NATIONAL GRID ELECTRIC LIVE LINE DEMOS National Grid is proud to be back at the 2015 Saratoga County Fair to talk to our customers and the public about the importance of safety. We are bringing back our exciting electric live line demonstrations, where trained line workers use an electric system model and tools to entertain and educate visitors on how to be safe around power lines this summer. There will be multiple daily demonstrations to show how our electric network brings energy to communities, and provide important safety tips for anyone living or working near electric lines. National Grid is also bringing back the popular - and free - photo booth, and staff will be on hand to provide fair-goers with giveaways, important life-saving information, and answer questions about the company and services.
ANTIQUES & ANTIQUE MACHINERY Be sure to visit the displays in the Antiques building near the cattle barns. You will remember many items on display from the homes of your parents, grandparents and friends. Perhaps you have some undiscovered treasures in your own home. Last year, we were fortunate to have over 1200 items entered into over a thousand categories by residents of Saratoga County. There are household items, toys, tools, jewelry and many others too numerous to list. Be sure to see the miniature circus and train exhibits! Don Erlenbush and his wife June asked Antiques Ad Hocs Sarah and Bob Welch to join them for breakfast one Sunday eight or nine years ago. Fate brought them together and Sara and Bob invited him to show the work in the Antiques building. Don worked in the circus as a child, and he and his dad made the display pieces you will see in exhibit. Sarah still goes to breakfast every Sunday with them. Ribbons are awarded to many of the entries and four special ribbons for items the judges deemed as their favorite on display. Antique Machinery has moved! It is now located near Gate 3, adjacent to the Conservation Department displays. There is a very interesting display of old time tools and machinery including a large variety of tractors, saws, engines and other items.

ROSAIRE’S ROYAL RACING PIGS
DAILY SHOWS 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Infield West
Rosaire’s Royal Racers are billed as the “Ultimate in Racing Pigs”, and many families head straight for the infield to see them first once they enter the gates of the Saratoga County Fair. With daily post times and with all the prestige of the Kentucky Derby’s famous “run for the roses” but lots more fun, these “racing oinkers” are coming back for another year, sponsored by Froggy 100.3 and Ginsberg’s. Basic training for the pigs starts at the age of 4 to 5 weeks, and by the age of 7 weeks the piglets are ready to go on the road and race for their pig rooting audiences. According to the Rosaire family, pigs are very intelligent, easily trained, and really enjoy performing for audiences. The pigs travel in a specially equipped $30,000.00 trailer called the Porcine Palace. All training is done by a bait and reward system. Once the $100,000 oval aluminum track is set up, the racers are ready to begin. With the 10 minute call to post the people begin to gather and the excitement can be felt in the air. Cheerleaders, or “Pig Rooters” are picked out to represent each racing “athlete.” Pig rooters whose porkers cross the finish line first will receive prizes such as posters and bumper stickers. All shows lasting up to 30 minutes consist of 4 action packed racing events.

MASTERS OF THE CHAINSAW In 1992, Masters of the Chainsaw was formed to provide professional representation for chainsaw carvers in the business of carving performance art. The original founders of Masters of the Chainsaw are Steve Blanchard of Monterey, California, and Brian Ruth of Hartsville, Pennsylvania. The two sculptors met at the Winter National Chainsaw Carving Competition in Tampa, Florida. Brian took a first place and Steve took a second place. Having similar views on the art of chainsaw carving, a strong desire to have carvers represented correctly and need due to increasing demand for their skills two carvers made Masters of the Chainsaw official in November of 1992. Steve Blanchard would handle carvers on the West Coast and Brian would handle the East Coast. In 1995 due to increased demand at his full time studio and shop, Steve asked to be relieved of his duties to Masters of the Chainsaw and proprietorship went to Brian Ruth. His wife and partner, Jen has since teamed up with Brian. Together they continue to place the best artists at various events around the world. Masters of the Chainsaw main focus is the representation of only the finest professional chainsaw sculptors. The carvers they seek to represent are the very best performance chainsaw artists in the world, and their artistic ability and speed are not the only criteria they must meet to be one of Masters of the Chainsaw. They must be of the highest degree of professionalism and of a personable nature befitting their position.

