They are World Leaders in equine research and nutrition, and their goal is to advance the feed industry’s understanding of equine nutrition and exercise physiology, and apply this knowledge to produce healthier, more athletic horses. Saracen is the exclusive KER Team Member in the UK, joining an international network of horse feed manufacturers devoted to the advancement of equine nutrition. KER provides these manufacturers with a comprehensive consultation programme tailored to fit the manufacturer’s individual needs, and the scientific knowledge, technology and credibility necessary for them to produce competitive, cutting-edge feeds. Their nutritionists work with feed companies on six continents to formulate top-quality feeds that complement typical local forages. These feeds contain custom blends of KER micronutrient premixes to ensure that, when fed with appropriate forage and according to label directions, they will provide a diet balanced to KER specifications. The corporate North American office is the home to KER’s research facilities. Nutrition and exercise physiology trials are conducted year-round at the 150-acre farm. The volume of published work completed at KER rivals that of leading universities. No other private research facility has contributed more original research to the proceedings of the Equine Science Society in the past 30 years. APPLICATION OF THE FEEDS IN THE RACING PROGRAMME
Our range of specialist racing feeds contain a novel and superior source of calcium shown to be more highly digestible than other forms of the mineral, including calcium carbonate. This new source can maximise bone density, and subsequent skeletal strength and maintenance. The new ingredients called BMC (Buffered Mineral Complex) are research proven to support digestive health and hindgut stability by maintaining the correct pH for optimal efficiency of the gastrointestinal tract. Recent research studies conducted by Kentucky Equine Research (KER) have demonstrated the positive effects that BMC has on bone turnover and density. Bone development is a necessary process to maintain a healthy skeleton as this increases the opportunity to repair damaged bone before a clinical problem occurs.
BMC also has a significant effect on the buffering capacity of the stomach and hindgut. Several key minerals that are highly digestible in BMC (particularly calcium, magnesium, boron, silicone, iodine, zinc, and manganese) have a slow release mechanism and as they are bioavailable, the body can absorb them much more easily. In an acid environment, this material breaks down slowly so it can neutralize meaningful amounts of excess acid over a longer period of time. After 6-8 hours at pH 5.5, 100% of calcium and 98.66% of magnesium has been released. We updated our formulations in March 2018 to incorporate the new calcium source combined with other significant minerals and with Vitamins A, C, D, E and K.

Saracen Racefit Cubes Racefit Cubes offer alternative energy sources within a higher fermentable fibre, lower starch formulation to give an energy efficient ration in a concentrated, pelleted form. This ration provides long lasting energy release and controlled performance for horses in full training in a highly palatable and convenient cube, with quality proteins and high levels of supporting vitamins and minerals. This diet works very well for horses that are intolerant to high starch diets by providing a balance of energy sources to support them, rather than relying totally on a high cereal inclusion. Soya hulls offer a highly digestible form of ‘super-fibres’, which have the ability to produce high levels of supplemental energy and are essential for maintaining a healthy digestive system and supporting gastric health.
Soya oil, an extremely useful source of calories for the racehorse, brings extra density, reducing the proportion of energy derived from starch. Racefit Cubes can be helpful for fussy feeders with reduced appetites, when dietary energy can be the limiting factor in sustaining a predictable performance.

Kentucky Balancer Kentucky Balancer is a densely concentrated mix for racehorses in full work, specifically developed to be used alongside oats. The mix has increased levels of key nutrients to offset the mineral deficiencies and imbalances found in traditional cereal diets. Kentucky Balancer is high in oil and ‘super fibres’, in the form of sugarbeet pulp, and is heavily fortified with Saracen’s Stamm 30 supplement for maximum vitamin and mineral supplementation. The formulation fully complements a ration with a high inclusion of oats, and is especially designed to be fed at an intake of 2 kilograms per head per day. It gives extra flexibility, as the oats ‘top up’ the energy levels, while the balancer remains constant to fortify the cereals, and add extra oil and ‘super fibres’ for energy.

As a result, a high fat, low starch and sugar formulation was developed for horses to train and run on. It provides the equine athlete with the high levels of energy that it requires for performance using a variety of preferred energy sources. Research has shown that when horses predisposed to tying-up were fed Re-Leve, they demonstrated less post-exercise muscle damage than horses fed on conventional racing diets. So it allows those horses that are susceptible to this problem to remain in training and to cope with their work load. Re-Leve is high in oil (9%) and low in starch (8%) and

sugar (6%), is highly fortified with supporting vitamins and minerals and a natural source of Vitamin E to assist normal muscle CU function. It is recommended RRANT FL that 0.5 – 1 kg of Equi-Jewel rice bran supplement is fed daily alongside Re-Leve to boost energy levels – this palatable supplement is naturally high in oil and fibre, but low in starch, so it is a very compatible product.
BL AC
Re-Leve is a vet recommended high performance mix, specially designed to replace all cereal and hard feed to support horses with gastric health and tying up issues. Collaborative research carried out between Dr Stephanie Valberg at Michigan State University and Kentucky Equine Research showed that, in a stressful training situation, diets that are composed largely of cereals and molasses can increase the occurrence of tying up.

