COACH OF THE YEAR TIM SCANNEL TRINITY
received one vote.
Tim Scannel of Trinity University, the winningest Trinity baseball coach in history, has amassed a career record of 515-206 (heading into this weekend’s SCAC tournament) since taking over as head coach in 1999, including 222 conference wins (second-most in SCAC history). He has guided the Tigers to eight trips to the NCAA postseason tournament (including four in a row from 2010-2013), and to seven SCAC championships. On five occasions – in 2002, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2013 – the Tigers advanced to the NCAA Regional final, just one game shy of qualifying for the Division III College World Series. Trinity, currently 30-8, has been ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation this season, and the team’s win total marks the 13th time the Tigers have achieved a 30-plus win season in the past 16 years. For his efforts, Coach Scannell was named SCAC Coach of the Year for the ninth time, and for the fifth consecutive year, making him the most decorated baseball coach in conference history. Scannell received five votes each from his peers in the SCAC Coach-of-the-Year balloting. Greg Burnett of Texas Lutheran and R.J. Thomas of Southwestern University each
TREVOR KEELE ZACK SPEER OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-YEAR PITCHER OF-THE-YEAR Trevor Keele of the University of Dallas, a junior first baseman from Edgewood, Texas, led the SCAC in batting average (.400), hits (54) and runs batted in (46) and is also in the top 10 in the league in doubles (7 – ninth), triples (3 – fourth), total bases (70 – fourth), on-base percentage (.456 – third) and slugging percentage (.519 – sixth). A 2013 First Team All-SCAC performer, Keele drove in a conference 2014 single-game high six RBIs in a March 15 loss to Centenary. He started an 11-game hitting streak that same day which lasted until April 5. The first student-athlete from the University of Dallas, to win an Offensive or Defensive conference POTY award since the institution joined the SCAC in 2011, Keefe received five votes in the Player-of-the-Year balloting. Aaron Quintanilla of Centenary received the remaining two votes.
Zack Speer of Trinity University, a junior right-hander from Bellaire, Texas, picked up where he left off last season when he was named First Team All-SCAC, First Team D3baseball. com All-Region, Second Team ABCA All-Region and a D3baseball.com Honorable Mention All-American. Heading into this weekend’s conference tournament, he leads the SCAC in wins (8) and strikeouts (52) and is second in ERA (1.99) and fifth in innings pitched (63.1) – one of just two players in the SCAC who ranks in the top five of all four categories. Speer earned wins against five of the league’s six other conference teams this year and his 17 wins the last two seasons are the most by any pitcher over that stretch. In a tightly contested vote, Speer earned four votes for SCAC Pitcherof-the-Year while Dwayne Snider of Texas Lutheran received three votes. The award marks the fourth consecutive year that a Trinity hurler has won or shared SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Year honors and the ninth time in program history.
AARON
QUINTANILLA
NEWCOMER OF-THE-YEAR
Aaron Quintanilla of Centenary College, a first-year shortstop from Houston, Texas, leads all first-year conference players and is ranked in the top 10 among all players in hitting (.377), on-base percentage (.466) and stolen bases (17). He was also fourth in the league in triples (3) and walks (21) and eighth in both hits (46) and RBIs (26). A unanimous First Team All-SCAC selection, Quintanilla hit safely in 28 of the 34 games in which he had an official at-bat and enters this weekend’s SCAC tournament with the longest active hitting streak in the conference – 15 games. Quintanilla received five votes in the SCAC Freshman-of-the-Year balloting. First-year pitchers Kevin Flores of Trinity and Jacob Kendra of Southwestern received one vote each.

