Fun in the Sun! Summertime and Rec & Parks go hand in hand, so it’s no surprise that National Parks and Recreation month is appropriately celebrated in July. To honor the special season, Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department is offering a wealth of outdoor experiences to get you celebrating here at the local level all summer long! Please welcome Joanna Moore, our new Recreation Coordinator to Person Senior Wing. A native to the Bay Area, Joanna fell in love with community service when she was only a teenager. Inspired as a volunteer at an assisted living home, Joanna quickly developed a deep passion for working with seniors. Joanna Moore This resolve stuck with her through Recreation Coordinator her involvement in the non-profit community and now working as the Recreation Coordinator at the Person Senior Wing. She has extensive experience in coordinating programs and strongly believes bringing residents together to experience all that the City of Santa Rosa has to offer will strengthen their sense of community pride and enhance health, wellness and quality of life.

As of April 1, Lucky’s Supermarket changed their “Shares Card” program to escript. The link to the new program is escript.com. It is finally up and running and Rec & Parks senior programs are listed under “Senior Center.” We would be happy to help you get signed up at the front desk at the Bennett Valley Senior Center.

Two new senior classes just started at Bennett Valley! Better Balance with Jae on Wednesday 12-1pm and Crafting with Bobbette on Tuesday and Friday from 11am-2pm. Read about these great classes on page 4 & 5.

Instructor Spotlight Crafting with Bobbette! You asked we listened! Introducing a brand new class! Bobbette has been creating and teaching crafts of various kinds for over 20 years. Paper crafting is very popular right now and Bobbette will be bringing her diecutting machines and tools to teach you how to create beautiful cards to keep or share as well as gift tags, gift bags that look like miniature purses, home décor items like fall banners and Halloween treat boxes. You won’t want to miss her 12 weeks of Christmas series!! You can bring in your own crafts that you need help with or do the craft

Health & Fitness Corner The Benefits of Water Water is an all important component in our lives. Drinking water is vital to our health. Three fourths of the body consists of water and we need to keep water flowing through our digestive system in order to stay healthy and alert.

Talent Wanted! Talent Show in October! The annual Senior Talent show at Bennett Valley returns October 8 and we are looking for individuals to perform and celebrate the creativity of the people around us. If you don’t like performing but want to still be a part of this great production there are numerous volunteer opportunities available. Past performances have included Scottish dancing, poetry, comedy skits, and even a Barbershop Quartet! Further information will be available in the coming months for those wanting to attend the show. Instructor Spotlight Better Balance with Jae Newman New class starting July 6 at Bennett Valley Senior Center with current Person Senior Wing instructor Jae Newman! Since 2013, Jae Newman has done a phenomenal job teaching Balance and Pilates classes Jae Newman at the Person Senior Wing.