Equi-Jewel®
RICE BRAN SUPPLEMENT
Equi-Jewel is a pelleted high oil rice bran supplement, designed to increase the energy density (calories) of a ration. It can be added to boost calorie intake, or to replace part of the ration to reduce concentrate consumption, so can be a good way to encourage picky eaters. The high oil (18%) and fibre levels are naturally occurring, making it very compatible for use alongside all of the other feeds in the Saracen racing range. Equi-Jewel is specifically designed to nutritionally support the equine athlete by providing a highly palatable form of additional calories and protein. It is very effective at adding condition, and building muscle and topline, and is useful for horses requiring a low carbohydrate energy source. The fat in Equi-Jewel is highly digestible, and is equally as digestible as corn oil, but in a more palatable, pelleted form. 500 grams (1 lb) of EquiJewel contains the same amount of energy as 250 millilitres (½ pint) of oil.
Feed 2-4 cups per day with balanced grain ration. This cup holds 0.25 kg/0.55lb. Please contact us about the measuring cups for more accurate feeding.

RiteTrac
™ TOTAL DIGESTIVE TRACT HEALTH SUPPLEMENT
RiteTrac™ is a scientifically proven supplement designed to support total digestive tract health. Targeted at both the foregut and the hindgut of the horse, RiteTrac™ works in two distinct ways by neutralising and buffering excess acid. When fed in conjunction with correct management and forage regimes, RiteTrac™ helps to maintain optimal conditions in the horse’s stomach by restoring the normal gastric environment. RiteTrac is a granular powder that contains fast acting antacids, mucosal coating agents and a maintenance dose of Equishure® to help support the optimum pH in the horse’s hindgut and maintain normal fermentation patterns.
RiteTrac will help to maintain optimum appetite and performance in horses by supporting normal gastric pH throughout the digestive tract. When RiteTrac is included in a meal, normal gastric pH is maintained for up to 6-8 hours allowing the horse to eat normally.
RiteTrac includes an antacid blend proven to be effective at elevating gastric pH in horses. Coating agents provide ongoing protection of the gastric mucosa, which brings rapid relief from the discomfort associated with gastric ulcers.
FEEDING DIRECTIONS Feed 120 gms daily 1 scoop = 60 gms For best results, split between two feeds - if there is mild ulceration, RiteTrac can reduce symptoms by having a ‘protective’ effect. However, the most important role is to prevent ulcers from occurring in the first place.
RiteTrac is recommended for strategic use during training and travelling, or at any time when feeding patterns are compromised. It is also recommended as a digestive tract support for horses on chronic administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
NO GUTS, NO GLORY
Symptoms of Gastrointestinal Upset - Difficult or unsettled behaviour - Poor coat - Loss of appetite - Mild colic - Weight loss - Loose droppings - Stable vices such as wood chewing, box walking, and weaving
RiteTrac is available in 3 kg and 6 kg tubs, containing 25 or 50 servings of 120 grams respectively.
EquiShure
®
DIGESTIVE HEALTH SUPPLEMENT
EquiShure supports intestinal health by helping to maintain a normal pH in the horse’s hindgut. EquiShure is a timereleased hindgut buffer proven to reach the target organs as an encapsulated source of sodium bicarbonate for the colon and caecum. At-risk horses often express one or more signs that can reduce athletic performance. EquiShure is suitable for: > Horses with a decreased feed intake and poor appetite > Horses that are not maintaining optimum body condition > Horses on high grain diets > Horses that develop habits such as wood chewing, weaving or box walking > Horses with digestive upsets resulting in loose droppings The demands placed on horses as athletes dictate that substantial quantities of energy rich feeds are often consumed. Overconsumption of high starch concentrates can rapidly increase fermentation in the horse's hindgut. EquiShure can be used to help maintain a normal pH during the intense periods of a stressful racing campaign, or when travelling, or at any time when there is a greater reliance on high starch and cereal diets without adequate levels of forage.
Use the table below to determine recommended daily amount based on the horse’s grain intake, forage source, and bodyweight. It needs to be fed at different dose rates depending on these variables, and can be fed at higher levels during 'at risk’ periods. For best results, divide the recommended daily amount equally between grain meals. 1 scoop = 30 g. FEEDING INSTRUCTIONS

Nano-E
®
NATURAL VITAMIN E SUPPLEMENT
E-Max Ester & Nano-E are natural organic sources of Vitamin E. They have superior bioavailability compared with the commonly used synthetic versions, being more highly digestible and preferentially metabolised by the horse. Moreover, this natural form of Vitamin E is retained in tissues for longer periods of time, creating a reservoir that allows it to be instantly available when the horse most needs it, namely in times of stress or during periods of confinement. Vitamin E contributes richly to the wellbeing of the horse and plays an imperative role in immune, cardiovascular, circulatory and reproductive functions. In addition, Vitamin E is an essential component of bodywide antioxidant defences. During Confinement Horses that do not have access to pasture may not be consuming optimal levels of vitamin E. Nano-E provides this essential vitamin in a form that is easily absorbed, and is appropriate for horses of all ages that are stabled due to training schedules, travel, or injury.

