JUST SAY NO TO "DAD" DENIM

Our inventory also includes an excellent lineup of accessories and lifestyle goods like jewelry, messenger bags, knives and of course, our own ShineUP custom-scented candles.

GUEST EDITOR

Meet Guest Editor and ShineUP owner Dina Murillo. Though the inspiration for this clothing and lifestyle boutique came to her on a 2018 Paris trip, she has created a must-shop spot that is quintessential Santa Barbara. Located in an OG—as in one of the few precious pieces of real estate left untouched by developers—building in the Funk Zone and a stone's throw from the ocean, ShineUP is small but mighty, not unlike Dina and her beloved Frenchie sidekick, Mabel. And while ShineUP initially catered to men's fashion, 49.7 percent of the world's population will be thrilled to know that it now has a burgeoning selection of clothing and accessories for women. The categories that fill the racks and shelves here have several things in common; exceptional quality, feelgood fabrics and reasonable price points. Dina is very judicious when it comes to buying for the store. Because of the limited space, she only carries a few select brands each season, along with year-round staples like felt hats, artisan knives, jewelry, sunglasses and leather goods. ShineUP has a loyal local following not only because of the great merchandise, the authentic customer service and good vibes inside the store but also because of what happens just outside the doors on Helena Avenue. Since opening in April 2019, Dina has hosted over a dozen street parties—with plans for more—featuring live music from local bands. She's a big believer in building community and having fun! Here she shares a few of her picks for adding a little comfort, polish and sparkle to your wardrobe this season.

KEEPIN' IT LOCAL

> Almost everything in the store is either SB or California-made. We're big on supporting small businesses that make sustainable goods. The LA-made, lightweight eco-Suede Trucker Jacket ticks all of the boxes. It's perfect for layering on chilly mornings and cool evenings, comes in a variety of colors and is a solid addition to any closet.

WARES FOR WOMEN

> Over the past few seasons, I've worked diligently to build our women's clothing and accessories departments. We now carry a range of clothing that can go from comfy at home or cruising around to dressed up for a night on the town. And I am super excited about some of the local jewelry designers we carry and this great leather bag line—like some of my fave SB wines, they just get better with age and wear.