KANGAROOS 2015 SEASON PREVIEW
24
The Austin College baseball team enters a new era in 2015 as Mike Ramsey takes the reins as the head coach of the Kangaroos. The former All-American from Texas Christian University and draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds inherits a squad that finished the 2014 campaign with a record of 6-33 overall and 2-16 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play and will be looking to make some strides toward getting back to the SCAC tournament. Ramsey will have a good combination of senior leadership and youthful talent at his disposal this year, including senior pitchers Blaine Tew and Marshall Korn. The two right-handers have been fixtures in the Austin College rotation throughout their careers. Last season Tew sported a 4.41 earned-run-average and had 29 strikeouts while logging a team-high 69.1 innings on the hill. Korn made just six appearances last year, but over his career has thrown 143.1 innings with 65 career strikeouts. Also expected to join them in the rotation is sophomore Josh Lewis, who made an immediate impact last season with a pair of wins and three complete games. Lewis had 20 strikeouts in his 12 starts as a freshman. Ramsey will also have Todd Takabuki back as an option on the hill, as the senior lefty is back to split time at first base and on the mount. Takabuki drove in eight runs a year ago while also making three appearances on the hill. Mychael Parish, Lane Lozano, and Thomas Oberg are other returning options, as is sophomore Brett Moody. Last year, Moody made 12 appearances, including five starts, and led all Austin College pitches with 31 strikeouts. The ‘Roos return plenty of experience in the field as well, including infielders Dylan Day, Will Schommer, and Josh Coughennower. Day, a middle infielder, has collected 77 hits in his career with a batting average of .272 and an on-
base percentage of .363 over the course of his career, while Coughennower has 58 career hits, including nine doubles, with 31 career runs batted in. Schommer has been another fixture in the middle of the infield, and last season batted a career-best .253 with three doubles and four stolen bases. Leading the offense this year will be sophomore catcher Gus Daniel, an All-SCAC performer in his first season at Austin College. Daniel batted .330 on the season with three doubles and 13 RBI, and was outstanding defensively behind the dish as well. For the season, Daniel caught 23 runners trying to steal in his 31 appearances at catcher. Back to anchor the outfield is centerfielder Jeremy Halford, a junior who made 31 appearances last season and scored 13 runs while also leading the team with 12 stolen bases. He’ll be joined by James Arguello, a sophomore who had a strong first year with the program, belting a pair of doubles with 11 runs batted in. Ramsey also brings in six newcomers who will be vying for playing time both in the field and on the mound, including Austin Dudley and Mason Binder, who will each spend time catching and in the infield; pitcher Chase Almaguer; outfielder Derek Hester; and RJ Melton, who is expected to spend time both in the outfield and at first base. With the strong group of experienced players returning to lead the team this year, the ‘Roos will be making the push to get back to the SCAC tournament and rise in the standings in the program’s first season under Ramsey. CRUSADERS 2015 SEASON PREVIEW
36
The University of Dallas baseball team begins a new era under Interim Head Coach, Joe Myers. A native of Michigan, Myers is a familiar face for the Dallas squad, as he served the previous four years as an assistant coach; primarily working as the pitching coach. The team compiled an overall record of 17-22 and a conference mark of 7-11 in the 2013-14 season. The Crusaders finished 5th place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) standings. “Our strengths this year are the upper classmen. In the past we have been predominately under classmen, so the change in having leadership and game experience that the upper classmen possess is huge,” Myers commented. “Our starting rotation and core parts of the lineup, offensively and defensively, all have a good core of games played under their belt to have a sense for how to slow the games down and perform under pressure. Dallas returns 22 players from last year’s squad and also welcome 11 newcomers, which include nine freshmen and two transfers to suit up for the Navy and White. Back on the diamond for UD is senior Trevor Keele who led or ranked near the top for the team offensively in several categories to help garner the SCAC Baseball Offensive-Player of the Year honor. The first baseman/pitcher also notched accolades for D3Baseball.com All-West Region Third Team, All-SCAC Baseball First Team, and the USCAA Baseball All-American First Team. “The return of Trevor Keele is big,” Myers stated. “The year he had last year was special and being able to look back and see adjustments that he still needs to make to be a better player is something he has realized and worked on. For a player to do as well as he did and still see room for improvement speaks to his leadership and desire to win.” Two other fellow All-Conference Baseball First Team winners, seniors Martin Cronin and Nolan Kipp return to a veteran squad that boasts seven seniors and several returners that amassed playing time throughout the previous couple of seasons. Cronin will anchor a pitching staff hoping to improve on a 5.30 earned run average (ERA). The right-hander from The Woodlands, Texas, paced the team with a 6-3 record through 12 starts with a team-leading 3.16 ERA. He logged 77 innings while striking out a team-best 39 and tossed one complete game.
