about the cover Throughout the 2015-16 academic year, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) will celebrate its 25th anniversary as a co-educational NCAA Division III athletics conference. The conference’s origins date to 1962 when the College Athletic Conference (CAC) was formed to provide an association through which member institutions could compete in intercollegiate sports activities among teams representative of their respective student bodies. A primary tenet of this conference was a shared commitment to the priority of the overall quality of academic standards and quality educational experiences. The next evolution of the conference took place prior to the 1991-92 academic year when the league moved to add women’s athletics as part of its sports sponsorship lineup and, as part of this rebirth, changed its name to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The idea behind the SCAC and the commitments made by those charter members in 1991 remain in place today. SCAC member institutions are committed to sponsoring a variety of varsity sports to maximize opportunities for student participation. SCAC schools also operate under the principle that participation in sports should be solely from student interest and enjoyment of athletic competition, and that no financial aid shall be given to any student which is conditional upon athletic ability or participation in intercollegiate sports. SCAC member institutions support students in their efforts to reach high levels of performance by providing them with adequate facilities, competent coaching and appropriate competitive opportunities with students from similar institutions. The SCAC is currently comprised of Austin College of Sherman, Texas; Centenary College of Shreveport, Louisiana; Colorado College of Colorado Springs, Colorado; University of Dallas of Irving, Texas; Schreiner University of Kerrville, Texas; Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas; Texas Lutheran University of Seguin, Texas; and Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas. The SCAC office is located in Lawrenceville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.

history of the scac The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) was founded and began operation on September 1, 1962, as the College Athletic Conference (CAC). Centre College of Danville, Kentucky; Southwestern at Memphis (Tennessee) (now known as Rhodes College); The University of the South of Sewanee, Tennessee; and Washington and Lee University of Lexington, Virginia, were the four charter members of the conference. Later in 1962, Washington University of St. Louis, Missouri, became the fifth member and the CAC remained unchanged until 1972. Following membership changes throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the conference went through restructuring and renaming. With the addition of Millsaps College of Jackson, Mississippi, and Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas, in 1988 and Hendrix College of Conway, Arkanasas, and Oglethorpe University of Atlanta, Georgia, in 1991, membership reached a then all-time high of eight. That same year (1991), the conference renamed itself the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, hired its first full-time commissioner Stephen P. Argo - and a permanent conference office was established in Atlanta, Georgia. As part of restructuring, the league also adopted its current primary mark and adopted blue (pms 287) and gold (pms 131) as the official colors of the conference. Membership changes continued throughout the '90s. The SCAC added Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas, in 1993 with participation beginning in the 1994-95 academic year. In 1997-98, the SCAC added both DePauw University of Greencastle, Indiana, and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology of Terre Haute, Ind., with participation beginning in 1998-99. As part of a year-long celebration in 2005-06, the league celebrated its 15th anniversary as the restructured SCAC. The league adopted a special anniversary logo (pictured left) and as part of the celebration, 15th anniversary teams were selected for all conference sponsored sports. After Rose-Hulman announced its intentions to leave the conference, Austin College of Sherman, Texas and Colorado College of Colorado Springs, Colorado, were confirmed as the 10th and 11th members of the league in 2006 with participation beginning in the 2006-07 academic year. Birmingham-Southern College of Birmingham, Alabama, a former member of the Division I Big South Conference, was approved as the 12th member of the SCAC and began play in 2007-08. Prior to the 2010-11 academic year, DePauw University announced that it would leave the conference. The University of Dallas was quickly tabbed to replace DePauw effective July 1, 2011 - maintaining the league's membership total at 12 institutions. In 2010-11, the league celebrated its 20th anniversary as the restructured SCAC. As part of the celebration, in addition to the use

of a special mark, the league office selected the Top 20 moments for each conference-sponsored sport. Those moments were announced throughout the 2010-11 academic year. After the conclusion of the June 7, 2011 SCAC Presidents’ meeting, the conference announced that seven of its twelve member institutions would be leaving to form a new conference effective at the conclusion of the 2011-12 academic year. The schools departing include founding CAC/SCAC members Centre College, Sewanee-The University of the South, and Rhodes College, in addition to Birmingham-Southern College, Hendrix College, Millsaps College, and Oglethorpe University. With membership down to five institutions – the conference’s lowest number since the 1979-80 academic year – the “new” SCAC wasted little time in adding to its membership rolls. On September 28, 2011, Centenary College of Louisiana, a former American Southwest Conference institution, announced it would be joining the SCAC beginning in the 2012-2013 season. Two more ASC schools will join the SCAC for the 2013-14 season: Schreiner University announced their decision on January 23, 2012, and on February 16, 2012, Texas Lutheran University announced it too would join the SCAC. The addition of Texas Lutheran insured that the conference would retain its status as an active NCAA Division III conference as well as automatic bids in nine of its 14 AQ sports, including baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, softball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and volleyball. On the national athletics stage, the SCAC has had its fair share of success - both in terms of team championships (eight) and individual championships (33).

