In the dynamic world of business and personal growth, success stories often shine a spotlight on extroverted go-getters, charismatic leaders, and social butterflies who seem to effortlessly conquer challenges. But what about the unsung heroes of introversion – the deep thinkers, the quiet strategists, and those who, on their shyest days, find solace in their own reflections? It's time to recognize that success knows no labels, and introverts possess an arsenal of strengths that drive them to knock out their goals. Welcome to the journey of discovering how to "Build from The Inside Out." This article is dedicated to those who thrive on introspection, who sometimes find themselves navigating their most introverted days, and who yearn to embrace their inner motivation and determination, regardless of the world's noise. More times than not, taking time to process thoughts prior to jumping into conversations just for the sake of sharing their opinions. This is a journey that underscores the profound importance of finding inspiration, nurturing, determination, setting and pursuing goals specifically designed for introverts. So often being shy is mistaken for being an introvert or being an introvert is mislabeled as being shy. For the record the two are significantly different. My path was a deep excursion into shyness like debilitatingly shy. At one point in my high school years I was too shy to ring the bell on the bus to get off the city bus and would simply ride along to the next person’s stop, get off with them and walk back to my destination. I didn’t want to be seen or heard. There were so many thoughts happening in my head and I still failed to show up for myself in even the smallest ways. We’ll come back to this later but what I have learned is there is almost always a point where we decide “enough is enough” and decide to make the changes needed to get to our desired, next level goals. Our purpose here is to uncover and acknowledge the power of inspiration, determination and being your unique and authentic self whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert. The key is to uncover the secrets of finding your inspiration when the world feels overwhelming and uncertain so you can harness your energy, from the inside out, to put your shy and/or introvert strengths to work to reach your goals. Your introvert days need not be obstacles; they are your stepping stones to greatness. Let’s start by Defining Introversion: Introversion is a personality trait characterized by a preference for solitude and quieter, more reflective environments. Introverts tend to feel more energized and mentally focused when they have tie for introspection and thought. Often finding social interactions draining and requiring downtime to recharge mental and emotional batteries. It's important to emphasize that introversion is not a limitation but a unique way of processing the outside world. A few common traits associated with Introversion: 8 of 32
• • • •
Reflective Nature: Introverts are often deep thinkers, inclined to contemplate and analyze various aspects of life. This introspective quality can be a source of creativity and insight. Limited Social Energy: Social interactions, especially in large groups, can be draining for introverts. They may need to balance these interactions with sufficient alone time. Prefer Smaller Gatherings: Introverts tend to feel more comfortable and engaged in smaller, more intimate gatherings where they can be connected into meaningful conversations. Attention to Detail: Introverts often excel in tasks that require attention to detail and focus. They can be highly analytical and meticulous in their work.
Many days, introverts face unique challenges related to motivation and productivity. When the world feels particularly overwhelming or when situations require more extroverted behavior, introverts might experience a temporary dip in motivation. Here are some of the challenges Introverts may encounter: • Social Drain: Interactions with others, especially in noisy or high-stimulation environments, can leave introverts feeling mentally exhausted. This fatigue can impact motivation to engage in work or personal projects. • Self-Doubt: Introverts may be more prone to self-doubt on their shyest days, as they may feel that their quieter nature is a disadvantage. This self-doubt can hinder their confidence, motivation and taking action, • Procrastination: Some introverts may procrastinate or delay tasks when feeling overwhelmed. This can be a way of coping with the need for solitude and introspection but can stall productivity. While introverts may face these challenges, they also possess unique strengths, including deep thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to empathize and connect deeply with others. Using these strengths can be the way to overcome the obstacles that show up. It’s also important to find inspiration, grace and support on the days where “too much people-ing” shows up and impacts the way we show up for ourselves and others. In the early days of changing the way I showed up for myself, most of my progress was made using mantras geared toward my desire to move forward in my career and my life. A few of my critical life events included strengthening my mindset when: • I became an unmarried, single mom of two children - it was at this time I knew all of my efforts had to be focused on building mental muscle to accomplish my goals. My first mantra was “Be Your Excellent Best” and my second mantra was “Act Like the Person You Want to Be”. Any time negative self talk surfaced, I’d quickly insert the mantra and repeat it over and over. Your brain will do what you tell it to do. The mantras served as a clear way to direct my brain to refocus, minimize doubt and negative self talk. •
