In November of 2010

4

A couple of Communication sophomores of the Ateneo decided to take a basic TV production class. From there, they found great joy in producing a variety of videos together.

Eventually, they began extending their reach to competitions like De la Salle University's Indie Un-Film, Thunderbird Resorts, and I Love Fish.

20

That was also when the Mustachio kids expanded their group since much time is spent producing and also enjoying the company of friends.

When the school year began in 2011, many organizations sought the help of their help and so additional members also came in.

They create a variety of outputs such as AVPs, music videos, teasers, short documentaries, instructional videos, and short films. They are currently affiliated with the Ateneo’s Sanggunian as their official production team.

Mustachio Productions

42

A group of undergrads studying in the Ateneo de Manila University. We love to make videos, cover events, and spew creative juices on a regular basis. We have big dreams and like making them a reality. We also make shorts and music videos just for kicks. Work for us is definitely play! We like going on roadtrips, talking about boys over mugs of hot cocoa and braiding each other’s hair.

43

MISSION VISION

44

We are the free outlets of every mind--we turn little ideas into visual electricity. We aim to be a group of individuals who work together for a greater cause. We aim to make a difference in--if not be a part of--the production industry in creating a high quality of output without sacrificing the heart and soul of its creators.

“My expressions are severly misplaced. I wink sporadically like a disease, and I have a habit of talking to myself in a soft whisper. Overall, I think I’m pretty normal.”

47

48

“I love it [Mustachio] because it’s a group of crazies thrown together in one group. We come up with the best videos when it’s unscripted. I love that I’m friends with everyone, and we could have bacon parties even without a shoot. But mostly the bacon. I love the bacon.” 49

Documentation & Publication, Production Manager

52

“I primarily describe myself as a dancer, but that I also make videos. Filmmaking doesn’t come naturally to me, but I am learning. Writing is my true love, and I hope to see one of my screenplays or short stories come to life, but in the meantime, I’m having fun learning how to edit videos well. These are the things that will stay with me long after I can no longer dance.”

53

“Mustachio Productions is a family of filmmakers. We’re brought together by the mutual love for the fun of making films. What I love about it is that it never seems to feel like work because we always have fun during our shoots. It doesn’t matter how late it is or how much we have to do the next day. While we’re shooting, we forget all about everything outside the shoot.”

Finance, Cinematographer

58

“Mustachio Prod[uctions] is everything my sister described to me when I first entered college seven years ago.

59

Production Manager, Public Relations Officer

60

“A 20-year old Communications major who grew up in the Middle East. Is into photography and video production, and is hoping to establish a career in the filmmaking industry abroad one day. Started out as an editor in the group, but has since then given other roles a try, including directing and cinematography. Her favorite parts in films are usually the music and the dialogue. During the early days when the group had been established but still had no name, she suggested the name Mustachio, inspired by the fact that one of the group members had gone out of the country and brought back stick-on mustaches for each of the members. 61

62

“Mustachio Productions is basically a group of people, of friends, trying to make a common dream come true. Starting out as a group that knew only a couple of production tricks, together we have grown into a versatile couple of individuals within the group. Most know how to direct, handle a camera, and do basic editing. There’s nothing better than making your dreams come true with your best buddies, one video at a time. More than continuously growing skills, Mustachio has heart. And because of this, every accomplishment feels so much more special, more worth it.”

63

Writer, Production Manager, Person Who Complains A Lot

64

“I like to think I can write, and on most days, I fool people into thinking I actually can.

65

“Mustachio is a lot of things to me. Sometimes, it’s pure work and a huge pain in the ass, but most of the time, it’s what keeps me sane.”

66

67

Production Designer, Voice Actor

68

“Who am I? Sometimes I ask myself that same question. But if I had an answer, it would be ‘Batman’.” 69

70

“Joining Mustachio meant that I could finally stop talking to myself every Friday night.

71

Director

72

“Patis is a person who thinks too much. She is mainly the one who spearheads putting ideas together and making them visual. Her interest in production began when she created her first short film, Clover, with a couple of friends. Before that moment, her career was headed towards journalism. She found greater creative satisfaction in film making and video production. If she is not directing, she is either the cinematographer, writer, or grip. She is fond of undressing minds with her eyes.

73

74

“In Mustachio, work is definitely play. We usually spend sleepless nights together to shoot, edit, and even dub videos and it’s no less than fulfilling. In between the bonecrunching work are moments enjoyed with the people we love.”

77

Technical Director

78

“As Mustachio Productions’ Technical Director, EJ lights the place up (literally). EJ’s love for Production started out as a stage play writer and a stage director in PAREF Southridge. However, it was in college and in Mustachio that his love for Production shifted towards making films, music videos and the like. Though his role in Mustachio is primarily as the Technical Director, he has taken on tasks as a Director, an Assistant Director, and an Assistant Director of Photography.”

79

“Working in and with Mustachio Productions has truly been the highlight of my college life so far. Though most shoots last for hours on end, coupled in with the fatigue and stress of planning and executing said shoots, I know that it’ll all be worth it when the final product comes out and I see our names in the credits. It really is a great blessing to do what you love doing, and doing so with your good friends. What more could I currently ask for (besides cracking into the Dean’s List)?”

Public Relations

82

“Georgia’s love of theater sparked her interest in the screen arts the moment she signed up for a basic TV and film production course in the Ateneo. She was already familiar with the workings of theater, and while TV and film production is a wholly different field, the core purpose – that of storytelling – still remains to be the same. It is from that purpose that her passion for the screen arts is fuelled.”