2010-2011
7 In the days when the league was known at the College Athletic Conference, Chris Fugman of Centre College gave the conference its first individual title with a victory in the 400 IM at the 1980 NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships, and Chris Trapp of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the men’s javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Track Field national championships three straight years (1984-1986). Nao Kinoshita of Rhodes College won the 1996 Division III women’s tennis singles title, capturing the first individual national title in the SCAC era. Kinoshita also won the 1997 singles title and combined with Taylor Tarver to capture the ‘97 doubles title. Ryan Loftus of Rose-Hulman captured the men’s pole vault title at the 1998 Indoor Track & Field championships. Heather Stone of University of the South-Sewanee claimed both the women’s indoor and outdoor 1,500 meter titles in 2000. And later that same season, the league claimed its first team national championships as Trinity University won both the men’s and women’s tennis titles. In the winter of 2003, Matt Smith of Rose-Hulman won the 100 yard breaststroke at the Division III men’s national swimming championships, and Trinity captured the women’s basketball championship - all in the same weekend. The following fall (in 2003), the Trinity men’s soccer team gave the league title #4, and the DePauw women’s basketball team became the fifth team from the conference to win a national championship when it captured the 2006-07 Division III title. Trinity’s Christyn Schumann won the women’s high jump at three consecutive NCAA Outdoor Track & Field national championships (2004-06), and Liz Bondi of DePauw captured the 16th individual national championship won by a CAC/SCAC student-athlete when she won the 2007 women’s tennis singles title. The 2008-09 season was a banner year as one team and three individual student-athletes won national titles for the SCAC. Todd Wildman of Trinity won the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field national championships and Chrys Jones of Centre College won the triple jump at the Outdoor Track & Field national championships. On the links, the Oglethorpe University men earned the league’s sixth team title with a first-place finish at the NCAA Golf Championships. The Petrels were led by Olafur Loftsson, who earned medalist honors and the league’s 19th individual title. In 2009-10, the SCAC had four different individuals win a total of five national titles. Todd Wildman of Trinity won his second-consecutive

indoor national title in the pentathlon. Centre’s Chrys Jones double-dipped and claimed national titles in the triple jump at the both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor national championships. At the 2010 NCAA Swimming & Diving championships, Trinity teammates Lindsay Martin and Hayley Emerick claimed individual titles in the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, respectively. In 2010-11, Chrys Jones became just the second SCAC student-athlete to win four career individual national titles as he repeated at the NCAA Indoor national championships in the triple jump. Centre’s Chris Morris earned the league its 26th individual national title when he claimed medalist honors at the 2011 NCAA Golf Championships. The 2011-12 academic year was one of the most successful in the league’s 50-year history. Tiarra Goode of Birmingham-Southern College won the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field national championships, Jordan DeGayner of Colorado College won the 200 free at the NCAA Swimming & Diving national championships and Ruth Hahn of Trinity University continued the Tigers’ diving dominanace with an individual title on the 3-meter board. Later in the spring, SCAC student-athletes earned two more individual national titles with Anthony Maccaglia of Oglethorpe University earning the league its third medalist in four years at the NCAA Men’s Golf championship and Birmingham’s Goode picked up her second individual national title with a win in the 100-meter hurdels at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field championships. In addition, Oglethorpe University earned the conference its seventh team national title with a victory at the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. The “new” SCAC returned to national prominence in 2013-14 as Stephen Culberson of Trinity University won the 100 free at the 2014 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships and, in its first year in the conference, Schreiner University gave the conference its eighth team national championship with a victory at the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships - the league’s third national title in the sport in six years. A bell, donated by the Norfolk and Western Railway, was adopted as the SCAC’s “President’s Trophy” and serves as the symbol for the conference. The President’s Trophy is displayed for one year on the campus of the school with the combined men’s and women’s athletics program that accumulates the highest points total in the all-sports race established by the conference. The bell is awarded at the conclusion of the spring season.

