Dear Bud and Betty,
We are absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to honor both of you at this year's Gala. Your unwavering passion and incredible generosity have truly been instrumental in guiding us towards a brighter future. We are immensely grateful for all that you have done, and continue to do, for The Sarasota Ballet.
Tonight's Gala is an opportunity for us to come together and recognize the immense impact you have in our community.
Thank you for your tireless efforts and for being an inspiration to all of us. We raise our glasses to you, Bud and Betty, for being true champions of The Sarasota Ballet.
With all our love, Iain, Joseph, Margaret, and Your Sarasota Ballet Family
Iain Webb Director
I would like to welcome you to the 2023 – 2024 Season Gala honoring Bud and Betty Shapiro. On behalf of all of us at The Sarasota Ballet, I would like to thank Bud and Betty for their enduring support over the years. Through tonight’s performance and Gala dinner, we honor their unwavering dedication to our mission, and we also celebrate the wondrous achievements of this Season and bright outlook for the future.
With our first international tour to London just a little over five weeks away, The Sarasota Ballet continues to develop its presence on the world stage of ballet, which allows us to solidify the foundation for exceptional programming for years to come. The talent of our dancers, their devotion to honing their artistry, and the beauty they create on the stage all combine to bring this incredible art form to life in such an organic way for our audiences. Working in partnership with Executive Director Joseph Volpe and Assistant Director Margaret Barbieri, we have crafted what we believe is another stunning Season of ballet in 2024 – 2025. We hope you will enjoy the world-class performances, unparalleled repertoire, and artistic excellence coming your way next Season.
Tonight, we also celebrate your commitment to The Sarasota Ballet, which helps us to positively impact future generations to ensure the legacy of ballet here in Sarasota and beyond for years to come through our education and community engagement initiatives. On behalf of our entire Company, including the leadership, talented dancers, and dedicated staff, I thank you for your continued support which makes what we all do possible. We look forward to welcoming you back to the theatre soon, and I hope you enjoy tonight’s specially curated performance as we commemorate the end of our 2023 – 2024 Season.

This year’s Gala performance features a very special appearance by students from Dance – The Next Generation, also known as DNG. The Sarasota Ballet’s original community engagement program, DNG provides a tuition-free dance education to underserved children in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. Operating after school, students in grades 3-12 are immersed in an inclusive, diverse, and well-rounded dance program including academic support, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities. Designed to nurture, enrich, and support the entire child by breaking down financial barriers and providing a supportive environment for children to thrive, DNG is making a meaningful impact to those often underrepresented in classical dance.
