In fact, our name Muuto, inspired by the Finnish word muutos, means new perspective. To us good design starts with the person. We handpick the brightest design talent and the leading contemporary designers in Scandinavia and give them the freedom to express their individual story through everyday objects. Some want to alter the world, others find passion in colour and shape and others still, draw deeply from personal experience. How do they see a vase, a lamp, a chair or any other everyday object? “Cover is from a desire to create a comfortable and contemporary armchair in wood. I aimed for a crisp and vivid expression in the plywood while looking for a solid and grounded look in the frame and base of the chair. Three years of play and hard work in the making has resulted in a light, yet strong armchair, playing and taking the molded veneer to its extreme.” MATERIAL Lacquered ash or oak veneer shell, formpressed wood veneer base. �The Danish simplicity and the iconic expression is combined with a classic perception of a solid barstool. The shape of Nerd barstool invites the user to sit on the stool from several angles, helped by the soft, curvy plywood shell. The low backrest of the barstool gives a pleasant support and comfort.�

“Our idea was to update the classic Scandinavian wood dining table. The design has obvious references to traditional Scandinavian furniture making but the choice of materials and detailing give the table it a new expression. Furthermore, we wanted to make the table adaptable to personal needs – with a choice of 2 different table tops, 3 frames and 3 types of legs there are 18 ways to create a personal and unique table.”

“The Elevated vase is about doing something exceptional for flowers. The wooden bowl holding the glass vase elevates the flowers, almost ritually, and frames them in a new Nordic poetic way. The materials are inspired by the flowers and branches I would put in the vase. The wood represent the roots in the soil and the glass the airy treetop, as it stands in nature. All together, creating a vase that combines a solid and rooted base with a light and divine top.”
