Key features and benefits for OMS 1400 include:

The OMS 1400 product family is ideal for application in numerous environments ranging from high capacity customer sites, fixed or mobile Radio Access Network (RAN) backhauling, an ideal migration solution enabling a fixed mobile converged network, or as a hub/head-end node.

The First product, OMS 1410 is available in a compact shelf, with 6 inter-changeable traffic modules that include 10/100Mb Ethernet, 1GE and 10GbE.

Carrier-grade availability and reliability Support a wide range of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) Scalability in-service up to 10GE with 80G of Ethernet switching. Easy and fast service provisioning Common ServiceON network management for OPEx efficiency High density (2RU) for space restricted applications (i.e. RAN) and optimum cost.

Applications

Flexible Deployment Options The OMS 1410 aggregate speeds ranging up to 2.5Gbit/s and 10GE, with SFP/XFP based interfaces for a wide range of Ethernet, TDM and C/DWDM rates. OMS 1410 is an ideal product for a Service Provider to groom and consolidate traffic from various sources in an Access/Metro network.

Multiple service delivery OMS 1400 product family is an Ethernet platform for grooming and transporting optical packet data and voice (TDM) traffic in a Metro Core Network. OMS 1400 enables the Service Provider to leverage legacy network investments by adding new services today (like Metro Ethernet Line and LAN services), alongside more traditional ones (like TDM leased lines or PBX connections) while at the same time preparing for the next migration step based on either Ethernet Provider Bridging(PB), Ethernet Provider Backbone Bridging (PBB) or IP/MPLS.

OMS 1410 is a full flexible product that can be configured either for pure TDM or pure Ethernet optical transport solution or a combination, including star, ring or point to point configurations. Ideally placed as ‘hubbing node’ or for leased line hubbing, the product will also be equally at home on high capacity customers premises.

Ethernet services in focus OMS 1410 addresses the fast transition from TDM to Ethernet services having a higher Ethernet than TDM switching capacity. OMS 1400 Ethernet Layer 2 switching solution is based on latest IEEE standard for Provider Bridging (PB) and Provider Back Bone Bridging (PBB).

OMS 1410 is an ideal solution for a Service Provider deploying new revenue generating services in less dense geographical areas up to dense business areas, for example as an aggregation device for multi-tenanted unit in a business park. Radio Access Networks In fixed and mobile radio access networks, OMS 1400 family ensures economical backhaul solutions, from an ultra-compact (2U) device with high density of 2Mbit/s (for today’s needs) or a 2 Mbit/s Circuit emulation Services (CES) and Ethernet interfaces (for tomorrow’s requirements). The electrical SFP line interfaces also reduce interfacing costs in the associated radio equipment.

The OMS 1400 enables the introduction of new carrier grade Ethernet services including policing mechanism that checks customer traffic in accordance with the SLA and performs the necessary handling including classification(via policing) into different bandwidth profiles or different line rates and priorities. Key Advantages Scalability and flexibility in design The OMS 1400 is a MultiService (Ethernet and TDM technology based) series for grooming and transporting of optical packet data and voice (TDM) traffic in a Metro Access Network. OMS 1410 can operate as a full Ethernet Layer 2 modular switch scaling from 20 to 80G and providing necessary tools required in a Service provider Ethernet access network. All ports support wire speed traffic provided that the WAN capacity can handle the traffic (switching between local ports do not require WAN capacities). The Layer 2 switch supports features such as: Prioritization and queuing, VLAN tagging, Provider Bridging, Ethernet OAM, Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol and Extended Ethernet frames (9K). In Ethernet topologies, PB allows for EVPL and EVPLAN that offers sharing of bandwidth for the best optimization of the fibre usage. The OMS 1400 product family also offers Circuit Emulation (CES) for E1/T1 over Ethernet. Advanced OAM functions are implemented according to ITU and IEEE standards. Alongside these techniques, new control and processes are introduced based on latest Provider Bridging (PB) and Provider Backbone Bridging technology (PBB) and PBB-TE (Traffic Engineering). Collectively these new standards solve network scalability, resilience issues and customer service transparency. The OMS 1400 series not only simplifies service creation in the Ethernet domain, but also adds new functionalities to existing TDM networks by Ethernet emulation over SDH/SONET supported by Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) (gives efficient mapping of Ethernet frames into SDH payloads (VCs)), Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) (gives flexibility to adjust bandwidth in service) and Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) (gives efficient use and allocation of network bandwidth).

Carrier Grade reliability and availability The carrier-class availability of the Marconi OMS 1400 node is secured by a robust redundant hardware (HW) and software (SW) concept. It starts with the system power distribution, the System controller functionality including HW and SW, self-control mechanism to ensure that the node operates accordingly. The Ethernet has several mechanisms to secure traffic by duplication of switching matrixes, SW protection, other standard Ethernet protections including Link aggregation and more advanced Traffic Engineering offered by PBB-TE and MPLS. For the Ethernet applications the underlying SDH/SONET transport mechanism ensures that delivery of Ethernet traffic is as dependable as a conventional telephone call. Tried and tested TDM protection mechanisms such as MSP 1+1, SNCP and LCAS are available alongside data/Ethernet mechanisms such as STP/RSTP/MSTP, Link Aggregation. In TDM topologies, the Virtual Concatenation allows the best use of network bandwidth by diversely routing traffic, whilst avoiding the need to upgrade intermediate nodes. In Ethernet topologies, PB allows for EVPL and EVPLAN that offers sharing of bandwidth for the best optimization of the fibre usage. Scalability and cost-efficiency OMS 1410 has been designed for best scalability and cost without compromising on available features. It has a fully non-blocking VC-12 crossconnect and a full duplex 80G Ethernet switch. OMS 1410 is implemented in a 2U box that provides high port density footprint. The Chassis itself provides for 8 plug-in modules with an aggregate capacity of up to 2x2.5Gbit/s (STM-16) or 2x10GE and 60xGE port capacity. Management Ericsson’s ServiceOn OSS solution manages the full Ericsson Broadband Network (Optical, Wireless and Broadband Access) product range, delivering end-to-end, best-in-class, service oriented management with seamless OSS integration.
