Message from The Fund Chairs
As SCDS parents for almost thirty years, we know firsthand the value and benefits of a Country Day education, and we are honored to lead the 2022-23 campaign for The Fund for Country Day! As the cornerstone of the School’s annual fundraising efforts, the Fund is the single most important way families and alumni can support SCDS. Green & Gold Celebration
In early December, over 100 guests gathered at the home of Lindsay and Brent Harlander ’97 for the annual Green & Gold Celebration. This special evening celebrated Country Day’s Green & Gold Society donors—those who give annual gifts totaling $2,500 or more to the School.
During the event, Head of School Kef Wilson and Director of Institutional Advancement Lynette Allison expressed their gratitude for the ever-growing group of leadership donors and the wonderful culture of philanthropy at Savannah Country Day School. Kef also highlighted the significant accomplishments of the school and the continued excellence achieved on campus.
To join next year’s event or to learn more about the Green & Gold Society and how you can contribute at the leadership level, please visit savcds.org/greenandgold or contact Lynette Allison at lynetteallison@savcds.org.
In the Spotlight
The Middle and Upper School Theatre Departments lit up the stage with productions of “The Diviners” and “Newsies, Jr.” Both productions were highly praised for the students’ immense talent and creative interpretation of the pieces, as well as the collaboration with Upper School students who made up the crew and pit orchestra for the Middle School musical. Bravo, Hornets!
SCDS Jazz Rocks
In mid-December, the Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo took the stage for a lively concert filled with a variety of pieces, ranging from Michael Buble to Freddie Mercury.
One Act Play Winner
Congratulations to the amazing cast and crew of “The Diviners” for their first place win at the GHSA Regional One Act Play Competition! Kudos as well to Alex Kaminsky ‘22 and Daniel Bosch ‘25 for their All-Star Cast awards and to Silas Johnson ‘24 for being chosen as Best Actor of the entire competition! At the GHSA State Competition, Country Day took fourth place, and Silas Johnson and Alex Kaminsky won All-Star Actor and Actress for their performances.
A favorite school tradition each December, the annual Holiday Concert is a beautiful showcase of our Lower, Middle, and Upper School choruses, accompanied by the Upper School Orchestra. In addition, the Upper School drama students served as storytellers and emcees.
Middle School
Fine Arts Night
At Country Day, the Fine and Performing Arts program exposes students to visual art, general music, choral music, jazz band, theatre, drama, photography, orchestra, and technology-based visual arts. Each year our talented Middle School students have an opportunity to showcase their work to an audience of parents, grandparents, teachers, and fellow students.
Open Studio Night
The Upper School Fine Arts faculty hosted an open studio event for students and parents in the winter. Students guided parents through the art studios, participated in a few activities, and reviewed completed projects and works in progress. A special highlight was the Art 400 projects utilizing the laser cutter in the new makerspace.
Clay Target
It was a historic season for the Clay Target team, bringing home the Georgia Independent Athletic Association Championship team title in the General Division as well as the Individual HOA Championship title won by team captain Owen Haas. The team, in its fourth season at Country Day, worked hard and consistently placed in the top three at each qualifying tournament. Impressively, Owen Haas won HOA (highest overall) at three out of the four qualifiers. The season culminated with an amazing State Championship come-from-behind win. The team score was represented by the top five shooters: Owen Haas 287/300, Chase Buerger 283/300, Miles Carson 279/300, Dan Bradley 268/300 and Andrew Nicholson (267/300). For the HOA/Individual GIAA State Champion, Owen Haas finished in a first-ever three-way tie and won the epic shoot-off under the lights at the Forest City Gun Club. Among females, Ericka Ann McKeever finished Runner up overall with 251/300. Individual event finishes included: Skeet: Miles Carson 3rd, Female Skeet: Ericka Ann McKeever 1st, Anna Loren Dekle 2nd and Jacqueline Bunger 5th; Trap: Owen Haas 1st, Female Trap: Ericka Ann McKeever 2nd, Gracen Garceau 3rd and Jacqueline Bunger 5th; Sporting Clays: Owen Haas 3rd and Chase Buerger 4th; Female Sporting Clays: Gracen Garceau 3rd and Anna Loren Dekle 4th.
