Instructor Spotlight Ed Meisse, Tai Chi Instructor Meet Ed Meisse, new Tai-Chi instructor at the Person Senior Wing. Ed has been practicing tai chi for 15 years and has found the practice has improved his sense of well-being, confidence and dramatically improved his posture. His goal as a teacher is to find a way to meet the needs of a diversity of participants. He believes in taking a broad approach and giving participants a variety of tools to make tai chi work for them. As Ed puts it, “a comprehensive approach is best as one size doesn’t fit all!” — all levels are encouraged to participate!

Senior Ombudsman Program
The Area Agency on Aging is asking for community opinions on how to meet the needs of seniors with a Needs Assessment Survey. Your answers will help the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) plan and develop services to meet the needs of our community’s older adults and their caregivers. If you are age 60 or over and a Sonoma County resident, they want to hear from you! The Senior Needs Assessment survey is available online at www.socoaaa.org, or paper copies are available at both senior centers. Please submit your responses by September 18, 2015.

The Ombudsman Program, an advocacy program for residents living in long-term care facilities is looking for a few good volunteers! This important program utilizes trained volunteers to make unannounced visits to long-term care facilities in Sonoma County to identify and problem-solve issues our seniors may be experiencing. Most of our volunteers are seniors themselves, living independently and willing to help those less fortunate. Our mission is to ensure dignity, quality of life and care for the over 4,000 residents in Sonoma County’s skilled nursing facilities, residential care homes, and assisted living facilities by empowering residents and advocating on behalf of those unable to advocate for themselves. A new 36 hour certification class starts on September 22, 2015. Please contact us today! Call Kathy Baldassari or Crista Chelemedos at 707.526.4108 or email us at volunteer@sasnb.org.