2015 season preview
With a strong group of returning players and a big and talented freshman class coming in, the Austin College women’s basketball team will be looking to make some noise in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference during the 2015-2016 season. The ‘Roos will face a difficult task in replacing 1,000 point scorers in Christina Kime and Erin Riley, but Michelle Filander’s squad returns more than enough firepower to earn another berth in the SCAC Tournament this season. Last year the ‘Roos finished 11-15 overall, but the pieces are in place for a jump in the conference standings in the upcoming year. Leading the way will be senior forward Brianna Harvey, who last season averaged 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds-pergame while finishing second in the conference in both field goal percentage and free throw percentage. Junior forward Kendall Heitmeier was another All-SCAC selection last year after averaging 9.1 points, and the stretch forward knocked down three pointers at a clip of 31.3% for the year. One more All-Conference player returns this year, as sophomore point guard Kali Vittallo will be handed the reins with Kime’s graduation. Last season Vittallo averaged 6.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists-per-game while splitting time between the two guard positions. After posting averages of 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds-pergame and swatting away 29 shots, senior Chrissy Ray will slide into the starting center role this season, while Olivia Bailey also returns and looks poised to claim the starting off guard spot after starting six games last season and averaging 2.4 points and 2.9 rebounds-per-game. Depth certainly won’t be a problem for the ‘Roos this year,
as they open the season with 23 players on the roster. Senior guard Katie Gowdy is back for her final season after playing 23 games, starting three last season, while fellow senior Kayla Linthicum adds athleticism on the perimeter. Juniors Olivia Cicci and Madi Aliff return, as do sophomores Lexi Abercrombie, Meghan Lewis, Hailee Meiners, Abby Moses, and Andrea Velez. Filander expects big things from her newcomers, with eight freshmen and one sophomore joining the mix this season. Bryce Frank, a 6-foot-2 post player, will provide immediate help down low, and 5-foot-9 guard Caitlyn Collins will bolster the backcourt. Filander also expects an early impact from 5-foot-11 guard Kelly Lynch. The ‘Roos brought in a strong mix of size and shooting capability in this year’s class, with 6-foot-1 swing player Caitlin Stofferahn providing perimeter shooting, while Kirstin Nance and Tiffany Litton add more size at the forward position at 6-foot-1 and 6-feet, respectively. Sophomore Morgan Laday adds depth on the perimeter, as do Mikayla Gascich and Hannah Richards. While the ‘Roos will be forced to replace the contributions of not only Kime and Riley, but also that of graduated starters Paige Picciotti and Jenna Longo, this year’s team looks to have the combination of size, shooting, and versatility to make the ‘Roos a strong contender in the SCAC in the upcoming year. The ‘Roos open the regular season on November 15 at home against Rhodes College.

JUSTIN leblanc After a successful stint as an assistant with the Gents basketball team, Justin LeBlanc embarks on his first season as the head women’s basketball coach at Centenary College in 2015-16. Working primarily with the guards and on recruiting there was no shortage of accolades acquired by basketball players LeBlanc helped mentor the past three seasons. Included in the honors include three-straight Conference Players of the Year, three-straight Newcomers of the Year, four All-Americans, four All-District selections, 12 All-Conference honors, and 12 SCAC Player of the Week recognitions. The three consecutive Player and Newcomer (Freshman) Player of the Year honors is believed to be the first time in NCAA Men’s Basketball history that feat has been accomplished. LeBlanc helped mentor Jonathon Blount, the 2013 and 2014 SCAC Player of the year. Other honors for Blount include two All-American selections, two National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District honors, 2013-14 LSWA First-Team All-Louisiana distinction, 2013-14 LABC Small College Player of the Year, two First Team All-Conference selections, and five SCAC Player of the Week selections. Blount is a current member of the Araberri, a professional basketball team in Spain. In his last season as an assistant, LeBlanc also recruited and coached James Sapp, the 2014-15 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, a two-time All-District
jairus browning Assistant Coach
honoree and an All-American. As the program’s recruiting coordinator, LeBlanc played an essential role in the program’s recruitment of student-athletes. Just in the past three seasons, LeBlanc has helped recruit 2012-2013 Third Team AllSCAC and Newcomer of the Year Brett Bell, 2013-2014 Third Team All-SCAC and Newcomer of the Year Kendall Demouchet, and 2014-15 First Team All-SCAC and Newcomer of the Year Travion Kirkendoll. Kirkendoll was also named to the DIII News All-Freshmen Team. Prior to his time at Centenary, the native of Larose, Lousiana, served as an assistant coach at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, for four seasons. During his stint at his alma mater, the Majors produced an overall record of 67-43 as well as captured a SCAC title in 2007-08 while advancing to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division III National Tournament. During his four years, he coached and assisted in the development of eight all-conference selections, two NABC All-South Region selections, a SCAC Tournament MVP, and an All-American Selection. LeBlanc was a four-year letter winner for the Majors from 2002-06, where he led his team to four SCAC Tournament appearances. He graduated from Millsaps in 2006 with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in French. In 2011, he received his Master’s degree in Sport Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. He currently resides in Shreveport with his wife Caroline and two sons, Jay and Jackson.