My career in sales continued and it became evident that becoming a strong team leader was imperative to sales success with the Fortune 1000 companies we were selling to. If I could focus on being my excellent best - I knew others with could do it too! My first multi-million 9 of 32 business owner looking to land a top tier credit dollar consulting contract was with a boutique
card brand, Discover Financial. For the thirty days of preparation, we lived by the mantra “Be Your Excellent Best”. We focused on how we would show up on the day of the meeting - not one day before or one day after. The team was on board. We practiced, role played, became conversational instead of presentational and leaned on each other, as needed. The meeting was stellar! A full team effort with a focus on servicing the customer when the visited in person. A couple of weeks later we got the call that we had been selected. We were overjoyed! The best part was hearing that we were more prepared than their current provider. It sent our excitement levels over the top, Our celebration was named “Be Your Excellent Best” and ultimately the most important part became the fact that every person on the team knew they could do it. If you do it once, you can do it over and over! •
The launch of my Advisory firm spun me into the world of entrepreneurship without a safety net. The Fortune 750 I worked for over 12 years went through an acquisition. Part of the acquisition was that they no longer needed the role I served in and there wasn’t another role that fit my skill set. Big decisions had to be made. I decided it was my time to create my own impact in the world and after an 18 month “sabbatical” and a lot of soul searching I filed the business licensing paperwork, bought a domain (or four) and began showing up for myself in digital and physical spaces as “The Sales Growth Coach”. We provide Sales Coaches and Advisors to guide CEOs, Founders and Corporate Sales Teams to sell in their unique and natural voice and build revenue without being salesy or scripted. My ultimate goal is to transform the way sales focused leaders move with leads and business relationships while they build B2B sales revenue. Our firm has supported hundreds of coaches, consultants and sales people to land multi-millions of dollars in sales revenue within four years. My why seeing the changes in competence, confidence and growth that occurs and helping our clients never look back!
Setting and Achieving Your Goals is a critical part of increasing competence and confidence. Tips on Setting and Prioritizing Goals: • Clarity: By defining goals clearly and making them as specific as possible, this will support understanding the purpose and direction of your efforts. • Break Goals into Smaller Steps: Suggest that introverts break larger goals into smaller, manageable steps. This approach prevents feeling overwhelmed and allows them to focus on one task at a time. • Embrace Introvert Strengths: Highlight that introverts can leverage their natural strengths, such as deep thinking and attention to detail, to their advantage when setting and pursuing goals. • Prioritize Self-Care: Introverts often need solitude and self-care to recharge. Encourage them to prioritize self-care practices as part of their goal-setting routine to maintain balance and energy. • Accountability and Tracking: Encourage introverts to keep a record of their progress and be accountable to themselves. This can be done through journals, apps, or regular self-assessment. • Flexibility: Remind them that it's okay to adapt their goals and timelines as needed. Sometimes, introvert days may require adjustments in their approach to maintain motivation. • Set Realistic Expectations: Help them understand that setting achievable goals is key to
maintaining motivation. Unrealistic expectations can lead to frustration and reduced determination. Key Points for Achieving Goals: • Inner Inspiration: Unlike external motivators, which can vary in their effectiveness, determination comes from within. It's a deep, personal commitment to achieving a specific goal. Once you find your inspiration be sure to recall it early and often to move through the challenges we all face from time to time. • Consistency: Determined individuals stay committed to their goals over the long term. It helps them stay focused and avoid distractions, even on introvert days when social interaction may seem challenging. Give yourself time, space and grace when needing to refresh and reenergize. You’ll be better for it. • Confidence: Competence often leads to increased self-confidence. When introverts see themselves making progress towards their personal improvement goals, it boosts their belief in their abilities. Embrace Your Inner Strengths As we wrap up our exploration into the world of introversion, determination, and inspiration, we've been on a journey that celebrates the power of being true to oneself! While the world may sometimes favor the extroverted, we've discovered that introverts possess a wealth of strengths that can be harnessed to build success from the inside out. Introverts, even on their shyest days, show us the path to inspiration and determination. Proof that success is not exclusive to the charismatic and outgoing extrovert; it's an open road that anyone can travel. It's about nurturing your inner inspiration, even when the world is loud and demanding, and embracing your unique qualities. We've learned that clarity, perseverance, and flexibility in goal setting can light the way, ensuring that introverts stay motivated and determined on their personal and professional journeys. And, in the end, we've seen how the power of unique thinking can lead to innovation and deep understanding. Remember, your introvert days need not be seen as obstacles. Instead, they can be your moments of reflection and introspection, your time to recharge and re-emerge stronger and