Employers Beware: How the National Labor Relations Board Has Changed the Legal Rules in Union and Non-Union Workplaces Many union-free employers incorrectly assume the work of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) applies only to workplaces with unions. While employers with unions incorrectly assume that once in compliance, always in compliance with the NLRB. This workshop will debunk both of these assumptions and explain how the NLRB is hard at work safeguarding employee rights. Agenda: ~ New NLRB Poster: Employers are required to post a new employment poster that notifies employees of their rights under the National Labor Relations Act before January 31, 2012. ~ NLRB Rules: The NLRB issues required guidelines to employers which safeguard employee rights to organize and to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative. ~ NLRB Decisions: The NLRB investigates claims of unfair labor practices which interfere with employee rights to join together to improve their wages and working conditions. ~ Employee Relations Strategies: Positive employee relations strategies protect employers from violating NLRB rules and decisions and enhance the odds of having a satisfied, productive workforce. Attendees will gain new insights into: ~ how the new NLRB employment poster changes the workplace landscape, ~ how recent and anticipated NLRB rules are limiting employer options in response to organizing attempts by unions, ~ how recent NLRB decisions are limiting employer options in response to employee postings on social media, and ~ why positive employee relations strategies are a necessity in any workplace. This workshop will be presented by Joel E. Abrahamson, Attorney with Leonard, Street and Deinard Professional Association, moderated by Kari Rosand Scanlon, Principal Consultant with Spotlight HR Solutions, and sponsored by the Hermantown Chamber of Commerce and Solutions Insurance Agencies. Please RSVP to Kari at seminars@solutionsagencies.com by Friday, December 2. Tuesday, December 6 2:00PM to 3:30PM Hermantown Area Chamber of Commerce 5094 Miller Trunk Hwy.