“On the bump, Martin Cronin comes in after being in the starting rotation for the past two years,” Myers reflected. “Again, he has seen everything already and has shown the desire to be the guy. Like Keele, he has been working to improve areas of his game, and is set to being dominate for us.” Another strong arm back for the navy and white is junior Denton Martin. The right-hander toed the rubber 11 times for UD last season, making five starts. In 37 innings, the native of Denton, Texas, ranked second on the team with a 3.41 ERA and punched out 22 batters. The Crusaders hit .274 as a team with Keele smashing a .400 average with 54 hits in 135 at-bats. Even with Mark Carlson departed, who was selected to the 2014 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division III Baseball All-West Region Second Team, Dallas expects to return plenty of hitters that earned time in the lineup in 2014. Kipp and Avery Arnold each tallied above a .300 average in part-time roles for the Crusaders. The duo finished with .320 and .306-clips, respectively, as both combined to total 86 at-bats. Tug McRoberts returns as well after making 24 starts and 26 appearances in the outfield last season. The junior from Beaumont, Texas, hit a .279 average. “Our goal this year is to simply win. Conference championships and good records will all come from winning ballgames,” Coach Myers concludes. “To realize what it takes to win and create a mindset that we expect to win every game we are in. We have been hitting hard on the fundamentals and playing the right way, but our goal is when one of those things breaks down; we still find a way to win.” Opening Day for Dallas is slated for January 31 at home versus Sul Ross State University with a doubleheader. The finale of the three-game series follows on February • Senior Trevor Keele, the 2014 1. SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, a D3 Baseball All-West Courtesy of University of Region, USCAA Baseball First Dallas Sports Information Team All-American and ABCA All-West Region selection will return for his senior season

MOUNTAINEERS 2015 SEASON PREVIEW
42
The 2015 Schreiner Mountaineer Baseball team and Head Coach Ryan Brisbin look to improve on their 2014 record (15-25, 6-12 SCAC). The team will have to find consistency with their pitching staff, while having to bounce back from a dismal defensive (.928 fielding pct.) and offensive (.243 batting average) year in 2014. With some depth and a solid recruiting class, Brisbin is excited about their chances to improve in 2015. On the mound, junior Matt Barnett and Sophomore Hayden Ray will both return to the starting rotation for Schreiner. Brisbin will be looking towards Freshmen Jayme Kidder (RHP/Belton, TX), Montana Hammack (RHP/Bryan, TX), Payton Stanford (LHP/Troy, TX), and Dillon Brown (RHP/Spring, TX) for quality innings. Each had a solid fall campaign and now are competing for a spot in the rotation. The Mountaineers will welcome back Junior Charlie Stewart (RHP/Leander, TX) from a season ending injury from last year. Stewart is expected to resume his role as the Mountaineers closer. Behind the plate, the Mountaineers will look to have to replace All-Conference catcher Chase Valdez. Juniors Ryan Martin (Cypress, TX) and Brady Tumlinson (Corpus Christi, TX), along with Freshmen Quinton Volovar (Spring, TX) and Luis Salazar (San Antonio, TX) are all vying for the starting