more inspired than ever. Chargebacks. Just the word can send a shiver down the spine of any business owner. But fear not, because today, we're delving into the intricate world of chargeback conversations—where merchants, customers, and financial institutions engage in a dialogue that's more complex than meets the eye. The Merchant's Perspective Imagine running a popular hair extension boutique or athleisure clothing brand, and suddenly, a chargeback notification lands in your inbox. Panic sets in, right? Absolutely. This is where the journey begins. Firstly, the customer’s financial institution notifies you of a chargeback—aka a customer's request for a refund. They provide transaction details, the reason behind the chargeback, and even throw in some evidence from the customer. Now, it's your turn. Armed with purchase receipts, delivery confirmations, and records of your interactions with the customer, you prepare to build a case. It's like solving a puzzle without the picture—challenging but crucial. The written response becomes your tool. You craft a compelling explanation, detailing why this chargeback (or refund request) isn't valid. Then, you engage in a back-and-forth with the financial team, showing your dedication to resolving the matter. This is called a ‘representment.’ This is a critical moment of effective communication. It's not just about defending your business; it's also about demonstrating your commitment to customer satisfaction. Each word in your response is a step towards a resolution that benefits both parties. As a business owner, why is this step essential? Think of it like this: • • • •
You sold a $25 product, good, or service to a customer (or client). They request a refund for whatever reason. Because you are a firm believer in a great customer service experience, you reward the refund with no questions asked. When balancing your books, you realize you are negative $4,000.00 in profit for the month. 18 of 32
Ask yourself: • • •
How much are your monthly expenses that keep operations flowing like a river? What is the amount of money spent on materials to make each one of the products, goods, or time it took to create the service? Were any of the materials imported (high shipping costs)
See how that works? Once you have calculated all the amounts listed for the questions, that is the total you lost from the refunded $25 product. Crazy, right!? In some cases, you will take a loss when it comes to true unauthorized (or fraudulent) purchases of your goods, products, or services. But when it comes to legitimate chargebacks, documentation & communication is key! The Customer's Perspective On the other side of the coin is the customer, armed with dissatisfaction and a desire for resolution. Perhaps they received a faulty product, experienced subpar customer service, or just want their money back while keeping the product—this is an example of ‘friendly fraud.’ Friendly fraud, while it may not be intentional, occurs when: • • •
A customer makes a purchase but could potentially forget they purchased the item. The customer experiences an instant onset of buyer’s remorse A customer wants to bypass contact with the business and immediately reaches out to their financial institution to request a refund of their money AND they intend on keeping the product or goods sold to them.
Customers may reach out to you, hoping to find common ground. But when no resolution appears on the horizon, they escalate the matter to their financial institution. The customer lays out the details of the transaction and provides evidence like a detective building a case. There's a back-and-forth with you, sharing photos of damaged goods, proof of non-delivery, and any correspondence. It's everything short of a courtroom drama. Now, they engage in communication with the financial institution, clarifying points, defending their case, and crossing fingers for a resolution in their favor. In this narrative of dissatisfaction, emotions run high. The customer isn't just seeking a refund; they're seeking a sense of justice. Each interaction, whether with you or the financial institution, becomes a chapter in their chargeback saga. Understanding this perspective is key not only to responding but also to preventing future occurrences of this complex situation. The Financial Institution's Role Enter the financial institution, the mediator in this chargeback saga. Their role? To evaluate, mediate, and decide based on the evidence presented. 19 of 32
They carefully examine the case, studying the transaction details and sifting through evidence like a detective solving a mystery. If they agree with the customer's plea (or refund request), they send a chargeback notification (or refund request notification) to you. It's your cue to respond and engage in the exchange of evidence once again. As the liaison between you and the customer, they facilitate the information exchange, requesting more details and ensuring everyone's cards are on the table. The financial institution's role is like that of a wise referee. They don't just make a call; they consider the nuances of the situation. Their judgment impacts not just the current transaction but sets a precedent for future interactions. Understanding their perspective is like deciphering the rules of a game—essential for playing it right. In Conclusion… And there you have it—the intricate world of chargebacks. Merchants, customers, and financial institutions engage in a conversation that goes beyond a simple refund request. Each party brings their perspectives, evidence, and arguments to the table. Understanding this dialogue isn't just about avoiding missteps; it's about effective communication and fair dispute resolution. So, the next time chargebacks (or refund requests) come knocking, you'll be equipped to navigate this complex narrative with finesse.

