FREE RADICALS EFFECT Respiration in the presence of oxygen is essential for our organism’s cellular life. As a result of this process, molecules called free radicals are produced which, throughout our life, have negative effects on our health. Free radicals are capable of altering DNA (genes), proteins and lipids or fats (oxidation). To keep healthy, there should be a fine balance between the mechanisms that generate free radicals and those that neutralize them. In many tissues, the reserves of antioxidation agents are limited, so an increase in the production of free radicals or a weakening of the antioxidant defences may lead the organism to suffer oxidative stress and cell damage. From this point of view, “oxidative stress” means a change in the balance – between oxidants and antioxidants – in favour of the first. Oxidative stress is the cause of wrinkles, flaccidity and age spots. The skin’s vital cells need to be protected by antioxidants. This is the reason why the incorporation of antioxidants such as Hydroxytyrosol in skincare products is so important.

OLIVE POLYPHENOLS Polyphenols are bioactive substances which are widely distributed throughout the vegetable kingdom and are elements which are actively present in Mediterranean Diet, along with other phytonutrients. The polyphenolic compounds are characteristic constituents of the olive, with biological properties such as antioxidant activity, the ability to capturate oxygenated and/or electrophilic species (free radicals) and inhibit nitrosation and chelate metal ions.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

It is effective at all levels: Hydroxytyrosol protects against both environmental and internal agents, protecting cell membranes and preventing cellular and structural disruption, desquamation, dehydration and aging.

A VERY COMPLETE ANTIOXIDANT

Electron scavenger: Our DPPH and ORAC studies show that OA Hidroxitirosol 40% is much superior than Q10, Idebenonae, Vit E, Vit C and many other usual antioxidants.

Cell and DNA protector: OA Hidroxitirosol 40% is present in cells it has a cellular antioxidant activity 1.5 times TE (50% higher than Vit E).

Stable: Hydroxytyrosol has the same antioxidant capacity as Vitamin C but with greater stability as Vitamin E.

Protector of lipid peroxidation: Our studies demonstrate that a dose 10 times lower, OA Hidroxitirosol 40% is 30% more effective than Vitamin E in protecting skin lipoperoxidation.

Whitening effect (Patented): Our in vitro and in vivo tests show that OA Hidroxitirosol 40% is more efficient than Arbutin, Kojic Acid and Vitamin C.

Soothing and repairing effect on skin: Compared to formulations containing Vitamin E, OA Hidroxitirosol 40% is able to double the efficacy of skin damaged recovery.

SPF booster: Our in vitro and in vivo studies show that increases by 20% a sunscreen’s SPF. Furthermore we have demonstrated that pre-treatment with OA Hidroxitirosol improve by 150% protection against solar radiation.

Metal ion chelator

Encapsulated LPD: Olive Active has the first hydroxytyrosol ready to be incorporated in cosmetic formulations avoiding colour or odour impact and boosting efectiveness.

Hydroxytyrosol has the same antioxidant capacity as Vitamin C but with greater stability. Much higher than Q 10 and Idebenone.