season preview
The Centenary Ladies women’s basketball team welcomes a new era with a familiar face when it kicks off the 2015-16 season. Justin LeBlanc, who helped guide the men’s basketball team as an assistant basketball coach the past five seasons, was named the Ladies new coach for the upcoming season. “I am very excited to get the season started this week,” stated LeBlanc. “Our players have been working very hard in practice, and I’m sure they are ready to go against someone else. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, and we are looking forward to using these early non-conference games to get us where we need to be for when SCAC play rolls around.” Among the returners for Centenary include senior forward Briana Edwards (Shreveport, La./Northwestern State). She received Honorable Mention All-Conference status by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference her first three seasons for the Ladies – one of only two senior this season who have received All-Conference honors each of the last three years. The River City native enters the season ranked third in career rebounds (720) and 10th in career points (693) at Centenary. She needs just 78 rebounds to break the career record. Edwards finished second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and 36th in the nation with 11.6 rebounds per game, one of 53 players returning this season who averaged a double-double in 2014-15. She also broke the 32-year old Centenary record for rebounds in a game with 26 boards against LSU-Shreveport December 9, 2014. Joining Edwards on the All-Conference squad last season among returners for the Ladies is senior forward Rebecca
Thompson (Benton, La./Benton HS). Starting all 24 games played in 2014-15, Thompson finished second on the team in both points (9.1) and rebounds (6.7) per game. The Ladies also return junior guard DeiAnna Hall (Monroe, La./ Neville HS), leading the team in both assists (45) and steals (34). She accomplished this feat despite not appearing in four games for the Maroon and White. Centenary boasts eight newcomers for the upcoming season, including transfers in sophomore guard Samantha Lyons (Iota, La./LSU Shreveport) and junior guard Peyton Hurst (Carrollton, Texas/Hendrix). The five players who will see their collegiate time this season includes guard Erin Temple (New Orleans, La./Cabrini HS), Jasmine Morris (New Orleans, La./Destrehan HS), Savanah Doty (Mesquite, Texas/Poteet HS), Sheridan Smith (Lake Charles, La./Grand Lake HS) and Courtney Mills (Arcadia, La./Arcadia HS). “I am very excited and proud of this year’s incoming class. My staff and I are ready to begin helping these young women reach their full potential both on and off the court,” said LeBlanc. “We have already addressed a number of things with this group in regards to talent, speed, athleticism, and character. We believe great things are ahead for Ladies Basketball. “We are committed to building our program into one that will compete at a championship level. By attracting some of the best players in our region, we believe we are headed in that direction. The Ladies were selected eighth in the SCAC preseason coaches’ poll. • The Ladies return 77% of their scoring from last season
QUICK NOTES
•
Shreveport native Briana Edwards enters the season averaging 10.3 rebounds and 9.9 points per game, she needs to increase her career average in scoring by .1 to become the first Lady to average a double-double for her career.

LIZ doran
Head coach Liz Doran has enjoyed considerable and consistent success during her seven-year tenure at Colorado College entering the 2015-16 season, both on the court and with her team’s success in the classroom. Since becoming head coach in June 2008, she has coached six different players garnering nine all-conference honors, one All-District academic honoree and 46 SCAC Academic Honor Roll student-athletes, pending the June 2016 release of this school year’s basketball honorees. In her first campaign, she led the Tigers to a 16-9 mark behind the play of 2009 Josten’s Trophy Winner and CC Hall of Fame inductee Melanie Auguste, whose jersey number was also retired. The inexperienced 2009-10 squad recorded a 12-13 record as sophomore Becky Luetjen earned second-team all-conference accolades. Luetjen was named to the SCAC first team during an 11-15 (8-8 SCAC West) campaign during the 2010-11 season. The Tigers went 14-12 (10-6 SCAC West) during the 2011-12 season. Luetjen repeated as a first team honoree. Jordy Stephenson garnered honorable mention. Luetjen also made the All-West Region third team for the second year in a row.
Last year, Courtney Tyus became the first Colorado College player to earn all-conference honors three times by landing a spot on the second team. This year, Doran hopes to replicate that success with the addition of eight newcomers, including a seven-player freshman class. Doran came to CC from Oglethorpe University where she served as an assistant coach for five years. Doran helped guide the Stormy Petrels to a school-record 27-7 mark and an appearance in the Division III Final Four during the 2007-08 season. Doran was also an integral part of the Oglethorpe athletics department. She served as Senior Woman Administrator, Staff Advisor to the Student Athlete Advisor Committee (SAAC) and Assistant Athletic Director for Administration. Doran graduated cum laude from Oglethorpe University and earned her master’s in Sports Administration from Georgia State. Liz and her husband, Jon, live in Colorado Springs.

