Instructor Spotlight Tuesday is SPANISH day at the Bennett Valley Senior Center Have you considered learning or improving your Spanish? Learning a new language is great for mental acuity and a fun way to meet new friends. Don’t be intimidated by learning a new language now. Spanish is very nearly phonetically perfect, you can look at almost any word and immediately know exactly how to pronounce it. This characteristic makes Spanish one of the easiest languages to learn.

We have many lifelong learners engaged in learning Spanish. Join us on Tuesdays at the Bennett Valley Senior Center. We have the level that suits you! Basic Spanish 9:0010:30am. Intermediate Spanish 9:30-11:00am. Introduction to Spanish 10:30am-12:00pm. Advanced Spanish 11:00am12:30pm. Spanish Study 12:302:00pm.

Health & Fitness Corner March is National Nutrition Month Here are 10 tips to a “great plate” from the Department of Agriculture www.choosemyplate.gov 1) Balance Calories – Find out how many calories you need for a day is a first step in managing your weight.

6) Switch to fat-free of low-fat milk – they have the same amount of calcium and other essential nutrients but fewer calories.

2)

7) Make half your grains whole grains – To eat more whole grains, substitute a whole grain product for a refined product.

Enjoy your food but eat less – Take time to fully enjoy your food as you eat it. Eating too fast or when your attention is elsewhere may lead to eating too many calories.

3) Avoid oversized portions – Use a smaller plate, bowl, and glass. 4) Foods to eat more often – Eat vegetables, fruits, whole grains and fat free or low fate dairy products. 5) Make half of your plate fruits and vegetables – choose red, orange, and dark-green vegetables.

8) Foods to eat less often – cut back on foods high in solid fats, added sugars and salts less often. 9) Compare sodium in foods – Use the Nutrition Facts label to choose lower sodium versions of foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals. 10) Drink water instead of sugary drink – Cut calories by drinking water or unsweetened beverages. 4
