about the cover Throughout the 2015-16 academic year, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) will celebrate its 25th anniversary as a co-educational NCAA Division III athletics conference. The conference’s origins date to 1962 when the College Athletic Conference (CAC) was formed to provide an association through which member institutions could compete in intercollegiate sports activities among teams representative of their respective student bodies. A primary tenet of this conference was a shared commitment to the priority of the overall quality of academic standards and quality educational experiences. The next evolution of the conference took place prior to the 1991-92 academic year when the league moved to add women’s athletics as part of its sports sponsorship lineup and, as part of this rebirth, changed its name to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The idea behind the SCAC and the commitments made by those charter members in 1991 remain in place today. SCAC member institutions are committed to sponsoring a variety of varsity sports to maximize opportunities for student participation. SCAC schools also operate under the principle that participation in sports should be solely from student interest and enjoyment of athletic competition, and that no financial aid shall be given to any student which is conditional upon athletic ability or participation in intercollegiate sports. SCAC member institutions support students in their efforts to reach high levels of performance by providing them with adequate facilities, competent coaching and appropriate competitive opportunities with students from similar institutions. The SCAC is currently comprised of Austin College of Sherman, Texas; Centenary College of Shreveport, Louisiana; Colorado College of Colorado Springs, Colorado; University of Dallas of Irving, Texas; Schreiner University of Kerrville, Texas; Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas; Texas Lutheran University of Seguin, Texas; and Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas. The SCAC office is located in Lawrenceville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.

history of the scac The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) was founded and began operation on September 1, 1962, as the College Athletic Conference (CAC). Centre College of Danville, Kentucky; Southwestern at Memphis (Tennessee) (now known as Rhodes College); The University of the South of Sewanee, Tennessee; and Washington and Lee University of Lexington, Virginia, were the four charter members of the conference. Later in 1962, Washington University of St. Louis, Missouri, became the fifth member and the CAC remained unchanged until 1972. Following membership changes throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the conference went through restructuring and renaming. With the addition of Millsaps College of Jackson, Mississippi, and Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas, in 1988 and Hendrix College of Conway, Arkanasas, and Oglethorpe University of Atlanta, Georgia, in 1991, membership reached a then all-time high of eight. That same year (1991), the conference renamed itself the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, hired its first full-time commissioner Stephen P. Argo - and a permanent conference office was established in Atlanta, Georgia. As part of restructuring, the league also adopted its current primary mark and adopted blue (pms 287) and gold (pms 131) as the official colors of the conference. Membership changes continued throughout the '90s. The SCAC added Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas, in 1993 with participation beginning in the 1994-95 academic year. In 1997-98, the SCAC added both DePauw University of Greencastle, Indiana, and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology of Terre Haute, Ind., with participation beginning in 1998-99. As part of a year-long celebration in 2005-06, the league celebrated its 15th anniversary as the restructured SCAC. The league adopted a special anniversary logo (pictured left) and as part of the celebration, 15th anniversary teams were selected for all conference sponsored sports. After Rose-Hulman announced its intentions to leave the conference, Austin College of Sherman, Texas and Colorado College of Colorado Springs, Colorado, were confirmed as the 10th and 11th members of the league in 2006 with participation beginning in the 2006-07 academic year. Birmingham-Southern College of Birmingham, Alabama, a former member of the Division I Big South Conference, was approved as the 12th member of the SCAC and began play in 2007-08. Prior to the 2010-11 academic year, DePauw University announced that it would leave the conference. The University of Dallas was quickly tabbed to replace DePauw effective July 1, 2011 - maintaining the league's membership total at 12 institutions. In 2010-11, the league celebrated its 20th anniversary as the restructured SCAC. As part of the celebration, in addition to the use

of a special mark, the league office selected the Top 20 moments for each conference-sponsored sport. Those moments were announced throughout the 2010-11 academic year. After the conclusion of the June 7, 2011 SCAC Presidents’ meeting, the conference announced that seven of its twelve member institutions would be leaving to form a new conference effective at the conclusion of the 2011-12 academic year. The schools departing include founding CAC/SCAC members Centre College, Sewanee-The University of the South, and Rhodes College, in addition to Birmingham-Southern College, Hendrix College, Millsaps College, and Oglethorpe University. With membership down to five institutions – the conference’s lowest number since the 1979-80 academic year – the “new” SCAC wasted little time in adding to its membership rolls. On September 28, 2011, Centenary College of Louisiana, a former American Southwest Conference institution, announced it would be joining the SCAC beginning in the 2012-2013 season. Two more ASC schools will join the SCAC for the 2013-14 season: Schreiner University announced their decision on January 23, 2012, and on February 16, 2012, Texas Lutheran University announced it too would join the SCAC. The addition of Texas Lutheran insured that the conference would retain its status as an active NCAA Division III conference as well as automatic bids in nine of its 14 AQ sports, including baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, softball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and volleyball. On the national athletics stage, the SCAC has had its fair share of success - both in terms of team championships (eight) and individual championships (33).

