Trending / Winter to Spring 2016 take notes 1. Buffalo Checks / Gingham This print -which is usually associated with picnic tables- now has a chic, feminine update. Madewell was the first to re-introduce the trend, incorporating it into pieces like loose, knee-length skirts. Wear with: Solid neutrals, light and airy garments, structured outerwear. 2. Slip-On Shoes Available in flat and heeled styles, slip on shoes like mules are back in style. They’re also easy basics to incorporate into your favorite outfits. Wear with: Cuffed distressed jeans, relaxed tees, button-ups. 3. Oversized Earrings Huge, colorful earrings elevate solid or casual clothes. The trick to making statement earrings wearable is minimize your other jewelry. Wear with: Plunging necklines, neutral pieces with lots of texture. 4. Slip Dresses Slip dresses have become a new closet staple. They’re flirty and go with almost anything. Plus, they’re great for layering. Play up their girliness or contrast it with tougher pieces. Wear with: Studded ankle boots, over a cool bralette, over a mock neck tee, under a leather jacket.

What to Watch On Netflix This Month: by Sarah Kendric
1
LÊon: The Professional (1994) R If you’re looking for a gritty, heartfelt action movie, The Professional is the way to go. Baby Natalie Portman plays an (eortlessly stylish) child with a family life that goes from bad to nonexistent. To avenge the death of her younger brother, she attempts to train herself to become a hit man while living with assassin LÊon (Jean Reno). Be warned: if you’re not into violence or ruining your mascara you may want to skip this one.
2
Twinsters (2015) PG-13 Twinsters is a short-and-sweet documentary about twins who weren’t aware that they had a twin until they found each other online. It’s a real-life, modern parent trap and will make you appreciate your family.
3
iZombie (2015) TV-14 Currently in its second season on the CW network, iZombie is the brain child of Rob Thomas. You may know him as the director of cult favorite Veronica Mars (my personal favorite). iZombie features a fully-functional, quick-witted zombie who survives o the brains of the corpses she handles at her job at the morgue. She takes on the characteristics of those whose brains she eats, and gains some of their memories. Thus, she helps to solve their murders and learns how to deal with switching personalities every time she has lunch.
4
10 Things I Hate About You (2009-2010) TV-14 If you’re a fan of the classic 90’s teen movie of the same name, this ABC Family TV adaptation will not disappoint you. Kat and Bianca’s characters are further explored and even more relevant, relatable, and likable. Plus, Gregory Peck stars as Patrick Verona (đ&#x;”Ľ ). Both 10episode seasons are perfect to watch on a snow day because they’re not a big commitment, like Gossip Girl of Grey’s. And, if you’re upset over the multiple cliffhanger ending (me? bitter?) give this a read and buy yourself some ice cream. Heads Up: this show is NOT on Netflix, but all episodes are currently streaming on the Freeform website. Click here to watch!

Freaks and Geeks (1999-2000) TV-14 A quotable, coming-of-age cult favorite, Freaks and Geeks follows the high school experiences of Lindsey Weir (who has recently joined the ‘freak’ clique) and her younger brother Sam (a freshman geek). It perfectly, hysterically, and timelessly encapsulates exactly what it’s like to be in high school, and it does not have a single bad episode. Sawyer Magazine / 16

girls love boys themselves
32 Body Image and the Media 33 Alterna Valentine’s Day 35 Tips to Self Love 39 Love Letters
31
Studies have found that young girls were more fearful of gaining weight than getting cancer, nuclear war, or losing their parents. This statement alone really says something about what society’s expectations are for women. The way media portrays women has a negative influence on body image and how women perceive themselves. Magazines set unrealistic beauty standards for women everywhere, therefore I believe that magazine advertisements and other forms of media send unhealthy messages to women of all ages. Body-image can drastically affect a person’s self-esteem, especially in teens and young women. With regular access to social media, a girl’s self-esteem can plummet into insecurity over one’s beauty. According to statistics, women are 50% more likely to say something negative (rather than positive) about themselves on social media. Seeing perfectly made-up models can make a girl feel as though they do not meet society’s standards of beauty. 82% of women feel as though the beauty standards set by the media are completely unrealistic and unattainable particularly in body types. For example, 20 years ago, average models weighed 8% less than the average woman while today’s models weighed 23% less. But why is there such pressure for models to be thinner? Advertisers simply believe that underweight models will help them sell their products, while in reality consumers are less fascinated in buying products that make them feel unconfident and insecure. However, sometimes advertisers play off of this insecurity, offering their product as a resolution to the consumer’s low self-esteem. Advertising models with unrealistic standards only encourages unhealthy female physique and eating habits as well as a negative self-image, all while increasing eating disorder statistics. Today, 8 million people or more have developed eating disorders in the United States, 90% of those people being women. Disordered eating is mostly practiced by young women, suggesting that media directed towards young adults influences body dissatisfaction. While some magazines and companies attempt to represent average sized models, advertisers have been known to complain, causing them to return to featuring underweight models. Everyday people are not models. What girls need to see are girls just like themselves. They need to look up to real people, not people altered to look flawless. by: Mackenzie Panessa ig: @tastefullypeculiar

