Materials:

1/3 yard base print 1/3 yard solid accent 1/2 yard lining

From the base print: (1) 9” x 42” strip; recut into (2) 9” x 18” rectangles From the solid accent: (1) 6” x 42” strip; recut into (2) 6” x 15” rectangles (1) 1-1/2" x 42" strip, recut into (2) 2-1/2” x 17” strips From the lining: (1) 14” x 42” strip; recut into (2) 14” x 18” rectangles (1) 1-1/2" x 42" strip, recut into (2) 2-1/2” x 17” strips

Sewing Directions: Note: Use a 1/4" seam allowance unless otherwise stated.

1. Center along long edges, a 6” x 15” accent piece right sides together with a 9” x 18” base rectangle as shown. Sew together. Make 2.

Making the Bag and Lining

2. Layer 14” x 18” lining pieces right sides together. Measure and mark 3-1/2” in from both sides of an 18” side. Trim both linings from the mark to the bottom corners.

4. Layer the two pieced bag pieces right sides together. Using the trimmed lining pieces as a template, trim the bag pieces.

5. Sew bag pieces together along sides and bottom.

6. Fold bag so the seams of a bottom corner form a triangle, the bottom and side seams lining up. Measure 3” from the point, and sew perpendicular to the seams. Trim excess to a 1/2” seam allowance. Repeat on other corner, and on both lining corners.

Making the Handles

1. Place 2-1/2” x 17” solid accent and lining strips right sides together. With a 1/4" seam allowance, sew down both long edges. Make 2.

Assembly 1. With bag right sides out, pin ends of a handle to one side of bag, 1-1/2” in from the seams. The solid accent side of handle should be next to the solid accent of the bag. Sew handles in place with 1/4" seam. Repeat with other handle on other side of bag.

2. Slide the bag with handles into the lining (still right sides in).

2. Turn handles right sides out. Press flat. Topstitch 1/8” from both long edges of each handle.


3. Matching side seams, sew the bag and lining together with a 1/2" seam, leaving a 4� to 5� opening for turning.

4. Turn bag right sides out. Push lining into bag and pull up handles. Insert seam allowance, from opening, into the bag and press along top edge. Topstitch 1/8� from top of bag.