2010-2011
7 In the days when the league was known at the College Athletic Conference, Chris Fugman of Centre College gave the conference its first individual title with a victory in the 400 IM at the 1980 NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships, and Chris Trapp of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the men’s javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Track Field national championships three straight years (1984-1986). Nao Kinoshita of Rhodes College won the 1996 Division III women’s tennis singles title, capturing the first individual national title in the SCAC era. Kinoshita also won the 1997 singles title and combined with Taylor Tarver to capture the ‘97 doubles title. Ryan Loftus of Rose-Hulman captured the men’s pole vault title at the 1998 Indoor Track & Field championships. Heather Stone of University of the South-Sewanee claimed both the women’s indoor and outdoor 1,500 meter titles in 2000. And later that same season, the league claimed its first team national championships as Trinity University won both the men’s and women’s tennis titles. In the winter of 2003, Matt Smith of Rose-Hulman won the 100 yard breaststroke at the Division III men’s national swimming championships, and Trinity captured the women’s basketball championship - all in the same weekend. The following fall (in 2003), the Trinity men’s soccer team gave the league title #4, and the DePauw women’s basketball team became the fifth team from the conference to win a national championship when it captured the 2006-07 Division III title. Trinity’s Christyn Schumann won the women’s high jump at three consecutive NCAA Outdoor Track & Field national championships (2004-06), and Liz Bondi of DePauw captured the 16th individual national championship won by a CAC/SCAC student-athlete when she won the 2007 women’s tennis singles title. The 2008-09 season was a banner year as one team and three individual student-athletes won national titles for the SCAC. Todd Wildman of Trinity won the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field national championships and Chrys Jones of Centre College won the triple jump at the Outdoor Track & Field national championships. On the links, the Oglethorpe University men earned the league’s sixth team title with a first-place finish at the NCAA Golf Championships. The Petrels were led by Olafur Loftsson, who earned medalist honors and the league’s 19th individual title. In 2009-10, the SCAC had four different individuals win a total of five national titles. Todd Wildman of Trinity won his second-consecutive

indoor national title in the pentathlon. Centre’s Chrys Jones double-dipped and claimed national titles in the triple jump at the both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor national championships. At the 2010 NCAA Swimming & Diving championships, Trinity teammates Lindsay Martin and Hayley Emerick claimed individual titles in the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, respectively. In 2010-11, Chrys Jones became just the second SCAC student-athlete to win four career individual national titles as he repeated at the NCAA Indoor national championships in the triple jump. Centre’s Chris Morris earned the league its 26th individual national title when he claimed medalist honors at the 2011 NCAA Golf Championships. The 2011-12 academic year was one of the most successful in the league’s 50-year history. Tiarra Goode of Birmingham-Southern College won the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field national championships, Jordan DeGayner of Colorado College won the 200 free at the NCAA Swimming & Diving national championships and Ruth Hahn of Trinity University continued the Tigers’ diving dominanace with an individual title on the 3-meter board. Later in the spring, SCAC student-athletes earned two more individual national titles with Anthony Maccaglia of Oglethorpe University earning the league its third medalist in four years at the NCAA Men’s Golf championship and Birmingham’s Goode picked up her second individual national title with a win in the 100-meter hurdels at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field championships. In addition, Oglethorpe University earned the conference its seventh team national title with a victory at the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. The “new” SCAC returned to national prominence in 2013-14 as Stephen Culberson of Trinity University won the 100 free at the 2014 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships and, in its first year in the conference, Schreiner University gave the conference its eighth team national championship with a victory at the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships - the league’s third national title in the sport in six years. A bell, donated by the Norfolk and Western Railway, was adopted as the SCAC’s “President’s Trophy” and serves as the symbol for the conference. The President’s Trophy is displayed for one year on the campus of the school with the combined men’s and women’s athletics program that accumulates the highest points total in the all-sports race established by the conference. The bell is awarded at the conclusion of the spring season.

2015 season preview
With 13 players returning from last year’s team, including six players who started at least one game over course of the year, the Austin College men’s basketball team will be looking to get back to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in 2015-2016. The ‘Roos finished the year with an overall record of 8-17, missing the postseason for the first time under head coach Rodney Wecker. The ‘Roos feature a lot of returning experience this year, but only one senior on the roster in Cedric Hudson. Hudson, along with juniors Brian Baehl, Alan Sullivan, and Jeremy Swisher, will be looking to lead the team to the top of the SCAC in the upcoming year. Baehl earned All-Conference honors after averaging 10.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists-per-game. The 6-foot-2 guard can play either guard position, and is one of the team’s most versatile scorers in addition to being its top facilitator. Swisher joined Baehl in double-digits, as the 6-foot-3 swing player averaged 10.2 points-per-game on the year, and Hudson came on strong down the stretch to provide another scoring and rebounding option. The 6-foot-5 forward finished the season averaging 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds-per-game, with his scoring average rising to 8.6 points-per-game in SCAC play. The 6-foot-7 Sullivan is another All-SCAC performer who offers a matchup problem for opposing forwards, as he can play either forward position and stretch the floor with his jumper. Last season, Sullivan averaged 7.9 points-per-game, and knocked down 26 three pointers on the year. Helping out up front will be 6-foot-5 junior forward Austin Freet, another All-SCAC player who averaged 5.9 points and 6.6 rebounds-per-game a year ago, with his rebounding numbers jumping to 7.2 per-game against SCAC schools. Junior center Stephen Igbinosa, an athletic 6-foot-8 player whose ability to
run the floor makes him dangerous in transition, is an outstanding shot blocker and finished last year averaging 5.2 points while shooting 51.7% from the field. This year Wecker will be looking to a strong group of freshman post players to take some of the rebounding burden off of Freet and Igbinosa, led by 6-foot-9 Justin Wade. Fellow freshmen James Buck and JP Feider will also help out down low, with each player checking in at 6-foot-7. One of the strengths of this year’s team will be its perimeter shooting, with Baehl, Swisher, and Sullivan all capable of getting hot from deep, in addition to junior guards Andres Rivera and Josh Dickerman. Last season the 5-foot-10 Rivera connected on 19 three pointers, while Dickerman knocked down triples at a clip of 33% for the year. Another threat from long distance is 6-foot-3 swingman Cody Meyers, while 6-foot-6 forward John Pass also has the ability to stretch the floor. With 20 players on the roster, depth won’t be an issue for Wecker’s team. Junior swingman Will Kollet returns, as do sophomores Chris Essien and Josh Garrett. Jordin Rosinbaum adds another shooter off the bench, while freshman guards Patrick Johnson and Christian Chiles will bolster the point guard position for Wecker’s team this season and allow Baehl to spend some time playing off the ball. This year’s team features a good combination of size and skill, and could very well find themselves climbing the SCAC ladder in the quest for a conference title in 2015-2016. The ‘Roos kick off the regular season with a road game at LeTourneau on November 14. • The ‘Roos will be led by Head Coach Rodney Wecker in his ninth season

