In Chinese “Hai-gue” means both “coming home” and “turtle.”

The Green Turtle is an endangered species. There are only 200,000 spawning female turtles in the world. In most of the places, the number of Green Turtles is decreasing and their habitats are constantly disappearing.

I divided 100 light balls to five sections, each section had 20 light balls. At the beginning, all the light balls will glow together. Then in every 10 seconds, a section of light balls would be extinguished. The prosses repeats until all the light balls are extinguished. The extinguishment of light balls means the number of turtles is decreasing. The turtle will disappear if people continue to destroy the environment.

I used modeling clay to shape turtle eggs. Next, I used wax to mold. The wax solidifies faster when it is soaked in cold water. After that, I poured wax into the mold, and soaked the mold into cold water. Then I spinned the mold in the water to keep only the outer layer of wax. As a result, the turtle eggs I made would not be too heavy and the transparency was also good.

Some body parts of many animals are seen as rare treasures by human. So many of these innocent animals are deprived of their lives by poachers. Poaching will not only endanger the lives of animals, but also endanger the ecological environment.

I used modeling clay to shape rhino’s head. Next, I used silicone rubber to mold. After that, I poured wax into the mold, and soaked the mold into cold water. What is so special about this work was that I use plaster to mold the rhino’s horn which won’t melt by the heat. When it is all done, I used heat gun to melt the wax. I used camera to record the prosses. When all the wax is melted, only the plaster part that is, the rhino’s horn will remain.

I would like to compare the prosses to the dying of an animal. The burning of the wax symbolizes that the precious life of the animal was taken by humane cruelly. What was left behind was only the horn.

Firefly

- 2017/12 - wax - 110×100×30cm

22

23

In recent years, the number of fireflies in our country is declining. The reason is urbanization and land development. Because of these reason, the habitat and ecology of fireflies has been impacted.

24

25

Following the model of the turtle’s egg from my previous work, I added phosphor powder into wax and stirred until they became completely blended. After that, I poured wax into the mold, and soaked the mold into cold water. Then I spinned the mold in the water to keep only the outer layer of wax. The balls will glow in the darkness.

26

27

I put balls into different sizes of bottles. When people turn off the light, they will only see the balls glowing. This means that without humans disturbing, the fireflies can live freely and happily. But when you turn on the light, the balls will stop glowing, which represent that these trapped fireflies cannot live long and can’t reproduce. This work is to remind people that behavior of catching them would cost the lives of the fireflies.

Oil spill will bring lots of damage to environment and the ecosystem. Oil contamination will cause many harms to the marine creatures and even death.

I use tin as my material because it has low melting point. I put agate stone in the center to symbolize the animal victims. The tin surrounding the agate stone represents the crude oil, which stuck and trapped the animals.

My works are talking about animal ecology and protection. So, this is thinking from Pangea. Beginning from the initial when all the animal is on the same land.
