Ourrootsdatebacktotheearly20thcentury,withtiestotheinfamousOrphan TrainsoutofNewYork. Nearly400childrensteppedoffthetrainsatthelast stopinJacksonville…theyhadnofamilyandnoonetoturnto.
ReverendDWComstockralliedcommunityleaderstohelpcareforthese children,toprovideeducation,safetyandguidance.Buthisdreamwasmuch greater.
OnNovember17,1902,heopenedthedoorstoCHStoprovidea“family”for childrenwhohadnowhereelsetogo.
Alothashappenedoverthepast100-plusyears.Sinceourfounding,CHShas grownandevolvedtoprovidetherightservicesandsolutionstoaddressthe needsofchildrenandfamiliesthroughoutthechangingtimes…tohelpmore childrenrealizetheirfullpotential.
Withanationalreputation,CHSleadsthewayinchildren’sservices,whereno otherorganizationhasthesizescopeorbreadthofservicestomeetchildren’s andfamilies’needs.
Today,we’reproudtoserve80K+childrenandfamilymemberseachyear. We’vegrownfromtwoteammembersin1902tomorethan1,000today.We’ve expandedfromoneprimarylocationinNortheastFloridatonowprovide supportandcaretonearlyeveryareaofFlorida.
