THE PURG HOUSE

The Purg House is a 3,000 sf home designed for an adventurous family looking to set down roots in Purgatory, Colorado, after traveling in a converted bus for the last few years. While living in the bus the couple collected two dogs, two kids and a cat, so they’re craving a little space! They want to maintain some aspects of tiny, nomadic living, within their somewhat spacious mountain home, so they are remaining “off grid” with their own water well, septic and energy production on the roughly 2 acre property. The site is special because of the ability to be off grid, while being within walking distance to a ski resort and hiking in public land right from their home. another fun aspect of this project is they’re doing most of the consruction themselves, so ironing out all the details of how the house goes together has been a greatly collaborative process between myself, the owner/builder, and their engineer.

DESCRIPTION:

The Re-Center is a place where I can Re-Center myself physically and mentally. Physically because I will pull the hammock out then center myself between utility poles. Mentally because it is a place where I can rest. This is a place where I can be alone for a few minutes out of my constantly social days.

The hammock is knotted with a square knot, which is minimal, but strong enough to hold me. The cables hold the hammock in tension, while I release my own tension.
