Try Something NEW for the New Year! A year has come and gone, and we would like to encourage you to try something new in the New Year. Make 2016 memorable by trying one of the following activities: Meet New People The Person Senior Wing has a monthly book club that always welcomes new members! All you need to do is read the book and come to the meeting – be prepared for lively conversation about what you have read. The group will meet 1:30-3pm Jan. 25th to discuss A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler and on February 22nd to discuss The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion Fitness and Weight Loss Dance your way to fitness in Zumba, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11am at the Person Senior Wing or work on mind and body soundness in Tai Chi at the Bennett Valley Senior Center, Mondays 9-10am or Thursdays 9-10am.
Enjoy Life More Become the singer you have longed to be! Join Susana Crofton for Improv Singing Parties at the Person Senior Wing. This new program is perfect for all levels of singers and you will have more fun singing than you ever thought possible! Thursdays (beginning January 7th) 10:30am-12pm, $5 drop-in. Learn A New Skill Have you considered learning to speak Spanish? The Bennett Valley Senior center has a Spanish Class for every level of learner. Come learn the basics from 12:30-2pm or get conversational in Advanced Spanish from 11am-12:45pm. Or become a whiz on your computer or tablet. Computer lab hours are available at the Person Senior Wing Tu/Th 9-11am or at the Bennett Valley Center Mon/Wed/Fri 9-11am.

Instructor Spotlight Meet Jill Freed, Zumba Gold Instructor Jill has been teaching Zumba since 2007. Her goal as an instructor is to inspire others to fitness, no matter their age, size or fitness level. Her philosophy is that it is never too late to get stronger and fitter. And wherever you start, it’s possible to progress and start feeling better in the totality of your body, mind and spirit! Jill has been a fitness enthusiast for most of her life. She started dancing as a child and by the time she was a teenager, she
was a member of the Elle Johnson Dance Company. Jill found her passion with dance and continued her training in New York. In 2006, Jill tried Zumba and from the first moment the Zumba music started, she knew it was something she had to be involved in. For Jill, “Zumba is Jill Freed, the perfect combination of dance Zumba Gold Instructor and fitness. Around Town Announcing the 5th annual St. Patrick’s Day 5K This year, celebrate the Irish Holiday with a walk, jog or run in the 5th annual St. Patrick’s Day 5K on Sunday, March 13, 2016. This 5K chip-timed race is open to all ages and abilities … last year, line dancer Norma Rettinhouse even won her age division!
Stick around after the race for the post-run celebration complete with a judged costume contest. All event proceeds go to the Santa Rosa Rec & Parks Scholarship Fund. Did You Know? Computer Lab at the Bennett Valley Senior Center Did you get a new camera for the holidays and want to learn how to upload and save pictures? Do you want to be able to send an email but don’t know how to set up an account? We invite people of all computer levels to participate in the Computer and Technology Lab at the Bennett Valley Senior Center Mon, Wed, Fri 9-11am, $2 drop-in fee. These open lab hours are staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers. They can help with these and any other computer questions! Don’t miss your opportunity to get one-on-one help from a savvy computer user at the Bennett Valley Senior Center. In addition to open computer lab, the Bennett Valley Senior Center will be holding computer workshops for beginners. 5
