P O R T F O L I O
SARAH PARKS I am currently a senior in the Interior Design program at Anderson University in South Carolina and am seeking a job upon graduation in May, 2016. As a designer I will be able to apply the knowledge and skills that I have learned at Anderson University. I am proficient in hand drafting and rendering, SketchUp Trimble, Photoshop, InDesign, AutoCAD 2014, and Revit 2015. I have always liked hand drafting, but the addition of these programs has made design work through residential and commercial more enjoyable and multi-faceted. The thing that I enjoyed most about using these programs was the ability to easily collaborate with other designers to achieve designs that were successfully executed. I would be delighted to work in an environment where I can grow, learn, and give back. I welcome the opportunity to discuss the specifications of my portfolio with you.

Design Philosophy “Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God.” -Leo Buscaglia
Design is based around people. Creating spaces that help people and ultimately contribute to
the everyday person’s health and well-being. The conceptual design process and spatial relationships associated with design are intriguing and constantly challenge my analytical mind to new heights and depths of design. I strive to incorporate research based design into every space I work with - continuing to investigate, study, and explore new avenues of design through knowledge and data. I believe in sustainability and the impact it has on the design world and the ecology of the world around us. Sustainability and research based design are two factors that define me as a designer.
Design is primarily for the well-being of people and secondly for their enjoyment and aesthetic
appeal. My experiences with projects in the past is that research is the basis for all good design and that informed interior designers are always more successful than those who design with only looks in mind. When I transition from school into the professional sector, I will incorporate sustainability in every aspect of my life and especially in the design realm. Interior Design is more than just decorating; it changes experience. It changes personal perspective. It changes feeling. It changes social construct. Design changes the surrounding environment.
Design is meant for everyone to enjoy and therefore design must be made for everyone in mind.
Whether they be unable to traverse the building (Mobility Impaired) or if their communication is broken because of design (The Deaf Community). Design is also a great way to incorporate a multi-cultural

design aesthetic to encourage communities to accept differing views and cultures.

REACH Philosophy
ASID Carolinas Chapter Otto Zenke Competition Project Reach in
Reach out
Reach up
REACH Wellness Facility focuses on total health which includes physical health and mental wellness. Mental wellness aids in patient physical health improvements and also envourages communication between patients.
After reaching IN and understanding themselves as individuals, patients are encouraged to reach OUT to others as part of their wellness regime. Helping others increases endorphines and brain function in patients, as well as aiding others in the process.
By helping others, more connections are made locally and around the world. Through these connections, friends and support groups are created. These world-wide communities are able to constantly build each other UP. As REACH Health and Wellness Center improves upon total wellness, they are able to REACH UP and aspire to new future goals.

Shared Spaces: Portland, IDEC Competition Project Buildings and Energy
Urban Forest
Climate Change
Community
Be renovating old construction and creating sustainable and ecologically sound new construction, Shared spaces Portland will incorporate systems that will limit carbon emissions. This will cause Portland to flourish as an international leader in lowering the urban heat island effect. By teaching the community about the heat island effect. Shared Spaces will be able to incorporate Portland’s 2030 Climate Action Plan while simultaneously weaving the community and surrounding neighborhoos together to produce renewable resources and achieve zero-net carbon emissions in all new construction.
The implementation of the 2030 Portland Climate Action Plan will emphasize sequestering carbon through the increase the natural elements and green infrastructure. Designing with nature through urban dwesign, and redevelopment approaches to architecture and interior design like adopting ecoroofs, and assimilating vegetation into design, Shared Spaces Portland will aid in community health and exological well-being.
The heat island effect is continuously creating a detrimental health issue that may spread from urban heat islands to surrounding suburban and rural communities. Reducing the carbon emission of major cities like Portland may aid in the lowering of heat and subsequently reducing risks and impacts from heat, drought, and wildfire. By joining the community with an international school, The Art Institute. Shared Spaces will implement Portland’s Climate Plan World Wide ultimately changing the cliate and aid in the universality of international sustainable communities.
By informing communities about the development and implementation of climate change issues by incorporating educational aspects as well as meeting opportunities, the Shared Spaces of Portland Oregon will enrich surrounding neightborhoods to foster commitment to Shared Spaces. Accessibilities for under-represented and under-served populations will be created through making available some ot the most cost-effective, healthy, and easy sollutions.

Manual Graphics Manual Graphics has proven itself extremely useful in the area of design. In my internship, as well as past jobs, sketching out ideas and visualizing spaces to clients has been extremely helpful in their understanding of final product possiblities. Hand drafting is still one of my favorite parts of interior design. The precision and detail oriented thought required to produce contract drawings is one skill that should be necessary for every designer. My chosen media is marker rendering and it propelled me through the possibilities of truly exemplifying spaces through different types of media including graphite, pencil, and eventually water color.

CREATIVE WORKS
Creative Works With the addition of an art minor I have been able to expand my creative side. Utilizing the skills in both ceramics and painting courses I have been able to explore new mediums and skill sets that have added to my artistic foundation. Ceramics has taught me to see 3D objects differently and to appreciate the value of hand-made pieces of art. Painting has really aided me in determining value and seeing color ranges throughout material selections.
