The Experience Working at Integrated Design Solutions taught me the foundations of a larger firm. Each person contributed a different set of knowledge and experience to my time as an intern. I was given opportunities to learn and grow in any way that I wished to push myself. Getting involved in a variety of projects helped me realize more of my interests in architecture dealing with educational projects. This experience has helped me confirm and deny the things that interest me, and the people I worked with served a diverse source of learning while I was working at IDS.
Technical Knowledge Experience with original drawings and corresponding with structural drawings as well as later additions.
Team Work Meetings and corresponding with co-workers to have clear direction of the project.
Program Production Working in Revit, Autocad, and Sketch-up while being trained in Lumion. Coordinating with BIM administrator.
The Skills Growing is an important part of every internship. It is a continuing education process that really helps for concepts and ideas over viewed in school to fall into place. I have a deeper understanding of Revit and its capabilities. How different structures function and common building constructions from different time periods also were gained during this experience. Instead of opting for the choice that I think most people are found of, design, I decided to work on my weaknesses. I accomplished this by working on many asbuilts, old documents, and Revit modeling existing structure and details.
Accuracy Double checking work, and better understanding how programs work and predicting future work needs.
Construction Assembly Learning rules and standards of construction and implementing future designs.
Communication With better understanding of construction, I have been able to better communicate about the building parts and speak more clearly and accurately.
The Projects I primarily worked on as-builts, but was excited to get into some interior design furniture layouts, family building, and working within design options and new work for educational facilities. I had the opportunity to work a lot with structure, but also topography and site context as well. I was involved in a variety of projects from schools, to commercial and residential to even religious projects. In here are only a selected group of projects that I worked on, I have a lot of work with structure and modeling that I left out, but all projects that I worked on involved my contribution to its structure as well.
Educational One of my favorite building types that I worked on. I worked on high schools and universities, both additions and renovations.
Residential I worked on a residential project that is being repurposed for commercial use.
Religious I also worked on a religious project that involves an addition to the church.