nod. Two year starter Marco Carreon (San Antonio, TX) will be back in the line-up for Schreiner, however, this season he will make the move to third base from second. In the middle infield for the Mountaineers, Blake Rowan (San Antonio, TX), Kyle Romaguera (Spring, TX)and Sam Pistrui (Katy, TX) are all battling for starting spots. At first base, Regan Reed (San Antonio, TX), Bret Hill (Kerrville, TX) and Trevor Wren (Cape Coral, FL) also are working towards making the lineup. After a great fall, Sophomore Connor Ver Schuur (Hutto, TX) has grabbed the centerfield spot. As far as the corner positions, Caleb Veteto (Bryan, TX) and Hagen Fryrear (Kerrville, TX) are battling in left, while Brad Holmes (Sugar Land, TX), and Kidder compete for the job in right field. The Mountaineers will open at Mountaineer Field with a three game series vs. Sul Ross State with a single nine inning game on Friday, February 6th. Courtesy of Schreiner University Sports Information
QUICK NOTES • The Mountaineers finished the 2014 season with a record of 15-25 and 6-12 in conference play • Two-year starter Marco Carreon will return for Schreiner, but will switch from third to second base this season • Junior Charlie Stewart will return from a season-ending injury he obtained last year, presumably as the closer for the Mountaineers • Four freshmen will be introduced into the pitching rotation for Schreiner this season • The Mountaineers are looking to improved on both offense and defense after finishing 2014 with a .928 fielding percentage and .243 batting average

PIRATES 2015 SEASON PREVIEW
48
Third year Head Coach R.J. Thomas has continued to build the Southwestern baseball program, adding 22 newcomers to the team for the 2015 campaign. After going 3-38 in his first season with the Pirates, Thomas’s squad improved to 14-28 overall and 10-8 in the SCAC last season, the most overall wins by SU since the 2011 season, and the best conference record since 2008. The Pirates also edited the Southwestern record book last year, breaking both the single game and single season records for bases stolen with marks of eight and 111, respectively. The Pirates entered the SCAC tournament as the fourth seed and faced top-ranked Trinity in the first round. Despite a ninth-inning comeback, they fell 3-4 to the Tigers. In the elimination game, the Centenary Gents proved too much to handle as Southwestern fell 15-3 to end the season. Returning for the Pirates is pitcher Brett Marcom, a sophomore from Keller, Texas. In a 2-0 win over Schreiner last season, Marcom pitched the first no-hitter in recent memory for Southwestern. Jake Pawelek comes back for his junior season after earning All-SCAC accolades as a designated hitter during 2014. Pawelek led the pirates with a .417 on base percentage and hit .294 on the season. Also returning for the team is Colten Shea, who joined Pawelek as a SCAC honoree, receiving Honorable Mention recognition. Shea paced the team with 18 stolen bases and tied a record set by teammate Zach Lynch with four stolen bases in a game. Shea’s
mark of 18 on the season ranked second in the SCAC. As a freshman, Clayton Sparks led the Pirates with a .314 batting average in 137 at bats. He totaled 43 hits, which ranked second among the team, posting eight doubles, two triples and 26 RBIs, all of which led the Pirates squad. Another underclassmen, Will Cates, returns to the team for his second season. Cates was the only Pirates’ player to post more than one home run on the season, doing so in 138 at bats, while recording a batting average of .239. Jacob Kendra, a sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif., led the team last season with an ERA of 3.97 in 45.1 innings pitched. Kendra posted a record of 5-1 on the mound. The Pirates will begin the season with the Shirley Miller Alumni Game on February 7 before hitting the road for the next 10 games. The squad will return home March 3 to take on Cardinal Stritch before beginning SCAC-play March 6 against Texas Lutheran in Georgetown. Another long-stretch on the road will follow this series as the team travels to Belton, Tex• The Pirates recorded as to take on UMHB their best record in three before making a trip seasons during the 2014 to Tucson, Ariz. for campaign, recording 14 wins overall and 10 in conthree games.