NATURAL Vs SYNTHETIC VITAMIN E - THE SOURCE MATTERS Recent studies by Kentucky Equine 2.5 Research have shown that the form 2.0 and source of Vitamin E do make a difference to horses. E-Max Ester 1.5 & Nano-E are both revolutionary natural supplements that provide 1.0 unsurpassed Vitamin E nutrition to horses of all ages. Differences in relative bioavailability of various vitamin E sources. Nano-E™ is more bioavailable than other common sources of vitamin E. Synthetic bioavailability equals 1.
For Performance Horses asked to work strenuously can benefit from the strategic supplementation of Nano-E. A regular schedule of training and racing makes racehorses susceptible to muscle damage, which is due largely to oxidative stress. Nano-E provides fast-acting antioxidant protection for hard-working horses that can be timed to provide peak protection. Research Confirms Efficacy Recent studies have looked at serum and muscle levels of natural Vitamin E in horses fed Nano-E over a 6 week period. The results of this study show that high levels of water dispersible natural vitamin E can increase α-tocopherol levels in the muscle of deficient horses.
Each water-soluble vitamin E nanoparticle in Nano•E is encapsulated or surrounded by liposomes, which allows the nanoparticle to mix evenly throughout a water-based environment, such as the gastrointestinal tract.

Supplementation of 5,000 IU of nano dispersed natural α-tocopherol (KERx Nano-E) was provided in the morning feed 5 days a week. Serum concentrations of vitamin E increased significantly by two fold (p= 0.0037) and muscle concentrations increased by over 3 fold (p=0.05).
RECOMMENDED FEEDING LEVELS OF NANO-E™
• Maintenance levels for stabled horses without access to good grazing 4 – 8 ml per day (1000 – 2000 iu) • Pre-race loading - give 12-20 ml 6-12 hours prior to a race, during long distance travelling or leading up to a stressful event Nano-E is available in 450-ml and 3.8 litre bottles containing a minimum of 250 iu per ml of Vitamin E as d-alpha-tocopherol. Nano-E should be administered orally or top-dressed onto dry feeds at the time of feeding. For best results, the supplement should be fed soon after removal from the bottle.
Duraplex
ÂŽ
BONE MINERALISATION SUPPLEMENT Figure 1
DuraPlex is a proprietary blend of specific proteins, minerals and vitamins scientifically proven to reduce bone demineralisation, and to support bone mineral density and bone area. Studies at Kentucky Equine Research showed positive changes in bone quality after just one month of supplementation. DuraPlex was also shown to prevent the natural demineralisation that occurs when access to free-choice exercise is restricted, such as when young horses enter a training environment. Total confinement in stables during box rest due to injury, or after surgery, can lead to bone demineralisation and a reduction in bone density. DuraPlex supplementation helps to lessen the loss.
Figure 2
FEATURES AND BENEFITS > A special protein source stimulates bone collagen production, supporting bone density and maintaining bone area > Helps maintain healthy bone metabolism, tissue, and structure in performance horses > Supports bone quality at high-risk times, such as > when young horses enter race training > Prevents bone loss at times when bone naturally > demineralises - when limited or no turnout is available, including during box rest due to injury > Provides specialised postsurgical nutritional support DuraPlex positively impacts orthopaedic tissues so they possess greater ability to withstand training. Using radiographic photometry (Figure 1), a sensitive and noninvasive method of monitoring change in bone mineral content, KER observed bone changes in a group of growing Thoroughbred horses that were exercised and unexercised. Two-year-old Thoroughbreds supplemented with DuraPlex and given access to daily turnout but no formal exercise showed greater bone growth and bone mineral content (Figure 2) than control horses. Among the exercised horses, DuraPlex-supplemented horses showed less demineralisation than control horses (Figure 3). FEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS: Top-dress on feed. For the support of optimal bone health, feed 60 g per day. For horses in need of additional support, feed 120 g per day. For best results, divide evenly between feeds.

