the DeYoung Museum at Golden Gate Park. His replica of the Cutty Sark (pictured here) took about a year to complete. John has won awards for his models, which have been displayed in museums. Now, you can see John’s models permanently on display in the Person Senior Wing library!
History Classes These weekly history presentations are presented by our new instructor, Susan Whitehair. Susan has a passion for history and experience at Angel Island State Park, where she provided historical information to visitors. John Boes 2

Gift Card Security Tips Plan to give gift cards this holiday season? Here are some tips so you don’t give the plastic equivalent of coal:
• If possible, buy from a rack that’s behind a counter and staffed by a store employee. If you buy from a display rack, make sure the packaging is intact and any peel-off sticker over a code is in place. • When paying for a card, make sure the cashier scans the card in your presence for the value you paid.

• Always get a receipt for yourself as well as for the card recipient, this will help with a refund or replacement if the card is stolen. • Online, buy directly from websites of the issuing retailer and register the purchase on the website if possible. • Delete emails and hang up on phone calls that claim you›ve won a gift card. 3