ADAM WALSH
TOM JACKSON Volunteer Assistant Coach
Going from one of the youngest NCAA Division I coaches to leading Centenary men’s basketball to the most decorated team in the NCAA Division III Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference the past three years, head coach Adam Walsh is looking to lead the Gents to new heights for his sixth season in 201516. The honors achieved by the Gents under Walsh’s tutelage are staggering the past three seasons: Threestraight Conference Players of the Year, three-straight Newcomers of the Year, four All-Americans, four All-District selections, 12 All-Conference honors, and 12 SCAC Player of the Week recognitions. In 2014-15, the Centenary College men’s basketball team claimed its first conference title in 25 years. The Gents also finished as SCAC Tournament runners-up in both 2014 and 2015. Coach Walsh captured 2013-2014 SCAC Coach of the Year honors, helping the Maroon and White finish second in the conference after being slated to finish sixth in the preseason by the conference coaches. Centenary improved from a 9-15 record the season before to an 18-10 record in 13-14. He is the first men’s basketball coach at Centenary to earn a conference Coach of the Year honor since Tommy Vardeman was named the Trans America Athletic Conference (now Atlantic Sun Conference) Coach of the Year in back-to-back seasons in 1989-90 and 1990-91. Walsh holds a 56-75 record in his five seasons with the Gents, including a 55-46 record after a 1-29 record during in his first season in 2010-2011. The 2014-15 squad finished 17-10 and 11-3 in the SCAC, claiming the conference crown despite selected to finish third in the preseason by the conference coaches. The Gents also began the year 1-2 in conference, winning 10-of-11 games to finish the regular season. James Sapp – an Honorable Mention All-American, a two-time All-District selection, and SCAC Player of the Year – captured All-Conference First Team honors along with Travion Kirkendoll. The Maroon and White boasted five All-Conference honorees. In 2013-14, Centenary boasted an 18-10 overall mark (10-4 SCAC), secured the second seed in the Conference Tournament, and finished as the runner-up in the SCAC Tournament. Individually, Blount repeated
as an All-American and SCAC Player of the Year. That season, the Maroon and White finished the year with the program’s first winning season since 2003-04. For his accomplishments, Walsh took home SCAC Coach of the Year Honors. The SCAC Tournament finals appearance was the first for Centenary in 23 years. Following the difficult 2010-11 season, Walsh has led the Gents to a 38-37 overall mark the next two seasons. In 2012-2013, Centenary claimed both the Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors and three All-Conference selections. Blount captured All-American and All-District accolades as well as the first Player of the Week award for a Gent since Alexander Staff on February 12, 2007 in the Summit League. Brett Bell won SCAC Newcomer of the Year, joining Caden Cheramie on the Honorable Mention squad. siana “Freshman of the Year” and Third-Team honors, respectively in the 2009-10 season. Walsh joined Centenary in 2007 directly from Paris Junior College where he assisted the Dragon program from 2006-07. He was in charge of recruiting, post-skill development, and strength and conditioning among other duties. During his stint at Paris Junior College, Walsh helped first-year head coach Ross Hodge lead the Dragons to a 26-4 record and TEAC “Coach of the Year” honors. There he also helped developed two junior college All-American forwards in Ramon Clemente (06-07) and Eric Tramiel (07-08) and recruited Raymond Sims, among others, who would lead the Dragons to 57 wins in two years at the point guard position. Prior to his time at Paris, Walsh spent the 2005-2006 season as the assistant at Odessa College under Dennis Helms. From 2003-05, Walsh took on the role as assistant coach under Ronnie Arrow at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. For the 2001-2003 seasons Walsh was an assistant coach for the Division II program, Barton College, under Ron Lievense. Walsh hails from Winchester, Virginia and is the son of Nancy and Phil Walsh. He was a 2000 graduate of High Point University and graduated from James Wood High School. Walsh recently married Nicole Rapagnani. He and his wife are active in Athletes in Action, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