season preview
The four seniors on the Colorado College women’s basketball team are out to accomplish two things this year. Danielle Davis, Melissa Lacer, Katie Waters and Katie Wirth plan to create a collective lasting legacy by leading the Tigers back to a competitive place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association. They also are charged with setting a positive example for a talented group of newcomers who will be the foundation of the program’s future. “The four seniors will create their legacy with what happens this year, and that will help catapult the program forward,” head coach Liz Doran said. “They’ve all had their senior moment where they said ‘wow, I could do something really special,’ and when looking back at this season, people could circle 2015-16 as a really pivotal year in the program’s history.” As individuals, all four have demonstrated skill and heart during their first three seasons. Davis led last year’s squad with 362 points and 160 rebounds, and was second with 47 assists. All three totals were personal single season highs and she now ranks 18th in program history with 885 points and 23rd with 433 rebounds. Wirth, who does a little bit of everything for the Tigers, was third with 43 assists and 23 steals, fourth with 117 rebounds and fifth with 128 points. She now ranks 20th with 150 career assists and 30th with 322 rebounds. Waters was fourth with 229 points and fifth with 96 rebounds, 30 assists and 22 steals last season. Lacer, meanwhile, overcame two years of injuries to return to the court last year and could prove to be a major asset this season. “The four seniors have really taken it upon themselves to demonstrate how close a class can be,” Doran said. “Those are four players who came in together and experienced some difficult times on the court, and they keep coming back.” Hopefully, this will be the year they are rewarded for their perseverance. If there is one reason CC’s seniors believe they can experience team success, it would be depth. A pair of junior forwards, Kalli Place and Korbyn Ukasick, have considerable experience from their first two seasons, while junior guard Christina Bowman may be the team’s most improved player. Francesca Cendali, who played in 24 games last year, is the only returning sophomore. Colorado College will nearly double its roster size with the addition of eight talented newcomers, one sophomore and eight freshmen, several of whom could contribute early in their careers. In the backcourt, the Tigers are adding Molly Gillis, Kaylyn Radtke,
Rianna Reimers, Payton Katich and Casey Torbet. The newest forwards are Nina Holley, Kate Loy and Jessica Savage. “I believe the newcomers will do some great things for us this year and in the future,” Doran said. “They are a talented group and we see flashes of brilliance in each of them. They have to learn how to apply their skills to a different team and make the adjustment to the college game.” In addition to having depth in games, a full roster will create a more competitive practice and environment. “We may have a starting five one game and it will be completely different for another,” Doran said. “I could see us get to seven or eight players who deserve to be starters and it all comes down to which five play best together and help us accomplish our objectives for a particular game.” Colorado College tips off the season at Johnson & Wales University on Nov. 16. Four days later, the Tigers open a five-game home stand against Alverno College and Benedictine University in the CC Tip-Off Classic at Reid Arena “The schedule sets up nicely with eight of the first 11 of home,” Doran said. “Being successful early will give a young team tremendous confidence.” Colorado College travels to UC Santa Cruz on Dec. 4-5 for their only true road trip before conference play begins at Centenary College in January. “The trip to Santa Cruz will be good experience with back-to-back games in a new environment,” Doran said. “It will give our new players the feel of our routine and how we prepare on the road.” A new wrinkle to this year’s schedule is a holiday tournament at home between a Dec. 9 game at Johnson & Wales University and the conference opener at Centenary College on Jan. 2. The team’s ultimate goal is a return trip to Shreveport for the conference tournament at the end of February. “There is talent and skill on this team, but our players must learn to play together,” Doran said. “We will be the sum of all parts, not just one person. “I believe we have what it takes to make the conference tournament if we commit to improving every single • The Colorado Colday.”

