Inside the tabernacle

STATIC STICKER BIBLE BOOKS

A curtain inside the tabernacle separated the ‘Holy Place’ from the ‘Most Holy Place’. Inside the ‘Most Holy Place’, was a golden shrine called the ark. The ark stored 2 stone tablets inscribed with the 10 commandments—laws that the Israelites were to keep at all times. Although the high priest was only allowed to enter the ‘Most Holy Place’ once a year, he was expected to enter the ‘Holy Place’ every day, as he had to burn incense on an altar and tend to a lamp stand. On top of this he was to put fresh bread out, known as the bread of Presence, on a table every week.

The birth of Moses

Soldiers had been ordered to find and kill all newborn Jewish boys. So when Moses’ mother couldn’t hide him any more, she floated him down the Nile in a waterproof basket. Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses whilst bathing in the river, and adopted the baby as her own. Moses’ sister - who was watching everything, cleverly suggested that her mother could nurse the baby.

Living in Egypt

The Israelites lived as foreigners in Egypt under the authority of Pharaoh. Although treating them very well at first, Pharaoh soon felt threatened by their increasing numbers - and so forced them to be his slaves.

God’s dwelling place

Whilst in the desert, God told Moses to make a tabernacle —a place He could be in the midst of his people. God gave Moses precise instructions on how to make the tabernacle, only the finest materials were to be used. On completion, a cloud came to cover the tent and the Glory of the Lord filled the place. From this time on, the Israelites only travelled when the cloud lifted from the tabernacle. Exodus 25:1-8, 40

Crossing the Red Sea

The Israelites fled from Egypt overnight. After walking for days they arrived on the shores of the Red Sea. Pharaoh, in the mean time, having regretted letting the people go, had sent out his entire army to get them back again. With no way forward, and no way back, the Israelites soon realised that they were trapped. God, however, told Moses to stretch out his staff in the direction of the sea. As soon as he had done this, the sea parted—creating a path across the sea bed. Exodus 14:5-20

Towards the promised land

The Israelites journeyed into the desert. God had promised them their own land in Canaan, but before they could enter this land, they had to learn to put all their faith and trust in Him. Showing the way, God travelled ahead of the Israelites - in a cloud by day, and a pillar of fire by night. God provided the Israelites with food, giving them a type of grain called ‘manna’ in the morning and quail in the evening. He also provided them with water—even making water gush out of a rock. Exodus 13:21-22, 16: 1-16,Numbers 20:11

Let my people go!

Aaron—along with his brother Moses, asked Pharaoh to let the Israelite people go. Pharaoh refused. In fact, it was not until he and his kingdom had experienced 10 horrible plagues, that he finally changed his mind and released his slaves. Exodus 5:1