season preview
In 2015-16 after finishing last season as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season champions, the Gents will take their turn as the favorite in the Preseason Conference Poll. “It gives us a good idea of expectations for the season,” remarked Head Coach Adam Walsh, who will begin his sixth year with Centenary. “In case our guys did not already know, we’re expected to have a solid season this year and it puts a bulls-eye on our back. It’s something for our guys to remember every day, and it’s something to challenge our guys. I hope we can use it in a good way. You would rather be picked last and finish first rather than the other way around, but I hope the daily challenge is there for our guys to live up to the standards that others see in our program.” The Maroon and White return 76.3 percent of its scoring from the 2014-15 season. The list of returners includes junior forward James Sapp (Shongaloo, La./ULM) and sophomore guard Travion Kirkendoll (Campti, La./Lakeview HS), who received SCAC Player and Newcomer of the Year recognition last season. With those accolades, Centenary is the first school in the history of men’s basketball in teams’ respective conference to win both awards three consecutive seasons. In 2014-15, Sapp became only the second sophomore in conference history, and the first in 23 years, to be named Player of the Year. Sapp, who was one of only 24 players named Preseason All-America by DIII News, also received Honorable Mention All-American laurels from the organization last season. Other accolades include All-South Region honors from D3hoops.com, National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District hon-
ors, and was also the only non-Division I men’s basketball player named to the All-Louisiana Team. Sapp led the conference with 16.3 points per game for 2014-15. Kirkendoll, despite playing on a squad where four different players averaged double-digit scoring, finished fourth in the SCAC with 12.9 points per game. Kirkendoll took Freshman All-America honors from DIII News. The Gents also return junior forward Kendall Demouchet (Lafayette, La./Northside Senior HS), who led the conference in steals and been in the top two in blocks his first two seasons with the Gents. Last season, Demouchet finished sixth in scoring in the conference with 12.8 points per game in 2014-15. Receiving Third Team honors in 2013-14 and Second Team last season, Demouchet is the only junior this season to appear on the First, Second or Third Team All-Conference the past two seasons. Another player to watch for the Gents this season is junior guard Brandon Campbell (Mansfield, La./Mansfield HS), who finished second on the team last year (and is the leading Gent returner) with 1.85 assists per game. He also contributed 7.9 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. The Gents add four players for this season in guard Treylan Matthews (Houstin, Texas/Summer Creek HS), Shreveport-native and guard Dominique Kennedy (Shreveport, La./Loyola College Prep), and forwards Mitchell Tarantolo (Austin, Texas/L.C. Anderson HS) and Grant Miller (Dallas, Texas/Dallas Academy). • The Gents will return after earning the regular season title during the 2014-15 season

ANDY partee
Andy Partee, now in his 10th season as head coach at Colorado College, has guided the program to its most successful run since the mid-1990s. The Tigers recorded double-digit victories during each of the last six seasons, posting a combined 84-70 record. That stretch includes five consecutive trips to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament, including back-toback appearances in the championship game. To understand how successful the program has become, one must consider where it came from during Partee’s second season when he played his initial recruiting class during a winless 2007-08 campaign. It paid off with those same players defeating Division I Air Force Academy to start a 2010-11 season that ended with a 14-12 record, a second-place finish in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference West Division, and the program’s first trip to the league postseason tournament. The foundation is in place for many successful seasons to come thanks to strong recruiting. Partee has brought in some of the best players to ever don a Tigers uniform, including SCAC Player of the Year Nick Rose, a two-time first-team all-conference selection.
WES KOSEL Assistant Coach
Partee brought more than 15 years of coaching and recruiting experience to the Tigers when he was named as head coach in April 2006. He had served as an assistant on the men’s staff at Brown since June 1998, coordinating national recruiting efforts and helping guide Brown to three runner-up finishes in the Ivy League. He earlier spent four seasons (199498) as an assistant coach at Monmouth University, another NCAA Division I program, as well as two campaigns (1992-94) in the Division II ranks, at the University of Northern Colorado. Partee lettered four years at Monmouth, playing point guard his senior year (1991-92) when the Hawks won 20 games for the first time. After he returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach, the team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by claiming a Northeast Conference championship in 1995-96. Partee lives in Monument with his wife Kendra, daughter Halle, and sons Tre and Zevien, who shares May 11 as a birthday with his father.