season preview
The University of Dallas women’s basketball team is prepared for the 2015-16 season which ought to provide an interesting dynamic with several new faces. Former Head Coach Jina Johansen departed following five seasons and helped the Lady Crusaders to a 14-12 overall record and 7-7 mark in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). Dallas would be the fifth-seeded team, as it hosted the SCAC Tournament at the Maher Center, where the team was 8-5 at. An opening round setback to the fourth-seeded Schreiner University concluded the campaign. Current head coach, Greta Grothe, was hired last spring as the 14th person to be at the helm for the Dallas women’s basketball program. Grothe comes from serving as an assistant coach at Rhodes College, members of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA). While with the Lynx, Grothe was part of the leadership that propelled the Lynx to consecutive SAA Tournament Championships and a combined 45-13 record. The current cast for the Lady Crusaders gives Grothe a chance to develop players to improve each day throughout practice and hopefully into the season. None of the 16 players on the active roster are seniors, but 10 will be returners from last year’s group. Dallas is without four-year letter winners Marleyna Bustamante and Brooke Hagemann. The duo each eclipsed the 1000-point mark near the end of last season and rank in the top 10 in the program for scoring at seventh and 10th, respectively. Bustamante led the team in steals and Hagemann was second in scoring and rebounding. Both also were All-Conference mentions. Coach Grothe will have a veteran back court as juniors Sammi Tso and Holly Tonry are back for their third-straight seasons. Tso started all 26 contests last season and was the team-leader in made three-points with 49. The point guard also dished out a team-high 70 assists. Tonry was out most of her sophomore season with nine games totaled before an injury. She still played 232 minutes and posted the following numbers: 77 points, 36 rebounds, 34 assists, and 22 steals. She had 109 assists her freshman year as she started 22 of 27 games. “Sammi Tso’s leadership and ability to create will be key for us being successful,” Coach Grothe explained. “Holly Tonry is 100%
healthy and ready to make an impact once the rust wears off from being hurt last year.” In the post, sophomores Michelle DeCoud and Seana Stoia will be looked to build upon the experience they gained last season. DeCoud was the team-leader in rebounds with 205 and a 7.9 average. The SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year averaged 10.8 points-per-game to rank third on the squad. Stoia made 25 starts in the 26 contests she appeared in. She broke the career record for the program by shooting 44.4 percent from the three-point line. “Seana Stoia will be a big presence for us in the paint this year, and I expect Michelle DeCoud to start where she left off last year and make an impact once she returns from Rome,” Coach Grothe said. Junior Lindsey Gendron and sophomore Helen Onyenso both will provide experience out of the returners, after getting a good amount of minutes of the floor in 2014-15. There are only three true freshmen in this bunch, which are Monica Stephens, Lisa Gifford, and Jackie Landry. Nicole Johnson, a former four-year letter winner standout for the Dallas women’s soccer program, will also play her first season as she continues her journey in Irving, Texas, as a graduate student. In order for the Lady Crusaders to be successful, Head Coach Grothe stated, “Three things we preach every day at practice: defense, rebounding, and limit turnovers, must all be executed. Our expectations for the year is to be competitive in every game to make the conference tournament.” Dallas will play 25 games this season and this includes 11 at the home confines of the Maher Center. The campaign begins on November 15 at Hendrix College. After three games on the road to • The Crusaders will be start the season, UD hosts Dallas under the leadership Christian College on December of first year Head 3 to begin a four-game home Coach Greta Grothe stand. • Returning this season from injury is junior Holly Tonry, the 2014 Newcomer of the Year, along with the 2015 honoree, Michelle DeCoud

TEMAINE wright Coach Wright will be entering his second season as head coach this fall. After the record-breaking success of his first team, he and his players will be challenged to equal or surpass that success in year two. Wright was named the new head coach for the Schreiner Women’s Basketball program last summer and his first team broke the Schreiner record for wins in a season by six games (NCAA-era), set the record for conference wins in a season by three games (needing 10 less games to do so) earn the program’s first postseason bid in the NCAA-era and winning their first round game in the tournament. For the three years prior to taking over, he served as SU’s assistant coach. During those three years, Wright has helped build a strong foundation for the Schreiner program. The Mountaineers have improved each year and have a solid core of returners coming back for this year. In each of his years in the program, SU has had one of the top defenses in the league. Prior to coming to Kerrville, Wright was the assistant men’s basketball coach for his alma mater, the University of Texas at Dallas. During his last season with the Comets, the team registered an overall record of 24-6 (.800). Prior to beginning his coachinig

career at UTD, he was a two-year starter at point guard (2007-09) for the Comets and led the team to the 2009 NCAA “Elite Eight” in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. During his playing career at UTD, Wright was a part of one of the most successful collegiate programs in Texas. During his junior season, Wright ranked sixth on the team in scoring (7.4 ppg) while leading UT-Dallas to a 17-9 record and the ASC Quarterfinals. In his senior year, Wright became the leading scorer (12.1 ppg) and second leading rebounder (5.3 rpg) while leading the team to a school record 26 wins overall and his play earned the MVP award for the 2009 American Southwest Conference Tournament while leading the team to the championship. He graduated in 2009 with a degree in History. He earned his Masters in Education from Schreiner in 2012. Prior to UTD, Wright starred at Clarendon College in Clarendon, TX for two years under head coach Tony Starnes. MEL dixon The 2015-16 season will be Mel Dixon’s fourth at the helm of the Texas Lutheran women’s basketball program. In just three seasons, he’s helped author an amazing turnaround, culminating in historic 2013-14 and 2015-15 campaigns that produced a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season crowns (2013-14 and 2014-15), a conference tournament championship (2013-14), and a trip to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament (2013-14). Last season, the 2014-15 campaign, Dixon led Texas Lutheran to a regular-season title and to the No. 2 seed in the SCAC Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs collected a 16-9 overall record with an 11-3 mark in the SCAC. TLU junior forward Taylor Dydalewicz garnerd the first All-American honor in TLU Women’s Basketball since the 1998-99 season. Dydalewicz was the SCAC Player of the Year after averaging 17.5 points and pulling down 4.9 rebounds per game. She added 1.2 steals per contest. In the last two seasons, TLU is 39-15 overall and 23-5 in the SCAC. In the 2013-14 season, Dixon guided his program to a school-record 23 wins and a 23-6 overall record, earning the SCAC Coach of the Year award. The season was capped with both the SCAC regular-season and tournament titles after the Bulldogs went 12-2 in conference play. A 54-52 win over Trinity in the 2013-15 SCAC Tournament final sent the Bulldogs to their first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament. Dixon helped lead a 15-win improvement in that second season with the Bulldogs.