GAIL MIRABELLA & THE DYNAMO DOGS Through performances with her canine team, Gail Mirabella not only entertains but also shows audiences how a happy and healthy relationship with a dog starts from within, beginning with a proper diet and exercise. Gail supports the belief that with a little time, patience and positive training, anyone can create a special bond with their dog. Gail began competing in canine flying disc competitions in 1996. She began putting on Frisbee® Dog shows in 1997, with her first dog Austin. She is the first and only woman from the Northeast that has ever won a regional event or qualified at either the Alpo Canine Disc World Championship or the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge Nationals. MOM WAS RIGHT– Wash your hands! Turns out, Mom was, and is, always right. The Saratoga County Fair, in order to provide a comfortable and safe environment, has additional hand sanitizer stations in primary areas at the fair to supplement bathroom sinks. Before eating the best fair food, please wash your hands. Petting of animals and contact with them are important parts of the agricultural experience at a fair, and we want to continue to provide the best experience to the fair public. E. coli 0157:H7, Salmonella, Campylobacter are animal-borne diseases which have been prominent in the news lately regarding fairs and petting zoos. Having farm and other animals available for interaction by our guests is what makes fairs different from amusement parks and festivals. Additionally we are requiring that, along with no smoking, all animal contact areas are “no eating” areas as well. The Fair, in cooperation with 4-H leaders, has established a Youth Ambassador group that will discuss proper handling of animals and stress proper hand washing after contact. They will have “walk around” hand washers who will offer a squirt of antibacterial lotion to fairgoers who wish to clean their hands. Gel stations are available in food areas as well as animal contact areas. This is just an extra method of assuring fair fun in the summer. Having a well-informed public is paramount to having a safe and happy time at the Saratoga County Fair.

“A LETTER FROM GINGER BOY”
By Andrea L’Hommedieu Mann Andrea L’Hommedieu Mann wove a tale in a children’s book for her grandchildren featuring her childhood memories of participating in the Saratoga County Fair. She and her illustrator, Carol Hall Quirk will be at the fair signing “A Letter from Ginger Boy: An Adirondack Horse Tale” on Saturday, July 25 from 10:30 to 12:00 noon and then 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Lewis Building. “A Letter from Ginger Boy” is a picture book for kids age four to nine. The illustrations feature Andy and her friend Gloria riding their horses to the fair from home because neither family owned a horse trailer. She shoes her horse, visits fair exhibits, samples fair food and has a marvelous fair week.
www.saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com
The Author, Andrea, really did ride her horse Ginger Boy from Greenfield Center to the Saratoga County Fairgrounds on Prospect Street the day before the Fair started and then rode him home at the end of Fair. “My family had a farm in Greenfield Center, and when I went away to 4-H camp, my father would write letters to me as if they were from my horse. When my parents passed, I came back to the farm and live there today.” Carol Hill Quirk, Illustrator, met Ms. Mann fifteen years ago and they have been friends ever since. Her beautiful watercolor illustration help the story come alive and showcases the fair logo, quilts, barns and more. Ms. Quirk resides in Schuylerville, NY.

JM Productions
DEMOLITION DERBY JM Productions, Inc. is a family entertainment industry specialist. They have been producing family entertainment from their office in Western New York for over 43 years. In 1963, W. Jay Milligan Sr. was asked to put on a demolition derby at the Erie County Fair in his hometown of Hamburg, NY (which is just south of Buffalo). He was then asked to produce demos at other fairs in the area. The success at these fairs brought about the incorporation of JM Productions. JM Productions, Inc. now produces over 60 motor sport events yearly. Events include “World’s Largest Demolition Derby®,” “Championship Figure 8 Racing®” and their patented “Stock Car Football®”. They have climbed the ladder to success to become the premier automotive events producer in the northeastern United States at county and state fairs. Jay Senior had a great career in the auto racing business prior to incorporating himself. He owned his own service station, raced stock cars, served in the Korean War, held the Race Director position at Lancaster Speedway, assisted in the production of major league auto racing from NASCAR to Indy by advising the announcers (Bill Flemming, Keith Jackson, Jim McKay and Al Michaels) what was about to happen during races.

NYTPA EVENT
Friday in the
GRANDSTAND The NYTPA event on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga County Fair features Super Stock Tractors and 2-Wheel Drive Trucks. The Two-Wheel Drive class is considered the funny cars of pulling. These wheel standers run with fiberglass S-10 Chevy bodies, Dodge Dakotas, Ford Super duties and 23 Ford T-buckets. You name it and they are running it. They are producing upwards of 2,500 horsepower, from after market engines such as a Keith Black Hemi and the Fontana Arias to more common BBF and BBC engines from Fords and Chevys. They are allowed up to 575 cubic inches and can use superchargers or turbos burning methanol for fuel. These machines all use slipper clutches with a gearbox. They have Rockwell rear ends with planetary gears. The Dick Cepeck tires can produce wheel speeds up to 80 mph. The maximum weight of the vehicle is 6,200 pounds and are allowed 15 feet from center of rear axle to furthest point forward of the cab and weight box. The Super Stock tractor class allows four different types of tractors in the same class. Weights and regulations make this class very competitive. Super Stocks weigh 8,500 lbs and are limited to three turbo stages and 30.5 x 32 tires. The alcohol Super Stocks limit is 504 cid and weigh in at 7,500 lbs. Don’t miss this exciting event at the Saratoga County Fair!