season preview
Coaches are often compared to professors because of the amount of teaching they do. Some years, coaches need a background in psychology. Other times, it comes down to physics. This year, head coach Andy Partee will need to be a professor of chemistry since that will be the key to success for the Colorado College men’s basketball team during the 2015-16 season. With four starters and 11 veterans returning, the Tigers have the necessary elements to turn hard work in the gymnasium/laboratory into victories on the court. Before the season tips off on Sunday, Nov. 22 at Grinnell College, the coaching staff must experiment with possible lineups to figure out what combination will yield the desired results. “The question becomes how quickly these guys can establish chemistry,”Partee said.“Not many of our returners have been on the court together for a long period of time. During the initial stages of the season, CC will depend on its most experienced players – the five returning seniors. Leading the way is co-captain Justin Berardino, who averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists a year ago. The point guard’s importance to the team was clearly evident during a 10-game absence last year when the Tigers posted a 4-6 record. “Justin’s leadership and basketball IQ far exceeds any of our returning players,” Partee said.“He is an extension of the staff on the court and we’ll expect a lot out of him this year.” In similar fashion, fellow co-captain James Lonergan missed 12 of 26 games with a hand injury during the 2014-15 campaign. Colorado College’s versatile forward scored double-digit points during the first two contests of the season, but never was able to replicate those performances during the final seven games. “James has the ability to contribute inside and outside at both ends of the court,” Partee said.“More than likely he will be a starting four-man, but he’s a tough match-up for bigger guys.” CC’s top scoring threat from behind the arc is the versatile Luke Winfield, who can play either guard or forward, depending on if the Tigers need to go big or small. Last year, he led the team by hitting 41 of 95 long-range attempts, which was good for a .432 percentage. “Luke has the ability to ignite a scoring run with his outside shooting,”Partee said. “He has the ability to be a three-guard with the flexibility of going to the two spot if we need a bigger lineup.” Point guard Juwan Rohan will see time both as a backup point guard and a defensive stopper, while power forward Tyler Jonas will be brought along slowly as he recovers from surgery during the offseason. “During their first three seasons, our five seniors have gotten a lot of experience and we’re going to lean on them heavily,”Partee said.“Our success will depend on their ability to contribute more than they did last year.” With no juniors on the team, the sophomore class will have a chance to get valuable minutes this season.
Eric Houska had a solid freshman season averaging 6.5 points and 1.7 assists per game, and his performance at both ends of the court will likely put him in the starting lineup this year. Another second-year starter will likely be Andrew Maddock, who will give the Tigers a physical presence in the middle. “Eric is a guy who can defend, but can also get to the rim and score,”Partee said.“Andrew brings more versatility to that spot than Chris Lesnansky did as a sophomore.” Two other sophomores who figure to be in an early eight-player rotation are forwards John Hatch and Chris Martin. “John is our best athlete and Chris is our best rebounder,”Partee said.“Hatch could be a starter, but he’s only played a half year of college basketball. As the best athlete on the team, he needs to be on the court as much as possible.” Sophomores Bobby Roth and Ryan Young, along with the six newcomers, could see more playing time as the season develops. But with seasoned veterans at their positions, they likely are a year away from seeing the court on a consistent basis. “This year’s sophomores will lead the program for the next two seasons”Partee said.“The freshmen have enough ability and potential to become the future of the program two years from now.” The first block of the schedule has Colorado College playing three of its first four games at home, including a visit from Division II Regis University on Nov. 24. After three consecutive road contests, highlighted by a neutral-site showdown with Whitworth University, the Tigers tip-off the second half of the season with three games in the 2015 Pikes Peak Holiday Classic at Reid Arena, highlighted by a visit from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. “The schedule will challenge us because we have historically strong programs like Wisconsin-Whitewater and Whitworth coming here,”Partee said.“Win or lose, it gets us playing at a high level that hopefully we can take into conference play. “Just like playing BYU or Air Force, competing against the best Division III opponents allows us to bring the experience back into our own practices which should help us develop as we prepare for our conference schedule.” CC plays eight of its 14 conference games at home, beginning on Jan. 1-2 when Centenary College invades Reid Arena for back-to-back games. The four-game home stand continues the following week against Trinity University and Schreiner University. A solid start to the conference play could put the Tigers in a solid position to earn a spot in the 2015 SCAC Championship, which will be played Feb. 26-28 in Shreveport, La. “It will be important to establish chemistry sooner than later,”Partee said.“That’s why we teach, why we coach and why we enjoy what we do. We have to get our players around that learning curve as soon as • The Tigers will be possible.”

JARRED SAMPLES Jarred Samples (‘01) enters his eighth season as University of Dallas men’s basketball head coach. He guided the 2014-15 squad to match a program record 18 victories, which matched 2000-01 and 2002-03. Dallas went 7-0 to start to year, the second-best undefeated run since 2000-01 when that unit rattled off 12 in a row. The final record was a six-win improvement overall and two contests better within conference action. After going 18-9 (7-7 SCAC), the Crusaders notched the fourth-seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) and won their first tournament affair since joining the league four seasons ago. It was the first SCAC Semi-finals trip as UD topped Colorado College in the opening tilt of the conference tournament hosted in Irving, Texas. In the Semi-finals, the Navy and White were unable to get past Texas Lutheran University, who eventually claimed the championship. Coach Samples has helped his alma mater produce 11 All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men’s Basketball selections, including seniors Aaron Wyatt, Kym Malone, and Mark Promberger being most recently. Wyatt earned All-SCAC Second Team, while Malone and Promberger received Third Team and Honorable Mention, respectively. In addition, he has seen six Crusaders named to the Association of Division III Independents’ (AD3I) All-Independent Men’s Basketball Team, two tabbed to the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) All-Conference Men’s Basketball Team and three pegged as United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Men’s Basketball All-Americans. Ross Davidson was heralded as the 2010-11 AD3I Men’s Basketball Rookie-of-the-Year. Dallas has made the SCAC Men’s
Basketball Championship Tournament in each of their four seasons competing in the league. In their 2012-13 campaign, the squad reached the SCAC Quarterfinals as the No. 3 seed - a school-best ranking in the bracket. The 2008-09 and 2009-10 teams netted a combined 2-1 record in the NEAC Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament. Coach Samples spent two seasons (2006-08) as men’s basketball assistant coach at the University of Chicago. The Maroons won back-to-back University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships and appeared in the NCAA Tournament. Coach Samples was part of a men’s basketball staff which was named UAA Coaching-Staff-of-the-Year for the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. He was men’s basketball assistant coach for five seasons (2001-06) at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The Pirates were 2004-05 SCAC Men’s Basketball regular-season Co-Champions (11-3), had the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Year, three All-SCAC Men’s Basketball First Team honorees and the university’s first National Association of Basketball Coaches Division III All-American. Coach Samples has served as a men’s basketball camp instructor at Princeton University (2008), Harvard University (2008), Southwestern University (Texas; 2002-05), the University of North Carolina (2005), Georgetown University (2005) and the University of Kansas (2000-05). A four-year letterwinner in basketball and golf at the University of Dallas, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in History. Also the assistant athletics director, he resides in Carrollton, Texas, with wife Sarah, daughter Addison and son Max.

