Dancing is the Best Form of Fitness for Body and Brain! Dancing is a unique form of exercise that provides the hearthealthy benefits of an aerobic workout while allowing you to engage in social activity. Dancing, especially line dancing, not only works out your body but also your mind. The combination of having to focus on the steps along with the timing of the dance creates a wonderful brain stimulation. A study published in the New York Journal of Medicine found that dancing can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. In the study, participants over the age of 75 who engaged in reading, dancing, and board games once a week had

a 7 percent lower risk of dementia compared to those who did not. Those who engaged in these activities at least 11 days a month had a 63 percent lower risk. Dancing also helps to improve balance, posture, bone density and cardiovascular and muscular strength as well as flexibility. Come join one of our many dance classes where you will be immersed in a great environment and gain confidence while having fun and meeting new friends. See the Active Adults (50+) section of the Activity Guide or visit us online at santarosarec.com for a complete listing of dance classes.
