THEATRE CENTER

The theatre was always perceived as a is traditional-classical building with canon stage-box and bulky scenery. However presently the theatre quickly develops aside small forms and alternative decisions. There are modern statements and street representations. Unfortunately, the theatrical environment loses the communication with architectural. While, it seems to me, the architect should work in common with the director that the spectator could receive the purest impression of performance, instead of the form. That is, to aspire to the neutral form which would not stir to expansion of borders of theatre as action.

KEMPINSKI HOTEL IN MINSK

A complex of four 10-storey buildings is to be built in a picturesque setting on a bend in the River Svisloch. The three blocks overlooking the river will contain a hotel, short-stay apartments, and the kind of infrastructure that is appropriate for high-class hotel complexes (restaurants, a fitness centre, a conference centre). In the depths of the site there will be an office building whose glazed structure and refined meshed ornamentation will provide an attractive contrast with the more monumental style of the buildings alongside the river (the latter blocks will be lined with ribbed stone slabs). All four blocks will be linked by a shared underground space with car parks and ancillary facilities.

D1 DISTRICT IN SKOLKOVO

In accordance with the master plan concept of the Skolkovo innovation center initially developed by the French AREP Ville office, the innocity territory of Skolkovo is divided into several districts, and for detailed planning of each district two offices headed by architects – members of the Town-planning Counsil under the Skolkovo Fund were chosen. One of the districts, the “Southern” one or D-1, D-1 is to be supervised by the SPEECH office jointly with the David Chipperfield Architects. Architects The following architects are also involved in the developing of other districts and Skolkovo project in general: OMA; SANAA; Herzog& de Meuron; Stefano Boeri architetti; Project MEGANOM; Valode& Pistre; Mohsen Mostafavi; MDP/Michel Desvigne. The D-1 District is located on the southern border of the city and is separated from the main territory by a wide forest belt. belt Such isolation as well as combination of different functions on its territory: residential, office, cultural and children’s centers, gave the authors the idea of turning the district into a microcity with its own structure, nature of development, and unique atmosphere. Priority was given to the comfort of future inhabitants, reaching by creation of atmosphere and scale of small European city with houses, streets and squares various in architecture and its contact with the natural environment. As a result, the major part of the district is built up p with q quarters of interconnected with abutting g on each other separate p houses. The most compact development of 4-storey houses is concentrated along the Central Boulevard. Towards the outskirts the height of buildings lessens to 3-2 floors, the spaces between the quarters broaden, making small cozy squares that are gradually growing into the forest area appear.

Simultaneously with the D-1district development the work as a General Designer on Skolkovo urban planning took part. The SPEECH office won the contest for performing the functions of General Designer of the Skolkovo innovation city urban planning documentation. Together with the team of competent Russian and foreign specialized companies, companies such as Sweco, Sweco Waterman, Waterman Metropolis and others, others the SPEECH elaborated a documentation set including: a territory development design, a territory parcel plan, as well as some land-use and development recommendations for the Skolkovo Innovation Center. Thus, the Skolkovo masterplan concept was concretized in accordance with the clarified district layouts, Fund requirements and updated technical and regulatory requirements. This stage can be considered the key one in the city design development as it means a transfer from abstract modeling to the direct design of the innocity. innocity A great importance in work at the urban planning documentation was in its successful concordance with the LEED “Gold standards, according to which for the first time in Russia there will be constructed the innovation city Skolkovo.

HOUSING ESTATE “IN THE FOREST”

The housing estate “in the forest” is located in one of the prestigious districts of North Western Moscow area – the Krasnogorsk district, in the closest vicinity to Moscow Ring Road and to newly built subway station “Mitino”. On the square of 67 hectares they will place several residential quarters, attributed to the economy class, class a shopping and leisure centre, centre a church, church two schools and three kindergartens. kindergartens Population of the micro-district will be equal to 20,000 people. High housing density of the micro-district will be combined with the checked scale of buildings and residential quarters, with the properly elaborated transport system, with large green areas and with the individual concept of public areas. All the aforementioned developments taken in the complex will provide the inhabitants of the housing estate “In the forest” with the highest comfort and life quality comparable with residing in the best European apartment blocks and it will change the perception of the conception “Economy class residential real estate.“ It was very significant to find a few variants of the residential quarter layout for such a large-scale micro-district and, above all, for meeting such high requirements for the spatial and planning solutions. The ribbon building layout of the compact residential quarters with a lateral length not over 90 meters is taken as the base one. Moreover, the distance between the quarters will be equal to 30 meters. equa ete s. The eu underground de g ou d pa parking g will be co constructed st ucted u under de eac each residential es de t a qua quarter, te , which enables to avoid over-crowding of the cars on the by-apartment territory and in interquarter passages. Flat roofage of the parkings will be turned into the well-appointed green yards.

HOUSING ESTATE “IN THE FOREST” CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION AND FAÇADE DEVELOPMENT 2008 - 2017 Total area: 640 000 m2 Living area over1 200 000 m2 Non-residential area: 88 440 m2 Client: RGI International

The significant feature of architectural solution became the principle of individual design of each ribbon building. The facade of each building has its own author design in spite of several types of sections for the whole micro-district. Due to the original g facade techniques, q volumetric elements (bay windows, consoles and balconies) as well as to the active usage of various colours each residential quarter will get the original set of buildings integrally forming the unique ensemble. On the central axis of the micro-district, on both sides from the church there are the residential quarters with fundamentally different layout. In the Southern part there is the area with single point blocks to be square and round as per the plan and to stand on the common stylobate. To the North from the central square there is the residential quarter consisting of two lines of sectional buildings forming the symmetric enfilade of several yards, by their design stylistics, rather reminding the squares traditional for small European towns. The inner space of this quarter has been turned into the single pedestrian area.