BULLDOGS 2015 SEASON PREVIEW
54
The 2014 campaign was marked by exciting changes all around Texas Lutheran Baseball. The Bulldogs played their first season in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, finishing second in the league standings and fighting for a second straight NCAA Division III Tournament berth in the conference tournament final. The Bulldogs also played their first-ever home games under the lights at Katt-Isbel Field after the addition of lights as part of the TLU athletics facilities improvement plan. The Bulldogs finished last season with a 27-17 record and an 11-7 mark in SCAC play. They certainly made an impact as the newcomers, placing seven players on the All-SCAC Baseball Team. They also ended the season just shy of an NCAA Tournament appearance, falling to Trinity in the conference championship final. While last season provided plenty of excitement, that success, along with a history of continued prosperity, has built an air of optimism around the TLU program. Three of the seven All-SCAC players from last year’s squad are back for 2015, led by senior outfielder Tony Gennusa and senior pitcher Aaron Aleman. Gennusa (Kingwood, Texas) scored 30 runs and stole a team-high 16 bases. He hit .293 and collected 48 hits, nine doubles, two triples and three home runs (second on team). Aleman (Corpus Christi, Texas) won a team-best eight games, tying him for the SCAC lead, going 8-2, and posted an ERA of 3.11. He started 12 games and tossed three complete games and one shutout. Senior shortstop Zach Jacobs (Brenham, Texas) will also provide senior leadership after earning All-SCAC Honorable Mention last season. Jacobs hit .264 with 27 runs scored, 25 RBI, 38 hits, six doubles, two triples and a home run. Jacobs stole 11 bases in 13 attempts and registered a team-best 10 sacrifice hits. Those players, along with the other returning Bulldogs like Klaus Bohrmann, Lincoln Baylor and Von Wendel, will have to replace a number of key cogs from last year’s squad. TLU will replace seven position players who started at least 16 games last year, including three of the top four batting averages on the team. Fortunately, the top three RBI producers are all back. The pitching staff will look vastly different in 2015, as well.
Aleman leads a group that returns just two of its nine top innings throwers from last year. Aleman will be the only pitcher from the TLU starting rotation to return, with the Bulldogs most notably needing to replace Dwayne Snider, who served as the team’s ace last season. Snider finished one vote shy of the conference Pitcher of the Year award, racking up a 1.81 ERA in nearly 80 innings of work. The Bulldogs will be able to rely on Thomas Harwell (Humble, Texas) in the bullpen as a steadying influence. The senior was the team’s most utilized weapon out of the bullpen, throwing 32 and 2/3 innings with an ERA of 3.03. His 29 strikeouts were good for third best on the team. Texas Lutheran will open up the season with a prestigious home tournament. The Bulldogs open the year by hosting the Texas Lutheran/Trinity Tournament and welcoming strong programs George Fox, Concordia Texas and Whittier College to play under the lights at Katt-Isbel Field. The Bulldogs’ first two games will come against Whittier College on Feb. 6 and 7. “We just tried to create as challenging a schedule as possible, and I feel like we’ve done that,” Burnett said. “I’m excited about the teams coming into that opening tournament. The chance to have Whittier and George Fox is really exciting. Those are two well-respected teams in the West. With those teams and the teams from the ASC coming in, we feel we have a very strong field. “We want this tournament to become an annual tradition and we’re really excited about being able to host it.” Texas Lutheran will open its second season in the SCAC with a home series against Centenary in late February. The Bulldogs will play three-game series against all six conference teams, with Centenary and Southwestern on the schedule twice. The SCAC Championship is slated for May 1-3, with the location determined by the winner of the regular-season title. The top four teams advance into the conference tournament. QUICK NOTES • In their first season with the SCAC, the Bulldogs finished second overall, posting a record of 11-7 in conference play • During the SCAC tournament, TLU made it all the way to the championship game, but fell to top-seeded Trinity • Four of the Bulldogs’ seven All-SCAC players from the 2014 season will be returning to the team this year • Just two of the top nine pitchers from last season will be returning this year

TIGERS 2015 KEY RETURNERS JEREMY WOLF
JR., OF, SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ.
56
Wolf, a junior outfielder, returns for his third season with the Tigers in 2015, following his All-SCAC selection last year. Wolf led Trinity with 17 doubles during last year’s campaign, starting all 43 games. He also started 40 games as a first-year player, hitting .298 with eight doubles, 21 RBI, and 23 runs scored. Wolf is one of two returning starters in the outfield for the Tigers, and as the leader in RBI among returning lettermen, the team will look to him as a major force offensively.
