Four Good Reasons to Celebrate LIFE at Your Senior Centers Have you checked out your local senior center lately? September is National Senior Center Month, a great time to plan a visit. Whether you are 50 or 90, there are many ways to celebrate LIFE (Learning, Independence, Friends, and Energy) at senior centers. Here are four good reasons to plan a visit:
1. Learning: Expand your knowledge
It’s never too late to learn a new skill, and senior centers offer a wide range of stimulating educational activities to keep your mind sharp.
2. Independence: Live on your terms
By joining a senior center, you’ll be connected to programs and people that can give you the tools to choose your own course in life. You’ll find programs to help you remain healthy, stay economically secure, age positively and keep contributing to your community.
3. Friends: Enjoy life
Did you know that senior center participants have higher levels of social interaction and life satisfaction than their peers? Having great friends is one of life’s most wonderful rewards, and senior centers can be a perfect place to meet new people in your neighborhood.
4. Energy: Discover health and vitality
Keeping your mind and body active improves the way you feel and prevents many health problems that come with age. Senior centers offer traditional group fitness classes like aerobics, Zumba, yoga, and Tai Chi, as well as evidence-based health programs scientifically proven to make people healthier.
Now is the time to celebrate LIFE by taking full advantage of everything senior centers have to offer! By National Council on Aging

Safe In Santa Rosa Is it safe for pets to be loose in the car while driving? While there is no law that specifically forbids you from driving with your pet unrestrained in your car, the Santa Rosa Police Department strongly advises against it. Pets can be unpredictable and spooked easily in a moving car. Accidents have occurred when a dog or cat loose in the car got tangled in the driver’s feet or the animal distracted the driver. A pet on the driver’s lap can be injured or killed by the airbag deploying in an accident.
Here are some tips for safely traveling with your pet: • Secure your pet while traveling. An unrestrained pet can become a projectile if there is a sudden stop or crash, injuring or killing passengers and the pet. • Restrain dogs with a kennel or caged section of the vehicle where the dog can’t get to the driver’s seat area. Secure smaller dogs in pet car seats. • Put cats in a crate or pet car seat secured with a seat belt. Never let a cat roam freely in the vehicle. • Don’t let a pet ride with its head out the window. An obstacle could strike its head, injuring or killing it.
