"Promenadi" begins with an introduction, where only the low register and percussion instruments are on stage. Violins, violas and woodwinds are placed on backstage, brass behind or beside the audience (perhaps on the balcony etc). The piccolo flute is behind the audience too, as far and high as possible. They all gather playing to the stage during the introduction. This progress is in detail explained in the score. Concerning the interpretation of the introduction, every musician must not play very loud whole time. They have to hold enough breaks, sometimes more than marked in the score, for creating a chance to all phrases to be heard by the audience.