DREW BUTLER
JR., C/1B, PHOENIX, ARIZ. Butler, a senior catcher and designated hitter, batted .358 (38-106) in 2014, which would have been the best on the team had he not missed several games due to injury during the season. Butler also drove in 27 runs and posted a teambest .594 slugging percentage. He split time as catcher and designated hitter for the Tigers, starting 29 of his 31 games on the year. Butler was probably the biggest surprise of the season for the team in 2014. After not having a plate appearance as a first-year player, he picked up a hit in each of his first six games, highlighted by a pinch-hit grand slam in a win over Centenary.

CONNOR MOORE
JR., INF, PHOENIX, ARIZ. Moore, a junior second baseman, has opened his career by hitting over .300 in each of his first two seasons, and will look to make it three straight to open his career. Moore will be a key part of an infield that returns three of four starters, and he has been the team’s starting second baseman each of the past two seasons. He batted leadoff for nearly the entire 2014 season, leading the team in runs scored and stolen bases. Moore will once again play a key role in setting the table for the Trinity offense that has scored over 300 runs in each of his first two seasons.
ZACK SPEER
SR., RHP, BELLAIRE, TEXAS Speer, a senior pitcher, will be back in action after earning SCAC Pitcher of the Year honors for an 8-2 season in which he posted a paltry 1.76 ERA, and struck out a team-best 62 batters in his 76.2 innings of work. The right-hander led the conference in strikeouts and wins last year, and was in the top five in ERA and innings pitched. After a rough start to his career (0-2 record in 2012), Speer was 9-0 with a 1.51 ERA in 2013, picking up 70 strikeouts. As the team’s ace on the pitching staff, Speer will be looking to lead a staff that has totaled an ERA of less than 2.50 each of the past two seasons.

TIGERS 2015 SEASON PREVIEW
60
The Trinity baseball team will have nine returning starters when the Tigers open their campaign on February 6 at home against the University of Texas-Tyler. Trinity, led by 17th-year Head Coach Tim Scannell, has received a No. 16 national preseason ranking by D3baseball.com. The Tigers completed the 2014 season with a 33-10 record and a No. 11 ranking in the American Baseball Coaches Association Poll (17th by D3baseball.com). The Tigers won their eighth Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship under the direction of Coach Scannell, and competed in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fifth consecutive season (ninth overall). The Tigers captured the SCAC Championship with a victory over Texas Lutheran University, in the tournament played at the Trinity Baseball Field. Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, was the site of the NCAA Regional. The Tigers fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and defending national champion Linfield in the double-elimination event. “The fans will see a strong, deep pitching staff that has some power to it,” Coach Scannell said of the upcoming season. “We have a capable offense, with the potential to be really good. Overall, we have a nice balance of returners and newcomers. The biggest potential impact will be the core of guys who will be sophomores and juniors, who haven’t played much. But, it looks like they will knock down the door and play. Fans will also see good defense up the middle.” For his efforts, Coach Scannell was elected SCAC Coach of the Year for the fifth straight time, and ninth overall. Coach Scannell’s record at Trinity is 518-208, a winning percentage of .713 over 16 seasons. Senior right-hander Zack Speer leads the group of three returning starting pitchers, included in the group of eight hurlers who made a special impact last season. Speer, the SCAC Pitcher of the Year, earned a spot on the D3baseball.com All-West Region Third Team. A 2013 Honorable Mention All-American, Speer led the Tiger pitching staff with an 8-2 record and a 1.76 ERA in 13 appearances. He struck out 62 batters in 76.2 innings of work, holding opponents to a .237 batting average, and allowing only 15 runs and 21 total walks. Junior left-hander Michael Walker was selected for the All-SCAC Team. Walker, who started 10 games, sported a 4-3 record and 2.88 ERA in 11 appearances on the mound. He also picked up a save, and struck out 25 batters over 59.1 innings. Junior left-hander Ryan Gray, an All-SCAC honoree, went 3-0 with a 2.11 ERA. Gray started nine games in 10 appearances, and pitched 42.2 innings. He fanned 45 opposing players. Right-handed sophomore reliever Kevin Flores made the Honorable Mention All-SCAC Team. Flores also had a 3-0 record, along with two saves and a 1.25 ERA. He pitched 21.2 innings and sent 22 players to the dugout. Also adding to the depth on the mound are senior right-hander Trent Rape (2-0, 2.08 ERA over 21.2 innings, 20 strikeouts), senior right-hander Nicholas Griffith (2-0, 0.61 ERA over 14.2 innings, 11 strikeouts), junior right-hander Teddy Turner (4-2, two saves, 3.51 ERA over 33.1 innings, 28 strikeouts), and senior right-hander Matthew Tindall (0-1, one save, 1.56 ERA over 17.1 innings, 14 strikeouts). As a unit, Tiger pitchers, led by pitching Coach David Smith, were ranked No. 5 in the nation with a 2.36 ERA. Trinity was also ranked third in hits allowed per nine innings (7.23). Six position players are back to spark the Tigers offense and maintain a taut defensive posture. Helping to guide the Trinity players are Assistant Coaches Zach Fregosi, J.C. Bunch, and Kevin Clements.
