Dear Phoenix Fans and Guests, This year’s theme for Gordon County Schools is all about going the second mile- doing more than the minimum or what is expected. What better way to illustrate that theme than with the work that happens on the field and in the stands at The Furnace? The pride of the Phoenix Nation is evident through the willingness of its students, faculty, parents, and community members to make that extra effort in support of all that makes Sonoraville High School great. Thank you for coming out and supporting our students and coaches during what promises to be an exciting 2017 football season! To guests of the Phoenix Nation, I welcome you. I am confident that you will find Sonoraville High School to be both a gracious host and a formidable opponent, always willing to go the second mile. #GC2ndMile GO PHOENIX! Dr. Susan Remillard Superintendent “A Learning Community Actively Pursuing a Higher Standard of Excellence” Hello Phoenix Nation!!! It is with great excitement that we start this 2017 season of Sonoraville High School football. Our Phoenix football players have completed the most grueling and competitive summer camp in recent memory. Coach Pate and the assistant coaches committed to challenge our boys to grow and mature into young men. Many new challenges have been placed before the young men on the field tonight as they have prepared for success this season. The commitment is evident and we hope for the best each Friday night as the hard hitting Phoenix take the field. Our Spirit and Competition Squad Cheerleaders, under the direction of new Coach Ginger Reeves, has dedicated many hours to make this night a true community event. During the school year and most of this summer many of our young ladies have dedicated time to exercise, develop skills, and practice in the hot summer sun to perfect cheers that will keep the crowd excited.
competitions.
Additionally, the young ladies have made a commitment to bring back our Competition Cheerleading Squad for 2017. Coach Reeves has a long history of success in the cheerleading arena and the ladies have committed to excellence this year. Please mark your calendars and support SHS Cheer at this year’s
Our fans will see a much larger and improved performance from our marching band. Mr. Justin Burke, Director of Bands, along with Mrs. Heather Roberts and Mrs. Katie Farley have worked with great diligence to grow the participation, sound and precision of each member of the 2017-2018 marching band. This group was also challenged with a very spirited two week camp this summer. We are proud of their growth and commitment to become a special group. The leadership team for this year’s marching band also spent many days leading their sections to grow and improve on a daily basis. We hope you enjoy tonight’s performance and the band will be competing many times this year at events so come and support them in their quest for SUPERIOR RATINGS this season. As our student-athletes learn the life lessons of dedication and commitment, it is important that the lessons learned from extracurricular activities be reinforced with committed support from fans. Fan support for our football team, band, and cheerleaders is vital to the growth and maturity of our young people. Your interest, sponsorship, and investment with the purchase of this program will help to produce well rounded young men and women who work to develop character and integrity through competition each day. The lessons learned in competition today will serve each athlete moving into the next phase of life. Developing a drive to succeed in our students will only influence our community in a positive manner. I would like to recognize this year’s Athletic Boosters and Band Boosters. Both organizations have made a concerted effort to improve our programs and facilities. Our community support has been phenomenal over the past few years and this season is a great example of that growth. The stadium has been upgraded with new fencing and an awesome digital scoreboard. Many sponsors and supporters have made these upgrades possible and I encourage everyone to support these sponsors with your financial assistance and purchases of products from each vendor listed tonight. The Athletic and Band Boosters work hard to provide the best for our students and for this we are grateful. We appreciate all they are doing and will continue to do for our athletic and band programs. I strongly encourage each of you as community members to support each booster club and continue our march for success. Dr. Remillard has challenged us to, “Go the 2nd Mile” and strive for excellence. Let’s Rise Up Phoenix Nation! and go the 2nd mile! #GCS2ndMile Go Phoenix!! Respectfully, R. Bruce Potts Principal