season preview
Coming off one of the most historic seasons in program history, the University of Dallas men’s basketball team looks to bring another breath of excitement to the 2015-16 campaign. The Crusaders earned a trip to their first season Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) semi-final in four seasons since joining the league. Dallas boasted an 18-9 overall record, which tied the 2000-01 and 2002-03 win totals. UD also would open the year with seven-straight victories, which is the second longest undefeated start since the 2000-01 squad launched a 12-0 start. Dallas would go 9-2 at the Maher Center, which helped the SCAC Tournament’s host get a first round upset by defeating the fourth-seeded Colorado College team, 50-47. The Crusaders managed a 7-7 record against conference foes, but went 1-1 against each program. This included home wins against the co-conference champions, Texas Lutheran University and Centenary College of Louisiana. Entering his eighth season at the helm for the University of Dallas men’s basketball program, Jarred Samples brings a roster of 21 players for the upcoming winter season. 10 of those guys are returners from the previous year’s unit. “This is a new team this year, so we are trying to stay focused on the day-to-day process,” Coach Samples stated. “It’s important for us to stay focused on the details and be consistent. We want to continue to work hard every single day and get better.” Four of UD’s starting five from last season have departed from this year’s roster due to graduation. Among the quartet included: Kym Malone, Aaron Wyatt, Mark Promberger, and Blaine Blackburn. Three of the players reached an All-SCAC Team, and Malone was the league leader in assists. None of the names mentioned in this group missed a start, suiting up in all 27 contests. Junior Michael Sarrat was the lone non-graduate that had his name etched in the starting lineup the majority of the season, making all but one start (Senior Day) for the Crusaders. He was the team’s leading three-point shooter with 56 connected on and second on the team in points-per-game averaged.
“We expect Mike Sarrat to have another good year for us and probably has the most playing experience of anyone,” Coach Samples praised. “Mike has always been a terrific shooter, but we believe he has really improved his overall game, and people will be able to see that during the season.” Other players that were among the supporting cast in UD’s semi-finals run include juniors Lorenzo Gonzalez, Tom Kaiser, and Victor Garate. Sophomore Emmanuel Calton also gained experience in his rookie year and will provide a boost with his athleticism on the court. “Lorenzo Gonzalez is another player who has been part of our rotation the last two years and has worked extremely hard in the offseason both on his skills and in weight, so we believe he is set to have a great year as well,” Coach Samples explained. “Lorenzo is like a coach on the floor because he has such a high basketball IQ and understands what we are trying to execute. Tom Kaiser is another player who put up good numbers last year, and his role will expand this year as we expect him to anchor our front court.” 11 newcomers are on the roster as well, including eight freshmen. Coach Samples referenced them as “a talented group. It will be interesting to see how they adjust to the college game. Our returners have been great helping them with everything to speed up their learning process.” Dallas has scheduled 25 games this season, including 11 at home in the Maher Center. On the ledger, the Crusaders will make trips to Roanoke, Virginia, and Boston, which Coach Samples “Is looking forward to, because it gives an opportunity to compete against teams that we typically do not see.” The excitement begins for the Crusaders on November 15, at • The Crusaders Hendrix College. UD will be on posted the second the road for the first five contests, before its home opener on Delongest undefeated cember 6 against the same foe. start in program history last season, beginning the year 7-0

With the loss of starters Stevan Guerrero (11.1 ppg/6 rpg) and Hollis Robinson (5.5 ppg/5.7 rpg) from last year’s squad, Kuykendall will be looking for solid performances from key returners like Juniors Wes Miller (11ppg/3rpg), Jared Thompson (7.7ppg/2.8 rpg), Phillip Kee (7.6 ppg/4.2 rpg), Sophomore Keenan Gumbs (7.2ppg/2rpg), and Senior Christian Pena (9.7ppg/5rpg). 2015 season preview
Southwestern men’s basketball head coach Janson Hightower enters his second season with high hopes. Hightower guided the Pirates to a 15-11 overall record, 8-6 in conference play last season, and an SCAC Championship bid where SU fell in the semifinals. Hightower returns seven from last year’s team including two starters and the top three scorers. Those scorers include SU’s lone senior, Chris Lee, junior Zach Whitlock and sophomore Ryan Ogden. Ogden led the way averaging 10.6 points per game while Lee and Whitlock were close behind at 10.2 and 10.1 respectively. Also returning are Southwestern’s best deep threats, Chris Molina and Ben Stiver. Molina shot 44 percent from three point range, draining a team-high 37 three-pointers last year. Stiver shot 38.6 percent from the floor last season, averaging one per game. Last season, the Pirates averaged 68.6 points per game, which ranked fourth in the conference. The team also shot .419 from
teh field, and .355 from beyond the arc. SU ranked third in the SCAC, pulling down 36.0 rebounds and dishing out 13.5 assists per game. They also had the third best mark in blocks and steals with 3.1 and 6.8, respectively. Much needed height has been added to the roster this season with six first-years, three listed 6’5” or taller. Southwestern opens the season at home on Friday, November 13th, hosting Howard Payne University. The Pirates don’t face an SCAC opponent until the new year, kicking off conference play against Texas Lutheran University in Seguin on January 2nd.