Junior outfielder Jeremy Wolf, an All-SCAC recipient, batted .336, scored 18 runs, and smacked 37 RBI. Wolf led the team in doubles (17), and also cracked three triples to go with a pair of home runs. Last summer, Wolf gained valuable experience as he was chosen for the All-Coastal Plain League First Team. Wolf was a member of the Petersburg (VA) Generals team of the premier collegiate league. Austin Singer, a junior outfielder, hit .314, scored 30 runs, drove in 21 runs, blasted six doubles and two triples, and made one round-tripper. Junior infielder Carter McEachern batted .309, with 27 runs, 23 RBI, three doubles, and two home runs. Junior infielder Connor Moore was ranked No. 12 in the nation in stolen bases, with 28. Moore hit .305, led the Tigers with 48 runs, and posted 23 RBI, and six doubles. Singer, McEachern, and Moore joined Wolf on the All-SCAC Team. Drew Butler, a junior infielder and All-SCAC player, leads the returning Tiger players with five home runs. Butler, batted .358, with 17 runs, 27 RBI, and eight doubles. Junior infielder Nick Jewett went .262 at the plate, and scored 28 runs, along with hitting 17 RBI, five doubles, and two home runs. The Tigers were ranked 12th nationally in home runs, with 29. Defensively, Trinity received a No. 3 ranking in double plays per game (1.14) and a No. 4 position in total doubles plays (49.0) In the SAC flies department, the Tigers hit 36 during the season and were ranked No. 5 in Division III. As a team, Trinity batted .305, while the opposition hit .227. The Tigers scored 7.0 runs per game, and yielded only 3.2 per match-up. In the fall of 2014, the Tigers traveled to Norman, Oklahoma, to take on the University of Oklahoma in an exhibition game. The main purpose was to assist in a fundraising drive in the battle against breast cancer. Coach Scannell had served as an assistant to Sooners Coach Pete Hughes, who led the Tigers from 1997-1998. Oklahoma won the game 8-5, but not before a super effort from the Trinity players. “They definitely learned to play up,” Coach Scannell said, about his Tiger charges. “We feel like leadership is a big thing, and the players displayed that in the fall.” Four key starters were lost to graduation, including outfielder Pat Hirschberg, an All-Region and All-SCAC honoree. Three of the four starters now play professional baseball. Pitcher Kyle Bogese is with the Philadelphia Phillies organization, infielder Christian Muscarello plays for a Minor League Team of the St. Louis Cardinals, and catcher Chris Bianchi signed with the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association. Including the February 6 opener with the University of Texas-Tyler, Trinity will host 20 games on its home field. George Fox University (OR) and Whittier College (CA) come to campus February 7. A total of 12 SCAC games will be played on Trinity’s campus, beginning with the University of Dallas February 21-22. Austin College wraps up the Tigers’ regular-season home schedule April 25-26 in conference match-ups. The SCAC Championship is slated for May 1-3, to be hosted by the team with the best regular-season conference record.
