Once occupied by Japanese and Russian settlements, the city of Dalian historically and presently has faced many changes. Today it serves as an important international shipping center and logistics hub in Northeast Asia. In this project Dalian like many upcoming cities in China, has been conceptualized to embrace a vision of a modern Chinese residential community within today’s hyper-urbanized context. Initially the studio investigated Chinese urban typologies, and generated a cross-comparative urban analysis for a spectrum of cities worldwide to later consider the concept of urban habitation at a more compact and personal scale of housing and home. The urban block was envisioned into a super-block that consist of a mix-used program containing retail, shopping galleries, residential and offices, and a conditioned historic school building into an art + design gallery. This commercial hub generates a link between a primary and secondary traffic arteries carrying bus and subsequently pedestrian traffic.

Located in Otlmarschen district of Hamburg, Germany, The Music School Addition is a renovation project that challenges the detailed representation and programmatic difficulties of a comprehensive studio. An existing 25,000 square foot palatial house was to be renewed into a music school with supplement facilities in juxtaposition. The big idea behind the design involves the notion of tension: any sort of sound experienced is pressure on an individual’s ear. The historical, all white, modernist villa is meshed by a red dynamic & contemporary free form addition, housing a dense program that includes administration & faculty, practice facilities, studios, mechanical, concert hall, library and café. An emphasis on acoustics, circulation, materials, and climatic issues were the driven forces of approach to the project. Visible when approaching the site from the Elbe water body and surrounding areas, the music school addition’s red double-channeled glass façade clipped in stainless steel, became an icon for Hamburg.

With our experiences in Florence as a group and as individuals coming from North America during our semester abroad, one has notice that a strong social and environmental experience has been compromised due to a division between the north and the south of the city. The Arno River stands as a physical barrier that can be reconsidered as a place for human activity. It plays an important role in order to establish laces between different visions and relations, and between cultures and social processes. A new bridge serves as the mediator to promote the exchange of experiences through video and film observation and discussion, and of transformation at a centralized local level. Green areas and parks were not a concern at the time of city development, as a result there is a lack of openly gratuitous green spaces available in either side of the river. A green park is Image TD ’s complimentary to the city, offering a space for a memorable and pleasant experience and at the same time one can elect to participate in projecting spaces at leisure. In this manner the use of vegetation in a connecting vein challenges the ambience and exhibition of film and strengths nearby local processes at the open piazzas.

Located in Jyvaskyla, Finland, a new library participates in Kirkko Park along with Kirkko Church, city hall, city theater, police department and other public functions. In a corner condition, the library building directs its attention towards the Kirkko Church and continues the neighboring fabric as it joins with the context. A spine diagonally splits the building into two, separating leisure and library functions, however it visually stitches both sides through the carving of the circulation at the core. In this library experience light emerges as an important player. It penetrates through a central void, faรงade slippages, and from the inside out through the circulatory core.