JIMMY smith Jimmy Smith starts his second season as head coach of Texas Lutheran Men’s Basketball after leading the Bulldogs to the 2014-15 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships (tournament and regular-season titles) and to the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament. Smith is 44-37 overall as a head coach (one year at Texas Lutheran, two years at Schreiner). He is 29-18 in conference play (one year in the American Southwest Conference and two years in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference). Smith came to TLU from Schreiner University, where served as head coach for two seasons. Smith was announced as the head coach at TLU on April 7, 2014. He is the ninth head coach in the history of TLU Men’s Basketball. Smith was named the 2014-15 SCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to an 18-10 overall record and an 11-3 mark in the SCAC. TLU entered the SCAC Men’s Basketball Tournament as the No. 1 seed and defeated University of Dallas and Centenary in the tournament to advance to the NCAA Tournament. TLU lost to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, played at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. The 18-10 overall record and 11-3 conference mark were significant improvements from the season prior to Coach Smith’s arrival. The Bulldogs were 9-17 overall and 3-11 in 2013-14. In his first year with the Bulldogs, Smith engineered a nine-win turn-around in the overall record and an eight-win turn-around in the conference mark. TLU went from three total wins over NCAA Division III opponents in 2013-14 to 18 wins against DIII opponents in 2014-15 (a 15win improvement). In addition to his Coach of the Year honor, Smith guided Jordan Kouremetis to SCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors and to a First Team All-SCAC Award. Senior forward Donte McGee was named to the 2014-15 SCAC First Team and was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Year. Smith came to Seguin after spending the last

two years at the helm of the Schreiner program, where he helped lead a quick turnaround for the Mountaineers, amassing a 26-27 record in those two years. Before Smith came to Schreiner, the Mountaineers’ record in their Division III era was 92-253 (.270 win pct.). In just his second season, Smith guided Schreiner to its first winning season since joining the NCAA Division III, finishing 15-12 overall and 10-4 in the SCAC. Smith’s squad finished second in the SCAC standings and reached the semifinals of the SCAC Championship. Two seasons ago, Smith’s Mountaineers set school records (NCAA-era) for wins (15), winning percentage (.556), conference winning percentage (.714) and points per game allowed (68.9). He also coached the 2013-14 SCAC Co-Player of the Year and SCAC Defensive Player of the Year AJ Myres. Before coming to Schreiner, Smith spent three years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. As both a player and coach at UMHB, Smith was part of a winning culture. During his three years as an assistant coach, the Cru racked up a 70-18 record and qualified for three NCAA Tournaments. He also enjoyed an outstanding playing career for UMHB, earning the school’s Male Athlete of the Year award and All-ASC West Division recognition. He was also the first Cru basketball player to receive Academic All-District VI First Team honors. Smith began his coaching career at Sam Houston State University. He joined the Bearkats as an assistant coach in 2004 and spent two years with the basketball program, helping the Bearkats to a 40-21 record during that span. Smith is a husband and a father. Smith and his wife, Lori, are the parents of three young children - two girls and a boy.

2015 season preview
After engineering magical runs to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships and to a first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs and second-year Head Coach Jimmy Smith enter the 2015-16 season with lofty expectations and a few targets on their backs. Smith took over a Bulldog squad that finished last in the SCAC in 2013-14. In one year, Smith and his squad went 18-10 overall and 11-3 in conference play. The team shared the regular-season crown with Centenary College (La.) and then defeated the Gents in the SCAC title game, played at the University of Dallas. (TLU defeated host Dallas in the SCAC semifinal.) The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) and said goodbye to three senior starters Thomas Verm (center), Donte McGee (forward) and Garrett Wilkins (guard). McGee was named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the SCAC First Team and to the SCAC All-Tournament Team. “Last year was a great experience for everyone involved,” said Smith. “It was a big step for the program just to get to that point. The big thing for us this year is that now that we have enjoyed success, we have to build on it. But we have to turn the page and understand that this is a new team and have to do it a different way. We have to figure out who those new people will be to have that success again.” The Bulldogs return SCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player Jordan Kouremetis, a shooting guard who also claimed SCAC First Team All-Conference honors last year. Kouremetis aver-
aged 14.3 points per game, shot 42.5 percent from the arc, and made 79 three-pointers. Kouremetis is joined in the Bulldog backcourt by junior point guard Sterling Holmes, the SCAC’s Co-Newcomer of the Year last season. Holmes averaged 12.5 points per game and started all 28 contests. He hit 43.1 percent of his total shots, 39.4 percent of his threes, and dished out 3.4 assists per game. He also pulled down 4.3 rebounds per contest. Kouremetis scored 14 points in the SCAC Tournament semifinal win over University of Dallas and had 20 points, with five three-pointers, in the championship game victory over Centenary. Kouremetis and the Bulldogs relied heavily on senior leadership last season – with McGee, Verm, Wilkins and back-up guards Joseph Richardson and Joshua Alderman. For 2015-16, the Bulldogs have one senior – reserve guard Kendall Holmes. “It will definitely be different with just one senior,” said Smith. “Last year’s senior group had been through a lot of situations. Now, really, it is only Jordan, Sterling and Zach (Behr) that played a lot of minutes from last year’s team.” “We are depending on guys that were in the program to fill the roles, but also some freshman to step up. We’re going to put out a lot of different lineups and see what people can do well. We are going to use these early games to figure that out. We have the pieces to fill. It’s about who is going to step up.”

