narrative
Modern Inventor Building scenius
Eesmyal is a hybid. A modern day inventor who embraces new modes of communication and expression to build a better world – a more sustainable world – for all. A natural leader and collaborator, Eesmyal wants to create entry points for creative citizens and entrepreneurs to help him in his mission. One that is accessible and that is easy for people to get involved and do the right thing. Comfortable in both physical and virtual spaces, he sees the benefits and limitations to both. He resists being siloed into any one category but continues to gain expertise and leadership in the area of green / sustainable buildings and new ways of doing business.

creative brief WHY We are developing a visual identity to represent and document the portfolio of projects, ideas and initiatives led by Eesmyal. The resultant is cuumulative + inspiring evidence of a Modern Inventor. Because projects are often realized collaboratively, the communications will also celebrate community. We are Building and nurturing Scenius (a communal form of genius). GOAL A central place to concatenate projects, ideas, initiatives, presentations. To make a lasting impression on creative + business communities. To reduce fragmentation + emanate influence.
TENSION The tension lies between the desire to simplify and relentless activity and pull towards large scale projects and opportunities. The communications will respond to this tension by acting as the threshold into Ees’ world, where zen and momentum meet, where the stories of realized ideas are waiting to be told, where future projects are anticipating fruition and replication.
AUDIENCE Creative entrepreneurs. Potential clients and collaborators. Looking for precedents. Looking for inspiration. Looking to connect. Looking for the unexpected. Future leaders.
DEPARTURE The graphic language should reflect the interpay of of zen + momentum, minimalism + complexity, organic + geometric. Blog posts should focus on a blend of incredible inventions, green building innovations, cultural observations, meditative moments, and personal / collective achievements. Business card ~ a gift. The tone is Curious. Illuminating. Purposeful.

Phase 2: Concept Direction
Project: Eesmyal Inventor Client: Eesmyal Santos Brault Date: Sunday April 17 2011 Design + Strategy: Sarah Hay
LOGO
NO1. Spiral This concept plays directly on the notion of e + spiral. Winding in a continuous and gradually widening curve around the centre ‘e’, Permutations include transparent shading, and branches stemming from the end of the spiral ~ continuous growth and varation.
NO.2 – Zen This concept is inspired by zen gardens and slowly drawing in the sand with your hand. The possibilities for this logo type using different brush strokes is endless. Logo may be rotated, repeated changing the form into trees and other symbols.
NO.3 – Circuitry This concept is inspired by the circuit board, city grids, mazes, and pac man. Like the spiral concepts, this shape can be drawn in an ever expanding pattern.
WORD MARK
FONT NO.1 – Blender The typeface is based on 2 CAD-fonts from early illustration programs which were first generated as characters and then cut with each other. A new mixed form was developed out of the constructed collection of forms.
FONT NO.2 – Carmen The myth of Carmen, the spanish gypsy woman, was the reading inspiration source for this new typeface. Carmen typeface evolves contrast, passion and sophisticated elegance in your text.
FONT NO.3 – Sophie Sophie is a seductive type. A stylish shapely face with a spirited character combining beauty, elegance and modernity. Conceived with curvy lines and angled edges for offbeat advertising and publishing.