Dear Barrett, I don’t know how to start this because there really aren’t enough words in English (or Spanish lol I speak that too) for me to expres s how much I appreciate you. I remember the first time I watched Heathers. I fell completely in love with your voice and laugh. I soon found you on the inte rnet and fell in love with you as a person. While I was initially only a fan of your talent, I soon became a fan of your character and wonderful personal ity. Meeting you was an unbelievable experienc e and I still regret not thanking you enough in pers on. I was way too nervous and had so much I wish I could have said. Which is exactly why I’m writing this letter. I’ve felt alone a lot in my life. I stil l often feel alone. But you are one of them many reasons I keep going and keep trying to love myse lf because you make live worth living. You make me so unbelievably happy and I just hope every day of your life is as amazing as you deserve. Thank you so much for being kind to me and thank you so much for sharing your talent (and opinions) with the worl d. I will never forget how happy I felt the day we met and you gave me the most magical hug I’ve ever rece ived. You are an angel princess and I adore you so much more than this letter will ever explain. Than k you eternally for everything. I love you, Emi ☺. Emiliana Cardinale twitter: @emicardinale

Step 1: thread elastic through the
lower hole of the tab from back to front, then through the upper hole from front through to the back.
Step 2:
position a second tab behind the first like so, creating a third opening where the two overlap. Think of it as a Venn diagram.
Step 4:
position a third tab to be directly next to the first so that the second is behind and a second ‘Venn diagram’ spaced is formed between the second and third tabs.
Step 7: place your fourth tab next 47
to the second, and thread the elastic through the holes formed by the tab the same way as before.
Step 5: thread the top section of
the elastic through the second ‘Venn diagram’ space from forward to the back. Repeat with the bottom section.
Step 8:
continue to repeat these steps, pulling the elastic tightly and holding the tabs in place.
Step 3:
holding the tabs in position with your left hand, thread the elastic hanging from the upper hole through the middle part of the ‘venn diagram’ from back to front. Repeat the process on the bottom.
Step 6: thread the top section of
the elastic through the second ‘Venn diagram’ space from forward to the back. Repeat with the bottom section.
Step 9:
once your bracelet is big enough to fit comfortably around, make sure your last tab is positioned behind the second-to-lsat
materials: cleaned
Step 10: bring both ends of the
bracelet together so that the last tab is overlapping with the first tab, forming another ‘Venn Diagram.’
Step 13: tie tight knots as close
to the tabs as possible to finish the bracelet. Since the cord stretches, tie a triple or quadruple knot.
bottle tops (20-40), elastic cord (enough to wrap around your wrist 3 times)
Step 11: holding the tabs in place,
thread the top portion of the elastic through the space formed by the first and last tabs, then repeat with the bottom section so that the strands of elastic are hanging out the back.
Step 12: holding tightly to the elastic, flip
the bracelet inside out so that the elastic is now in front. Going from right to left, through the elastic through the ‘Venn Diagram’ yet again so the string is hanging out the back, then, holding tightly to the elastic, flip the bracelet back to normal.
Step 14: cut the excess thread, leaving
a tiny bit of excess thread so that the knot will not undo itself.
this bracelet is an awesome way to reuse everyday materials. It has an upcycled, grunge look. The underside of the bottle tops shouldn’t bother your skin, but if they do, the bracelet can be reversed so that the smooth side is against your skin. Remember not to make the bracelet too big because the elastic will stretch to fit over your hand!

Dear Mr. Vernon,

We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong, but we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us... In the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions.
sincerely yours,
51

But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain‌and an athlete...and a basket case...a princess...and a criminal.
does that answer your question?