2015 season preview
The Trinity Tigers men’s basketball team is ready to start the 2015-16 campaign with a renewed enthusiasm. Last season, Trinity finished with a 5-20 overall record, and a 4-10 mark in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Tigers finished on a high note, winning their last three games of the season. Three seniors were lost to graduation: William Young, Craig Saltarelli, and All-SCAC Third Team honoree Matt Selling. The good news is that 11 returning players will take the floor November 14 when the Tigers open the season at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. Trinity tips off its home schedule November 17 by hosting Concordia University. “We are excited about the coming season,” said Head Coach Pat Cunningham, in his 17th year at the Tigers helm. “We do have some experienced players back, who we hope will use that experience to add to this season’s success.” Jimmy Clark is a fifth-year senior guard who will be playing his fourth season, while earning a master’s degree in health care administration. A hard worker, the 6-foot-3 Clark shot over 39 percent in 3-point range, and averaged 6.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game last season. Four juniors will be joining Clark, in bringing playing experience to this year’s team. Forward AJ Pulliam is back, and was the leading scorer last season. The 6-foot-5 Pulliam accounted for nearly 14 points per matchup, along with 3.5 rebounds, while shooting 49 percent from the field. He also made 22 steals, and blocked 17 shots. The remaining junior class consists of 6-foot-3 guard Khambrel Roach, along with 6-foot-4 forward Josh Ingram. Each played in over 20 games, and started five. Also back is 6-foot-3 guard Joseph Thomas. The sophomore group is a talented list, many who contributed much during last year’s season. Brian Blum, a 6-foot-5 guard, accounted for seven points per game, while shooting over 37 percent. Guard Matt Jones, who stands 5-foot-10, is the leading returner in assists per game, with an average of 3.4 per contest. He also pulled in 3.5 rebounds per game, and was one of the leaders in steals. Nik Oakes, a 6-foot-3 guard, started in eight games a year ago and shot nearly 41 percent from the field. Returning 6-foot-7 forward Aaron Knopp started 12 games, and Matthew Bender, who is also 6-foot-7, played significant minutes on the front line. Jayden Holden, a 6-foot-4 forward, was also a member of the Tigers football team last season. “We are taller than we were a year ago,” Coach Cunningham
commented. “We are working on all aspects of the game, and are hoping to be more of an up-tempo team, as well as being more efficient on the offensive end of the floor.” Height is definitely a characteristic of the six first-year players who are now Trinity Tigers. Winning the height contest is 6-foot-9 forward Ben Beatie of Bainbridge Island, Washington. Kevin Owens is a 6-foot-8 forward from Austin, Texas; and Danny Rivara, who hails from Horseshoe Bay, Texas, comes in at 6-foot-7 in the front court position. Matthew Colliflower is a 6-foot-6 forward from League City, Texas; and Isaiah Specks, from Pearland, Texas, checks in at 6-foot-4. In the backcourt, a newcomer is 6-foot guard Taylor Kim from Atascadero, California. Assistant Coach Ross Burt has been impressed with the preseason work of the returning players and the first-year Tigers. Coach Burt believes a balance of the group will turn out to be a successful venture for the coming year. “The newcomers have brought terrific energy to practice each day, and are accepting the challenge of adjusting to the college level,” said Coach Burt, in his eighth season on the staff. “Our returners have come back with a strong focus on improvement this season, and have been working very hard. Our season will rely heavily on whether or not we can get back to playing strong, Trinity-style defense that has brought us success in the past.” Also back is second-year Assistant Coach David Smith, who retired from the U.S. Army in April 2015. Coach Smith earlier coached the All-Army Team. A total of 13 games are set for the friendly confines of Sams Gym. A big event will be the Trinity Invitational Tournament, to be held December 18-20. The Tigers will take on Hendrix College, Kalamazoo College, and Ripon College. The first of seven conference home games is slated for January 15, when Texas Lutheran University comes to campus. The final regular-season home game is slated for February 13 with Centenary College. Centenary will host the SCAC • Head Coach Pat CunChampionship February 26-28 at ningham will enter Shreveport, Louisiana. The winner receives an automatic bid to the his 17th year at the NCAA Division III Playoffs. helm of the Tigers’ program this year