Synovate HA
®
JOINT HEALTH SUPPLEMENT
Equine athletes are prone to injury. Certain injuries happen quickly, but others are a result of cumulative wear and tear. Hyaluronic acid (HA) plays a vital role in maintaining the health of connective tissue and optimizing normal joint function. Synovate HA may assist with supporting equine athletes through the rigours of training. Synovate HA provides horses with a safe, easily absorbed, and easyto-use form of sodium hyaluronate. The core ingredient, HA, is a naturally occurring substance found in various connective tissues in the horse’s body. HA contributes significantly to the maintenance of cartilage health and elasticity, joint fluid viscoelasticity, and lubrication of the entire joint mechanism. Naturally occurring HA is one of the body’s own natural defence mechanisms in the joint fluid. Athletic demands on the horse reduce the natural reservoir in the joint capsule, which leads to reduced viscoelasticity in the joint fluid, so affecting joint function. Proactive supplementation with Synovate HA helps maintain the levels of this important natural joint defence mediator.

Bio•Bloom PS is a dual-action supplement designed to support and maintain healthy skin, coat, and hoof condition from the inside out.
FEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS: Top-dress on feed. Feed 30 g to 60 g per day. A 30 g scoop is included. Feed 60 g per day for coat conditioning, or when additional support is desired.
Superior Biological Activity Researchers have identified differences in biological activities for HA of different molecular weights. HA with a high molecular weight (more than 500,000 daltons) has the greatest biological response. Further, high molecular weight HA created from microbial fermentation, such as Synovate HA, has the greatest likelihood for matching the known attributes of native HA found in the horse’s body.

Restore SR ÂŽ
SLOW-RELEASE ELECTROLYTE
Restore SR contains the latest technology in electrolyte therapy, including a proprietary slow-release mechanism that allows sodium to be released gradually into the gastrointestinal tract for sustained absorption. Feeding a concentrated electrolyte causes an immediate surge in blood electrolyte levels, but a concentrated amount also stimulates increased excretion of electrolytes, flushing out the electrolytes that have just been fed. When sodium is delivered slowly over a period of time, it is fully absorbed and utilised by the body. Restore SR helps horses to retain the electrolytes provided so they can replenish their reserves in the most optimal manner—slowly. FEATURES AND BENEFITS > Slowly delivers sodium and other key electrolytes such as chloride, potassium, and magnesium to replace what was lost in sweat > May reduce the risk of conditions such as muscular weakness, overheating, tiredness, and poor performance > Sugar-free formula

FEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS: Adjust feeding levels according to sweat loss and work intensity. Divide daily amount fed equally among meals and mix well. Feed Restore SR after racing, workdays, after travelling, or in any situation in which the horse has sweated. In addition to Restore SR, all horses should have free-choice access to a salt block and water. The following recommendations are for horses with a mature body weight of 500 kg, and should be adjusted accordingly.

Saracen Horse Feeds is committed to seeing groundbreaking research through to its practical application; thus guaranteeing a lead over the competition, and giving its customers an edge over theirs.
Quality Statement Every bag of Saracen feed is manufactured in a UFAS accredited mill and undergoes strictly documented quality control procedures. A comprehensive system is in place to ensure the consistency and quality of all products manufactured by Saracen Horse Feeds for equine use. The adopted quality system is the AIC (Agricultural Industries Confederation) Universal Feed Assurance Scheme. The quality system in place is structured in a logical manner that follows established HACCP (Hazard Analysis And Critical Control Points) to identify potential nutritional, microbial or physical hazards. Controls are applied to each area of the company’s activities where performance can have an impact on finished product quality. > Design and maintenance of manufacturing sites and plant > Quality control > Storage of both raw materials and finished product > Selection of feed ingredients > Manufacturing principles > Loading, transport and delivery > Personnel & training > Documentation Written procedures are included in the quality system in accordance with the AIC Feed Assurance Scheme, and these quality records form an important part of it. The records include information on product and raw material specifications, raw material and finished product test results, and testing procedures for the presence of naturally occurring contaminants, which are considered prohibited by the equine regulatory authorities. To ensure that the company continually meet the requirements of the UFAS scheme, internal audits are carried out on a regular basis covering all aspects of the business and an independent audit is carried out on an annual basis. Saracen Horse Feeds joined the code of practice for feed manufacturers that the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) put in place on 1st October 2009. The Universal Feed Assurance Scheme (UFAS), Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances (NOPS) Code has been developed by BETA in response to the increased incidence of positive dope tests in racehorses. The NOPS scheme, whilst not a guarantee, is a risk-assessment based approach to reducing the chance of feed being contaminated with naturally occurring prohibited substances, such as morphine, for example. Both the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and the National Trainers Federation (NTF) have endorsed the BETA NOPS Code, which sits alongside our UFAS annual audit. As an approved member of the new code, we use the logo like a kitemark, a sign of reassurance to owners and trainers of the stringent quality management procedures that have been undertaken during every step of the sourcing, storage, transport and manufacturing processes for each product.