Dixon has produced a 47-34 overall record in his two seasons at TLU, and a 29-15 mark in conference play (American Southwest Conference and SCAC records combined). Dixon guided TLU to an 8-17 overall record and a 6-12 mark in the American Southwest Conference in 2012-13. Mel Dixon was promoted to interim head coach for women’s basketball on July 2, 2012, following the resignation of Roxanne Long, who accepted the head women’s basketball coaching position at Rogers State. Dixon first joined the TLU Women’s Basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach in the 2010-11 season. Coach Dixon also had the additional title of recruiting coordinator for the program. Dixon had successful high school coaching stints in the San Antonio area at Robert E. Lee High School and at Theodore Roosevelt High School. 2015 season preview
Texas Lutheran Women’s Basketball returns to the hardwood for 2015-16 after a 2014-15 campaign that produced a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tri-regular-season championship and an SCAC tournament semifinal appearance. Last season, the Bulldogs and fourth-year Head Coach Mel Dixon went 16-9 overall and 11-3 in the conference to capture the No. 2 seed for the tournament a season ago. TLU fell in overtime in the SCAC semifinal to rival Trinity, the team TLU defeated in the SCAC Championship final in 2013-14. In just three seasons, Dixon has authored an amazing turnaround in TLU Women’s Basketball, culminating in historic 201314 and 2014-15 campaigns that produced a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season crowns (2013-14, 2014-15), a conference tournament championship (2013-14) and a trip to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament (2013-14). Last year, TLU junior forward Taylor Dydalewicz garnered the first All-American honor in TLU Women’s Basketball since the 1998-99 season. Dydalewicz was the SCAC Player of the Year after averaging 17.5 points and pulling down 4.9 rebounds per game. She added 1.2 steals per contest. In the last two seasons, TLU is 39-15 overall and 23-5 in the SCAC. Dydalewicz, now a senior, has been named a Preseason All-American by D3hoops.com. Dydalewicz was named to the Preseason All-America Fourth Team. Dydalewicz earned Honorable Mention All-America honors from DIII News last season. She also was named First Team AllSCAC and Second All-South Region (by D3hoops.com) last year. Last year, Dydalewicz set the Bulldogs’ Division-III single-game scoring mark with a 36-point performance in an early-season
road game against Mary Hardin-Baylor. Dydalewicz led the conference with 116 made free throws, while finishing fourth in free throw percentage (.795). She finished the year just one made free throw short of tying TLU’s single-season school record for free throws made in a season. Still looking for significant production from Dydalewicz, Dixon believes he has scoring options at all five positions. “This is the first year that I have been here that we have legitimate scorers at all five positions,” said Dixon. “We will be small, but they are athletic, going to play hard, and play good defense.” TLU lost All-Conference point guard Karisa Cantu and 6-foot4 center Chelsey Stolle, the team’s defensive standout in the middle. Cantu and Stolle each completed their four years of eligibility. Cantu averaged 12.5 points per game last season and dished out 108 assists. Stolle blocked 82 shots. In addition to Dydalewicz, the Bulldogs have capable scorers in junior Kristen Lye and Savannah Hight. Lye, a two-time All-SCAC Tournament selection, averaged 10.3 points and 7.4 rebounds in her sophomore campaign. Hight scored 9.5 points per night and pulled down 3.4 rebounds a contest. Hight also collected 51 steals, second on the team to Cantu’s 54. Dixon will rely on junior Bailey Champion as the starting point guard. Champion played in all 25 games a season ago and started in six. She averaged 3.5 points per game. Dixon is high on sophomore newcomer Adelaide Wenzel, a transfer from Texas A&M-Kingsville. Wenzel is a 5-8 guard that can play multiple positions.