Embarking on the entrepreneurial journey is indeed exhilarating. Perhaps you've already commenced operations, witnessing the influx of revenue. Picture this: you're a sole proprietor, steering the ship solo without any partners in tow. Now, the pivotal question arises: where does the hard-earned capital find its haven? Is it nestled within your personal account? Bravo, you've officially started deriving revenues – commendable progress! Yet, before you gallop ahead, pause for a moment, my entrepreneurial compatriot! Fast forward to March, and envision a scenario where your full-time salary, your spouse's equivalent, and an additional $200,000 from your part-time landscaping endeavor are mingling freely in your unified checking account. Herein lies a predicament – you've inadvertently engaged in "commingling." The mere mention sends shivers, doesn't it? The IRS, unless proven otherwise, will assert that the funds deposited represent income, not mere revenue. Now, let's delve into the intricacies:

Subsequently, formalize the chosen entity; a financial institution won't open an account without proper legal establishment.
Establish Separate Financial Realms: Set up distinct bank accounts for your designated entity, ensuring all financial transactions, be they revenues or expenses, flow exclusively through this dedicated channel. Avoid disbursing personal expenses from the business account and refrain from depositing business revenues into personal coffers.
Elaborating on the first two points: Understanding Entities: An entity is akin to a person sans limbs but endowed with legal existence. It's a legal fiction that exists to embody a business. A Sole Proprietorship is a simple, fast option but offers minimal legal protection. File an Assumed Name Certificate, open a bank account, and file taxes using a Schedule C. Pass-Through Entities: These entities, like Sub-S Corporations or LLCs, pass-through income to shareholders. While maintaining simplicity, they provide a corporate veil shielding the owner from liability. Expect a Schedule K for tax filing. C Corporation: Reserved for larger entities, especially publicly traded ones, a C Corporation is taxed at the corporate level. Income is retained within the corporation at a different tax rate, but beware of potential double taxation. The insights shared encompass a primer on business organizations, emphasizing the imperative to segregate business transactions, laden with tax implications, from nontaxable personal expenses. Engaging with accountants or attorneys upfront may prove invaluable. The earlier this organizational framework is established in your business evolution, the more advantageous it becomes. Here we are again, the beginning of a new year. It is usually at this time of year we are thinking about how to make the upcoming year the BEST YEAR EVER!! We think of different goals we want to accomplish to improve our relationships, health, finances, and so forth. We should be doing this regularly, but something special about January 1st motivates us to be more intentional with those goals. Have you ever wondered why that is? We all see January 1st as a new beginning - the start of something new. The next question we need to ask ourselves is - What about new beginnings that motivate us to take action in our lives? It is because, with every new beginning, there is a sense of HOPE. Hope for new opportunities to become the person you want to become and accomplish your life goals. Hope is the ultimate motivator. When you choose to pursue a goal, you are hoping for a specific outcome to happen. You are letting that hope work in you to motivate you into action. That is why it is easy to lose motivation and quit when things get tough or you aren't seeing the results you were hoping for. Unfortunately, we have all been there and done that. That is why I want to share with you one way I have found that helps me maintain hope regularly - maximize the new beginnings in your life. New beginnings can include the New Year, birthdays, the start of a new job, moving, or whatever you can think of. The goal is to look at every day as a new beginning eventually, but if you aren't there yet, don't worry! If you look at your life as a series of new beginnings, you will more easily find the motivating hope needed to obtain whatever you are working towards. I turned 40 last year and knew I wanted to do something different and unique because of it. So, I chose to hike Rim to Rim at the Grand Canyon. A grueling 24.6-mile hike across the Grand Canyon. Why did I choose that? I am unsure, but I did and am glad I did. It allowed me to show myself I could do something I never thought possible. It gave me confidence that I didn't have before, which has flowed into other areas of my life. To complete the Rim to Rim, I had to spend months training. I had to put in the work, and it wasn't easy. I remember that I only turned 40 once, and the whole reason I wanted to hike Rim to Rim was for this new beginning. I didn't want to let this new beginning pass me by. In summary, I want you to think of something you want to achieve. Something that will bless your life and make you a better person. Now, tie that achievement with a new beginning. It doesn't have to be on January 1st. Pick an event or date that will cause you to say... "I don't want to let this opportunity pass me by." Do you feel a sense of hope when you think of that date? Do you look at that date and think of the new opportunities that come from it? Pick a new date if you answered no to any of these questions. It must be a date meaningful enough to you that when things get tough and don't work out the way you want (notice how I said when and not if), you won't quit. In those moments, you must say, "I don't want to waste this opportunity, so keep going!!" Now imagine a life where you can see each day as a new beginning, a unique opportunity to achieve that one thing you have been working towards. This state of mind can and will come to those who seek it. In the meantime, never lose hope, and remember that I am here cheering you on... YOU GOT THIS!