2015 season preview
Fourth-year Trinity Head Women’s Basketball Coach Cameron Hill will have a veteran team to work with when the Tigers open their 2015-16 campaign November 14 at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. Twelve returnees from the 2014-15 season, with seven players who were featured in the starting lineup, will provide leadership for the 2015-16 edition of the Tigers. Included in the experienced group are five seniors. Trinity finished last season with a 22-6 overall record, and advanced to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship for the third straight time. “Retention of players has been a big advantage for us,” Coach Hill said. “Team chemistry is at the top of our list of strong points. The overall willingness to do what needs to be done to win games, and our preparation for the season has been good.” The Tigers clinched a share of the SCAC regular-season title, going 11-3 in conference play. Trinity defeated Austin College 63-56 in the first round of the SCAC Championship, held at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. Up next was a thrilling 91-78 overtime victory against Texas Lutheran University in the semifinals. Southwestern then beat the Tigers 71-58 to claim the conference title. Trinity entered the conference championship game on a four-game winning streak. Earlier in the season, the Tigers had won 11 games in a row. Senior forward/center Anecia Richardson was elected to the All-SCAC First Team for the third consecutive year. The 2013-14 SCAC Player of the Year led the Tigers in scoring with a 14.0 points-per-game average. She also was the top rebounder (5.6 rebounds per game), the leader in blocked shots (44 total), and field goal percentage (.552). Additionally, Richardson paced the team in field goals made (138) and free throws made (116). Richardson was also named to the SCAC All-Tournament Team. Bryony Harris, a senior forward who averaged 5.4 rebounds per matchup, and accounted for 32 steals, will add to a strong defensive unit. The seniors corps also includes guard Caitlin Barrett, who led the team in minutes and assists (81) last season. Barrett was elected to the All-SCAC Honorable Mention team. Guard Elizabeth Balido helped the Tigers in rebounding, despite dealing with injuries. Also returning is guard Natalie DeWitte. All will offer excellent leadership and court presence for the Tigers. Junior guard Monica Holguin was an All-SCAC Honorable Mention Team recipient. Holguin, who started nine games for the Tigers, shot over 35 percent in 3-point range, and shelled out 48 assists during the season. Joining Holguin as returning juniors are guards Grace Horn
and Ashley Alexander, and guard/forward Allison Staley. With one year experience on the floor, are three sophomores: guards, Rebecca Gordon, forward Mollie Hughes, and forward/ center Kate Irvin. “The fans will see a pretty exciting brand of basketball,” Coach Hill said. “Offensively, we have a lot of weapons. Defensively, we are pretty versatile. We can do whatever we need to do, per the opponent we are playing.” Trinity outscored opponents 64.5 to 53.6 points per game. The Tigers averaged 37.2 rebounds, while opponents had a slight advantage of 40.1 per matchup. Trinity shot over 39 percent from the field, and 30.9 percent beyond the arc. Three seniors from last season graduated, including All-SCAC honorees Hannah Coley and Lauren Splawn, along with Taylor Hollins. In the course of the season, Coley broke the Tigers record for most 3-pointers made in a career. But, Coley is not lost to the Tigers, as she is now a graduate assistant coach, while pursuing a master’s degree in accounting at Trinity. Joining the coaching staff on a full-time basis is Joe Shotland, a former Trinity men’s standout who earned his bachelor’s degree in 2014. He was a graduate assistant coach with the women’s program last year, while completing a master’s degree in teaching at Trinity. “We really have a high basketball IQ,” Coach Shotland said of the Tigers. “We have a lot of depth, and we are really versatile. There are players who can get up the floor and run, and that’s a huge advantage for us.” Joining the team are four newcomers: forward Kelsi Ballard, guards Rachel Chavez and Alex Duncan, and center Emily Reed. The first of 11 home games will take place November 16 against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The next night, Concordia (TX) University comes to campus. Trinity will compete in the Johns Hopkins (MD) tournament November 21-22. Included in the fall portion of the schedule are games at Houston Baptist University (December 2) and the University of the Incarnate Word (December 5). The first SCAC home game is slated for January 15, as Trinity hosts Texas Lutheran. The SCAC Championship is scheduled for February 26-28 at Shreveport, Louisiana, with Centenary College serving as the • Head Coach Camerhost. on Hill is in his fourth year with the Trinity Tigers
